2020.11.19 11:26 TheGraveyardBoy2119 Lifted this from a subreddit that shall stay unlinked, it is basically a word to word copy of the post. All the technical resources needed for online manipulation, quite easy to use, made for beginners.

Warning: The post featured many slurs against RWgers, edited it. Pardon me for overlooking any.
Opposition Research and Information Gathering Tips
a non-comprehensive guide for social media stalking research and fact checking.
In this half-assed post i will share some different tips & tricks that you will find useful.
Note : basic knowledge of linux commands and python is required for following steps.

Twitter

Tip #1 How to Find out if a twitter account is #NishaJindal ?
Type this in twitter search bar, if you're lucky, you will find an opponent's account. (Terms & Conditions apply)
#NewProfilePic from:username
Reference :
Use this cheat-sheet for better search results
https://github.com/igorbrigaditwitter-advanced-search
Example :
https://twitter.com/0ffensiveG/status/1211961381706063872
Tip #2 Profile analysis :
This tool analyzes recent 1000 tweets to give you insights -
https://github.com/x0rz/tweets_analyzer (requires twitter api key)
pyhton3 tweets_analyzer -n username --no-retweets
Example :
Like i did on this guy..
python3 tweets_analyzer.py -n workingboxwala --no-retweets
https://np.reddit.com/librandu/comments/hyt58m/the_reality_of_you_woke_liberals/fzhtq9q/
https://imgur.com/xZ0z3nY
OR you can use https://tinfoleak.com/ but it requires your email and you can't filter out results unless you use it on your system.
Tip #3 Profile analysis (Psycho mode):
Step 1:
Get basic profile info using this website(account creation date) :
https://foller.me/
Example :
https://twitter.com/0ffensiveG/status/1265372499539144704
Step 2 :
Use InVid browser extension to get early tweets and replies..
InVid Tutorial :
https://techniblogic.com/how-to-use-invid-video-verification-tool/
Example :
https://twitter.com/0ffensiveG/status/1265373458327691264
Step 3 :
Get contact details :
Use twint for this -
twint -u username --email --phone
Twint tutorial :
https://null-byte.wonderhowto.com/how-to/mine-twitter-for-targeted-information-with-twint-0193853/
Step 4 :
Check if two accounts follow each other(without following them) :
Either you can use online services like Twiangulate and doesfollow but they require sign in via twitter. Or you can use this tool :
https://github.com/neox41/os4tw (requires twitter api keys)
./os4tw.py -f narendramodi amitshah rahulgandhi arvindkejriwal
you can also use this tool extract twitter locations :
./os4tw.py -p TarekFatah
Step 5 :
Save tweets offline :
For twitter scrapping, i use twint and twitter_intelligence, main difference between them is that twint is faster and feature rich but it's not accurate while scraping tweets, Twitter-AI is slower but more accurate and it scrapes every tweet.
twint :
twint -u username -o file.txt
saves all tweets from specific account in plaintext
twint -s "query from:username" -o file.csv --csv / file.json --json
saves tweets containing the word "query" from specific account in csv or json format
twint -u narendramodi --following --user-full -o file.db
saves account name and bio of all degenerate twitter accounts followed by Modi in a SQLite database, alternatively you can save it in csv format and import it in excel file.
interactions between twitter accounts
twint -s "username1 username2 username3 username4 username5 from:username0" -o file.csv --csv
Like Pratik Sinha did here - https://twitter.com/free_thinkestatus/1264861066976047105
Sometime twitter IP bans twint(don't worry it's a 15-20 minute ban) because of it's fast paced nature, then you have to add an additional arguments "--resume file.csv --wait-random 120" at the end of command.
twitter-intelligence :
python3 tracking.py --query "coolfunnytshirt from:workingboxwala" > AttentionSeekingDoneRight.txt
you can change and use custom queries using twitter cheat-sheet.
You can also use TweetBeaver but it can only retrieve 3200 recent tweets and you can't filter anything out.
Step 6 :
Securing Evidence :
Archive tweets(or any other web page) :
Goto https://archive.org/web/ , on the bottom right corner(on the bottom section, if you're on mobile) there is a textbox with "Save Page Now" title, paste your link there and archive your shit.
Screenshots :
Use https://screenshot.guru/ to take high quality screenshot of any tweet / web page. Or use browser extension(Nimbus/Firefox's screenshot tool) or any other default tool(Snipping Tool on windows 10, default screenshot feature on android).
Tip #4 Twitter trend analysis(requires high end PC/laptop) :
Use Twitwork to analysis and generate graph based on a specific twitter trends(can be use to determine IT cell's mastermind accounts, i have used it on Sudarshan TV's trend and got some interesting results.)
https://github.com/atmoneTwitWork
Launch it on linux :
./TwitWork --no-sandbox
on other systems, double click on executable file. When application is launched click on top-left hamburger menu icon(☰), add twitter api keys, and you are ready to go. Just paste the twitter trend and wait.
Stop it if your system overheats.

Reddit

Tip #1 Download all images/videos/media from a subreddit/twitter account/ and many more websites :
Use ripme for this (requires JRE).
https://github.com/RipMeApp/ripme
java -jar ripme.jar
When application is launched, just paste the link and download.
(Don't forget to sort subreddit by top, controversial, etc, before copying the link.)
Tip #2 Individual account analysis (without reddit api):
Useful to find out lurking ch0des..
Tool 1 :
https://github.com/sshell/reddit-analyzer
python3 reddit-analyzer.py username
Tool 2 :
https://github.com/Rafficereddit-analyzer
python3 analyzer.py -n username -t 0
Online services :
https://reddit-user-analyser.netlify.app/
https://redditmetis.com/
https://www.redditinvestigator.com/
https://www.redective.com/
Tip #3 Reddit Downvoter :
Mass downvote all comments and posts in one click. (only works on old and np links)
One more thing, you don't need to be subscribed to that particular subreddit to downvote.. (Me downboating Chodi since ages.. 😉)
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/reddit-downvoteoaaobdcikfoafpadmjngnamnoecmpppg?hl=en

Facebook

Tip #\1 How to get facebook post's shareable link:
If you are browsing someone's timeline or facebook page and want to share a specific post then just right click on the post's date/time and open it in new tab/copy link.
https://help.taxesforexpats.com/article/1110-how-to-get-10-for-a-post-on-facebook
https://www.thesocialmediahat.com/blog/how-to-link-to-a-facebook-post/
Tip #2 Lookup facebook id and more :
https://lookup-id.com/
Using python script :
https://github.com/thisislola/facebook_ID_finder
python2.7 fbid_finder.py https://www.facebook.com/username
Tip #3 Scrapping Facebook data :
Use reaper a PyQt5 GUI for socialreaper tool :
https://github.com/ScriptSmith/reaper
https://reaper.social/platforms/facebook.html
Tbh, i have only used this tool on twitter and it works as expected, can't say about other platforms.

Instagram

Download all images from instagram/facebook :
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/downalbum/cgjnhhjpfcdhbhlcmmjppicjmgfkppok?hl=en

Youtube

Download all videos from youtube channel or playlist :
Get executable from here https://youtube-dl.org/ (Fuck RIAA!)
Create a new folder, open terminal and cd to that folder.
Copy paste the following command and replace url with youtube channel link.
youtube-dl -f best -ciw -o "%(autonumber)s-%(title)s.%(ext)s" -v url-of-channel --playlist-reverse
^ This saves all videos from a youtube channel in reverse order(oldest to newest video) while automatically numbering them with 0001-video_title, 0002-video_title, etc.
If the youtube channel uploads new video, then repeat the command, it will download the latest video without overwriting previously downloaded videos. Useful for downloading lectures, tutorials, etc..
For playlists remove the last part :
youtube-dl -f best -ciw -o "%(autonumber)s-%(title)s.%(ext)s" -v
To download a single video you can use :
youtube-dl -f best -v video_link
(use only -f for manual video quality selection)
google youtube-dl tutorials for more use cases.

Some personal Linux tips

Download files in full speed(Linux iso, movies, others) :
aria2c -s 32 -x 16 url
Fix file and folder permissions (useful for files copied from windows partition) :
Files :
find /home/usefolder -type f -exec chmod 0664 {} \;
Directories :
find /home/usefolder -type d -exec chmod 0775 {} \;
Sync time without ntp :
Note replace google.in with your countries's google link.
sudo date +"%d %b %Y %T %Z" -s "$(wget -qSO- --max-redirect=0 http://google.in 2>&1 grep '^ Date:' cut -d' ' -f 5-)"
OR
sudo date -s "$(wget -qSO- --max-redirect=0 google.in 2>&1 grep Date: cut -d' ' -f 5-8)"
Now set synchronized time to your hardware's clock :
sudo hwclock -w
sudo hwclock -r
Mirror whole website for offline use :
wget -mkEpnp http://example.org
Download gdrive files from terminal :
https://github.com/wkentaro/gdown
gdown gdrive_file_link

2020.11.13 13:26 b00nish Why listen to your IT person if you just can do the exact opposite of what he says?

Not too long ago one of our customers decided that they need to update their age old business software to a new version. Since they have their own "specialized" company that advises them when it comes to that software this meant that I had to do some co-op work.
This story involves the following persons:
Me = responsible for managing the IT infrastructure of the customer
Boss = the boss of the company that is our customer
Genius 1 = the dude from the specialized business software company who is responsible for our customer
Genius 2 = the dude from the specialized business software company who isn't actually responsible for the case but is consulting Genius 1 since they both know that Genius 1 is absolutely clueless (spoiler: what they don't know is that Genius 2 is quite clueless as well)
So a few days before the date that was arranged for the update, Genius 2 calls me, asking me if the customer's server had a CD drive.
I tell him that it hasn't.
He responds "Well but how can we install the update then? We'll have to update several versions and some of them are only available on CD!"
Me: "Just copy the content of each CD into a folder on the network share. Or upload it in the web and download it. Or do an ISO of the CDs so that we can mount it. More or less everything would work..."
He: "Ah, ok, yeah. I'll explain it to Genius 1."
15 minutes later I receive a mail: "Here's Genius 2 again. Do you happen to know if the customer might have an external CD drive that we could use?"
My reply: "I think they have. You could use it from one of their workstations to upload the content of the CD to the network drive if you like. But don't hook it directly to the server. It won't work. That's virtual machines."
His reply: "Ok, please make sure that they have an external CD drive and confirm it to me."
So I call the customer (Boss), let them confirm that they have an external CD drive and tell them that it could be used to copy the contents of the CDs via a workstation to the network drive if - for whatever reason - Genius 1 or 2 can't provide the data as a download themselves. I also told the customer that he shouldn't hook the CD drive to the server because it won't work.
Two days later the "Boss" calls me: "Hey, I just plugged the external CD drive to the server but it doesn't show up!" [he means: it doesn't show up in the virtual server]
Me: "Mmmmmh... okay? But why did you do that? Didn't I tell you two days ago not to hook the drive to the server?"
Boss: "Well, Genius 1 told me to do it."
So I explained to the boss - again - that it doesn't work and what he should do instead. He agreed to do so this time.
The next day Genius 1 called me to confirm some information that he needs to access the server that I gave him long ago. I used the opportunity to ask him why he tells the boss to do things of which I explained before why they shouldn't be done:
Me: "Didn't Genius 2 explain to you why hooking up the CD drive to the server won't work and is unnecessary anyway? I told him what you could do instead."
Genius 1: "Yeah but you don't understand... those updates for the older versions... they are only available on CD! We can't download them from the vendors website!"
Me: "I understand this very well, that's why I explained to you guys how you can get that data from the CD to the server!"
Genius 1: "Yes I understand that the server has no CD drive... that's why we asked if there is an external CD drive available!"
Me: "... well ... anyway ... the Boss has copied the data from each CD into a folder on the network share for you in the meantime. If you access the server you'll find it at location xy"
Genius 1: "In a folder? But how can I open the CD from a folder?"
More and more doubting if I'm awake I then did a remote session together with Genius 1 to show him, how he can double click an EXE file inside a folder in order to launch the installer... he finally seemed to understand and I started to ask myself if it's a responsible thing to do if we let guys like him accessing the server.

Epilogue:
A few days later I had to do a short visit on the customers site because of an unrelated project. When I quickly checked on the server I found an external HDD with a sticker "NEVER PULL THE PLUG!" lying next to the server. Not plugged in.
The purpose of this HDD is to receive daily image backups of the server. Now the fact that it has been unplugged isn't dramatic because obviously we also have other backups in place (NAS & Cloud) but I still found it mildly irritating that this HDD lay there unplugged when it even had a sticker on it saying that it shouldn't be unplugged.
So I asked the Boss if he had an explanation for this. Well, you'll guess it:
"Uh, yeah, you remember when we had to plug in the external CD drive to the server a few days ago? Well, we didn't find an unused USB port, so we had to pull the plug from that HDD..."
Aaaaaargh!

2020.11.10 16:20 backtickbot https://reddit.com/r/rust/comments/jrm4xq/program_ideas/gbu1a3a/

What does "the major features" mean? Does it mean the program should use a substantial amount of the language? Or that it should exploit unique advantages of the language?
I can suggest one small program, because it's something i actually want, and am considering writing myself.
I have a bunch of (mostly Java, sorry) programs which write logs to their standard output that look like this:
2020-11-10T11:01:02.426+0000 OneshotMain INFO application starting in /site/initech/foo/71d8e5bd20d2e5f60af8b52ec6797999ae68292b/foo/lib/foo.jar 2020-11-10T11:01:02.429+0000 OneshotMain INFO today is not a holiday
So, timestamp in ISO format (with a zone offset), then some other stuff.
At the moment, when these apps get started, our standard startup script redirects this output into a log file with a name based on the current timestamp (eg /logs/2020-11-10T11:01:02.426+0000.log). They will keep writing to that file until they get restarted.
That means that if an app is running for several days, it is writing into a log file with a timestamp several days in the past! This makes it a bit of a pain to find the right logfile. I don't mind it too much, but one of my colleagues finds it really annoying.
What we want to do is to roll the logfile at local midnight every day. So, if an app runs for several days, it will write events into multiple files, each one dated for that day. I want every log line to go into the file matching its timestamp - even if an event is logged a millisecond before or after midnight, it should go into the right file.
I don't want to modify the apps to do this! I want to modify the standard start script to handle the stream such that it goes into a new file every day. That means piping the output into a small utility which looks at each line, determines the timestamp, and writes it to the right file.
For extra fun, not every line starts with a timestamp. For example, some random third-party component will write odd stuff to standard output. And when an exception gets logged, there is a first line with a timestamp, then many following lines of stacktrace which look like:
 at java.net.NetworkInterface.getAll([email protected]/Native Method) at java.net.NetworkInterface.getNetworkInterfaces([email protected]/NetworkInterface.java:347)
Lines like this should be treated as having a timestamp on the same day as the previous timestamped line.
For further fun, some apps write this format, but with a UTC timestamp (2020-11-10T11:01:02.426Z rather than 2020-11-10T11:01:02.426+0000). Whatever the format or offset, logs should roll at midnight in the log timezone. I'm not entirely sure what should happen when the clocks go forward or back.
I would use Rust for this program because it should use a tiny amount of CPU and memory, and have no trouble keeping up with a large volume of logging.
This program should be pretty simple. You could probably do it with a main method with under 100 lines. It won't involve threads, smart pointers, iterators, etc. So it might be too simple!

2020.11.07 16:01 TheDudeFromSomeW Passed CCSP 1st attempt without doing CISSP - Nov 2020

I started to have a look at the CCSP in March 2020 but only got has far as reading a couple of chapters from one of the study books, then I got side tracked with something else. I picked up study again in late July and booked my exam for October.
I have not done CISSP yet, so don't let that deter you however it's good to have some cloud experience and some prior cloud certs (AWS SAA for example).
I had the exam booked for a Friday, then the weekend before the government released a plan to go in to lock down from the following Thursday. I was concerned that the Test centres would then be closed for the lockdown which would have been for at least and month but possibly last until Christmas. So long story short, I rebooked for the following day (Monday), short notice but I did feel ready for the exam due to my prep work. It did actually turn out that the centres were not closed but I am glad I rebooked as the different test centre I used was the best experience I have had with a test centre to date.
These are the following materials that I used for prep:
With the questions I had on the exam, I can definitely say that none of the available test banks that I saw came close to replicating the style that the questions were delivered in. This may be something to do with ISC not allowing any remote exams to be done and all of which have to be done in a Test centre.
So then, what do you need to know for the exam? Well you are definitely not going to be able to pass if you memorise test banks that is for sure. Even if you know all of the content from all of the sources I mentioned above, if you don't get in the right mind set and really read the question to understand what the question is asking, you will likely get the question wrong. I have heard that this is also similar to the other ISC(2) certs although I have not done any others so could not say myself.
Points that may be useful, please note that these are specific to the exam I took. The pool of questions for the CCSP I have been told is huge so your experience could be different!!
I have to say though, that the following is the best post by far on what you should and should not do for the exam prep for the CCSP, the author is also the author of the 'ccsp.alukos.com' site.
https://www.reddit.com/CCSP/comments/hyyaoh/passed_7272020/
Let me know if you have any questions, hope this has helped.

2020.11.05 10:09 AMV Updated MSF Infographics, November 2020, V4.5.0

Hi everyone,
As always, please let me know if you want to see anything more, have questions or constructive feedback from these graphics. I won't waste my time if it's not a constructive conversation, so keep it civil please.
After last months overhauls, there haven't been dramatic changes this month. The tier list still needs refining, as does the new speed graphic. The challenges and events graphic will be revised next month, after hopefully more toons are made reasonably farmable, as the graphic is based of the ease of building the respective team.
These guides are updated to the paywall release of Stature - November 5, 2020. They also pre-empt the arrival of Yellowjacket and Ghost.
If in doubt with rosters because of the new toons, refer to August's graphics, the graphics from September, or the graphics from October.
If you get resolution issues and are on mobile, use the Imgur app - or open on PC. For some reason, viewing the Imgur link just as a webpage on mobile doesn't allow for high-quality viewing. Otherwise, here is a link to the MSF Infographics Discord server for all of them, along with other content creators.
So..technically able to use Dr Doom to unlock Phoenix after he arrives.
I mean, I doubt you'd be able to get him without her, but the principle of adding him was just too funny to omit.
So it still needs fine tuning, I'm not happy with it, but it conveys the range between each tier better. Added all the new toons, a couple of position reshuffles.
Updated for the new characters, Doom War 2, Greek orb updates and general business.
This includes the changes for later this month, if unsure for current squads (e.g. Sin 6) refer to August/September graphics which are still 95% accurate.
Haven't added the Pym Tech team into this, as I doubt they are going to replace any current teams on attack. I would likely be looking for them on more of a defensive side, if only because of the amount of dodging and evades may cause a time-out. So they'll get added next month.
Same as always, until we can upgrade rooms.
Held off from updating this at all this month - the lack of new characters being in a reasonable farming location means the current teams, while not the best, are still able to complete the higher levels, while still being mostly obtainable.
Base guide, but like last month, your roster will determine what you can make work and what is best. Updated a couple of teams, added Symbiotes, correct farmability portraits.
This will still slowly change as ISO-8 and the game evolve, but it's relatively confident and stable now. Again, thanks to the PoH alliances, Remanx & Co., MSF.gg and the Ragnarok alliances for helping provide information to make this. They deserve all the credit for this. Still looking to eventually add the ISO-8 information to the War Team and Arena/Raid graphics, tailored for those modes.
NEW
This month's new graphic (been adding one each month so far) is an updated base speed list. Now, all this information is available on MSF.gg (shoutout to their amazing site) - however some people get a benefit from seeing this visually rather than flat numbers.
I do need to fix where the portraits are and put them in alphabetical order to they are easier to find. But we have heroes on the left, villains on the right.
At the bottom are the characters with speed manipulation in their kits - for example Black Pathers' speed up on kill, or Hawkeye's reduce speed meter attack.
This is not 100% definative, because there are many modifiers that can add/subtract from speeds in the game, but it is their base speeds at least.
Again, if you have any constructive feedback, suggestions, or requests, I'd love to hear them below!
Thanks guys, and 'Good Luck, Commanders!'

2020.11.01 21:16 lastminuteleapdayboy A few questions about the Pulse 15

Hello, I want to buy a new laptop soon and the Pulse 15 is one I'm interested in. The main selling points for me are the metal chassis, 100% sRGB and 4800H, three things hard to find together for an "affordable" price in laptops. I'm not buying it for Linux support, I want to buy it as Windows only machine initially and perhaps dual boot Linux later when needed.
Is it possible to get a WIN super-key ISO keyboard? In the configurator the only option with a WIN super-key is DE-DE. But slightly above the dropdown, there's a link that goes to a page which states that keyboards can be laser etched with custom designs (although I can't seem to find this option in the dropdown).
Is it possible to pay after delivery? I'm from the Netherlands and some webshops here offer the payment options such as Klarna, which basically means that you have to pay within a few days after receiving the product instead of paying upfront. I d'rather pay via a service like this, because €1000+ is a lot of money to pay upfront.
What's up with the 4800H shortages? I've seen the reddit post on the XMG subreddit about this, but the percentages confuse me a bit. Even more confusing is that now your site says the 4800H is in stock, while a few days ago it said it would be back in stock 31 december 2020 (I presume this was a placeholder date). If I would order the Pulse 15 right now, would this mean that it would arrive in about 2 weeks?
Warranty Does opening the laptop and changing the SSD and/or RAM after purchase void warranty? Or am I free to upgrade these later without worrying about that?
Windows driver support Since this laptop is primarily meant for Linux, how good is Windows driver support? Are there things I can only do in Linux or is everything (driver related) possible on both OSses? Basically; would you recommend buying this laptop if I'm only going to be using it for Windows (initially)?
What's the relation between Tuxedo, XMG, Schenker and bestware? Are these all the same company? Looking at the XMG subreddit, the post about the 4800H shortages is both about Tuxedo, XMG and Schenker.
Thank you!

2020.11.01 06:46 0ffensive Opposition Research and Information Gathering Tips

a non-comprehensive guide for social media stalking research and fact checking.
In this half-assed post i will share some different tips & tricks that you will find useful.

Note : basic knowledge of linux commands and python is required for following steps.

Twitter

Tip #1 How to Find out if a twitter account is #NishaJindal ?
Type this in twitter search bar, if you're lucky, you will find some ugly sanghi's face. (Terms & Conditions apply)
#NewProfilePic from:username

Reference :
Use this cheat-sheet for better search results
https://github.com/igorbrigaditwitter-advanced-search
Example :
I was lucky & naive & stupid back then..
https://twitter.com/0ffensiveG/status/1211961381706063872

Tip #2 Profile analysis :
This tool analyzes recent 1000 tweets to give you insights -
https://github.com/x0rz/tweets_analyzer (requires twitter api key)
pyhton3 tweets_analyzer -n username --no-retweets
Example :
Like i did on this guy..
python3 tweets_analyzer.py -n workingboxwala --no-retweets
https://np.reddit.com/librandu/comments/hyt58m/the_reality_of_you_woke_liberals/fzhtq9q/
https://imgur.com/xZ0z3nY
OR you can use https://tinfoleak.com/ but it requires your email and you can't filter out results unless you use it on your system.

Tip #3 Profile analysis (Psycho mode):
Step 1:
Get basic profile info using this website(account creation date) :
https://foller.me/
Example :
https://twitter.com/0ffensiveG/status/1265372499539144704

Step 2 :
Use InVid browser extension to get early tweets and replies..
InVid Tutorial :
https://techniblogic.com/how-to-use-invid-video-verification-tool/
Example :
https://twitter.com/0ffensiveG/status/1265373458327691264

Step 3 :
Get contact details :
Use twint for this -
twint -u username --email --phone
Twint tutorial :
https://null-byte.wonderhowto.com/how-to/mine-twitter-for-targeted-information-with-twint-0193853/

Step 4 :
Check if two accounts follow each other(without following them) :
Either you can use online services like Twiangulate and doesfollow but they require sign in via twitter. Or you can use this tool :
https://github.com/neox41/os4tw (requires twitter api keys)
./os4tw.py -f narendramodi amitshah rahulgandhi arvindkejriwal
Output : Harami Kejriwal!!!
you can also use this tool extract twitter locations :
./os4tw.py -p TarekFatah
Output : Harami Canadawasi!!!

Step 5 :
Save tweets offline :
For twitter scrapping, i use twint and twitter_intelligence, main difference between them is that twint is faster and feature rich but it's not accurate while scraping tweets, twitter-intelligence is slower but more accurate and it scrapes every tweet.

twint :
twint -u username -o file.txt
saves all tweets from specific account in plaintext
twint -s "query from:username" -o file.csv --csv / file.json --json
saves tweets containing the word "query" from specific account in csv or json format
twint -u narendramodi --following --user-full -o file.db
saves account name and bio of all degenerate twitter accounts followed by mudi kaka in a SQLite database, alternatively you can save it in csv format and import it in excel file.
interactions between twitter accounts
twint -s "username1 username2 username3 username4 username5 from:username0" -o file.csv --csv

(Don't forget to sort subreddit by top, contorversial, etc, before copying the link.)

Tip #2 Individual account analysis (without reddit api):
Useful to find out lurking ch0des..
Tool 1 :
https://github.com/sshell/reddit-analyzer
python3 reddit-analyzer.py username

Tool 2 :
https://github.com/Rafficereddit-analyzer
python3 analyzer.py -n username -t 0

Online services :
https://reddit-user-analyser.netlify.app/
https://redditmetis.com/
https://www.redditinvestigator.com/
https://www.redective.com/

Tip #3 Reddit Downvoter :

Tbh, i have only used this tool on twitter and it works as expected, can't say about other platforms.

Instagram

Download all images from instagram/facebook :

Files :
find /home/usefolder -type f -exec chmod 0664 {} \;
Directories :
find /home/usefolder -type d -exec chmod 0775 {} \;

Sync time without ntp :
Note replace google.in with your countries's google link.
sudo date +"%d %b %Y %T %Z" -s "$(wget -qSO- --max-redirect=0 http://google.in 2>&1 grep '^ Date:' cut -d' ' -f 5-)"
OR
sudo date -s "$(wget -qSO- --max-redirect=0 google.in 2>&1 grep Date: cut -d' ' -f 5-8)"

Now set synchronized time to your hardware's clock :
sudo hwclock -w
sudo hwclock -r

Mirror whole website for offline use :
wget -mkEpnp http://example.org

Download gdrive files from terminal :
https://github.com/wkentaro/gdown
gdown gdrive_file_link

2020.10.30 10:56 Fuck_the_RIAA How to anonymously host the continued development of youtube-dl offshore

Original sources of this guide (might be more up to date in case you're viewing a mirror of it):
https://old.reddit.com/youtubedl/comments/jktx5b/how_to_anonymously_host_the_continued_development/
https://raddle.me/f/AntiCopyright/121477/how-to-anonymously-host-the-continued-development-of-youtube
In this guide I will go through how to anonymously host the continued development of youtube-dl offshore using companies that have a track record of being very resilient to DMCA takedowns. As a general disclaimer, youtube-dl is not illegal, no matter how much the RIAA wants it to be. Hosting it is not illegal, but the RIAA doesn't care about what's legal, so we'll have to act accordingly and not rely on companies that will bend over backwards for them. This post is basically my way of flipping the bird to the RIAA.

Former bulletproof hosting reseller on what the most warez friendly hosting providers are
(Novogara aka Ecatel recently got busted for tax evasion and are shady as hell in general, allowing anything to be hosted on their servers, so its best to stay away from them.)
Take into account what data center the hosting provider uses. If they don't run their their own data center the company running the data center can shut down the server if the data center isn't DMCA ignored. That isn't to say that resellers can't be resilient, but it depends on how resilient the data center they use is.
Some countries like Ukraine, Kazakhstan, and Korea force hosting providers to use government SSL certificates, meaning that they can MITM the connection.
If anyone here is serious about hosting the continuation of the youtube-dl project, PM me (F_the_RIAA_2 on Reddit, FuckTheRIAA on Raddle) and I'll give you a more specific recommendation. Keeping the hosting provider secret makes it a lot harder to take down.
CDNs and proxies to hide the real hosting provider
DDoS-Guard - Highly recommended. Based in Russia. Doesn't care about DMCA at all. Currently provides protection for Nyaa (the world's largest public torrent tracker for anime and manga) and Sci-Hub (the world's largest piracy website for academic papers which is under constant legal pressure from big US publishers). Has a free plan and accepts Bitcoin for paid plans. DDoS-Guard might be inaccessible outside of Europe for a few hours/month, meaning that sites using it would be unreachable outside of Europe during that time. This is probably peering related, but I'm not sure. Just tell site visitors to use ProtonVPN's free plan and connect to one of their VPN servers in the Netherlands if that happens.
While I recommend DDoS-Guard, I'll list some other alternatives in case something happens:
CloudFlare - Might be a honeypot, especially since I'm not sure how they'd be able to get away with this otherwise, but CloudFlare works for now. Just don't expect privacy from them. They're a US based company so they'll probably be reigned in eventually, but for now they're having their Wild West days. CloudFlare has a free plan. If CloudFlare is not configured properly when set up the real hosting provider will be leaked. More info about that here: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7
It's a myth that Cloudflare does not forward DMCA complaints, they forward everything. However, Cloudflare does not store any "sensitive data", which means forwarding "useless" information is similar like ignoring the DMCA request. A general advice is that whenever you use Cloudflare you should use a bulletproof backend server as well to avoid DMCA takedown request in the first place, so less or nothing gets forwarded (less "leakage risk").

OVPN's public IPv4 proxy (the Switzerland proxy) - Swedish company that provided a proxy for The Pirate Bay for a while, went to court because of it, and won. The two advantages with their Switzerland proxy in particular is that it's hosted by Interxion - the same Netherlands based company that is hosting Feral Hosting's DMCA ignored seedboxes - and that Switzerland is a pretty good jurisdiction. OVPN also scores well on That One Privacy Site. Accepts Bitcoin.
Before we go into registering a domain, I think it's worth considering if it's really worth keeping the name youtube-dl or if it could be spun off into a more accurate and less trademark infringing name like media-dl, for example. It downloads video and audio from a lot more sites than just YouTube, after all.
Resilient TLDs (there are more options than just these)
.is - As of a few years ago ISNIC had only ever suspended one domain and it was connected to ISIS.
When we asked whether ISNIC would follow Greenland’s lead and move for a proactive suspension, we got a clear answer.
“The short answer is no. Such an action would require a formal order from an Icelandic court. ISNIC is not responsible for a registrant’s usage of their domains,” ISNIC’s Marius Olafsson told TorrentFreak.
“This policy applies equally to any .is domain,” Olafsson says, adding that it’s the domain owner’s responsibility to abide by the law, not theirs.
Source: https://torrentfreak.com/pirate-bay-finds-safe-haven-in-iceland-switches-to-is-domain-130425/
“Domains can hardly be considered illegal any more than a street address. A street address is not illegal even if there is illegal activity in one apartment at the address,” ISNIC says.
Source: https://torrentfreak.com/torrent-domain-suspensions-damage-credibility-registrar-says-140617/
.to - Used by a lot of torrent and other filesharing websites. I have never seen one get suspended.
.ru / .su - Good for anything that doesn't affect Russia or go against Russian interests.
.cr is a resilient TLD according to the International Intellectual Property Alliance's (IIAP) report:
thepiratebay.cr domain is still online despite actions against it from the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) and the U.S. Embassy in Costa Rica. Other notorious infringing sites are following the trend of using .cr domains as a safe haven (e.g., kickasstorrents.cr). Costa Rica’s failure to deal effectively with its obligations regarding online infringement, more than eight years after they came into force under DR-CAFTA, is a serious concern.
In case you want cheaper options that are available on Njalla, .ch and .ws are said to be pretty good.
.ec is also looking pretty solid as Library Genesis (the world's largest book piracy website, which is under constant legal pressure from big US publishers) have been using it for some time without getting suspended.
Vulnerable TLDs
.com, .net, .cc, .tv, and .name are operated by VeriSign, a Washington DC based company that is controlled by the US government.
.org, .info, .asia, .aero, .ag, .bz, .gi, .hgn, .in, .lc, .me, .mobi, .mn, .sc and .vc are operated by Afilias, a company that blocked one of WikiLeaks' domains.
.site, .website, .tech, .online, .uno, .fun, .space, .store, and .press are operated by Radix, a company that has an anti-piracy partnership with the MPAA.
All TLDs operated by Donuts, a company that has an anti-piracy partnership with the MPAA.
Resilient domain registrars/resellers
Recommended:
Njalla - As anonymous as you can get when buying a domain. Njalla is a Nevis registered company that buys the more common domains from Canada based Tucows, which is pretty abuse friendly and some TLDs like .is they buy from the registry directly. They then lease it to you while legally speaking they own the domain. This means that you don't have to give them any personal information to register it and they take Monero. Njalla has a Tor Hidden Service, PGP key, and has support for registration via XMPP with OTR. Njalla is run by one of the Pirate Bay founders and they kept the Pirate Bay sense of humor alive when dealing with DMCA.
Other:
NiceVPS - As anonymous as you can get when buying a domain. NiceVPS is a domain reseller based in the Dominican Republic that buys the domain from easyDNS and then leases it to you, meaning that you don't have to provide any personal information since they own the domain on paper. Accepts Monero. Has a Tor Hidden Service, PGP key, and warrant canary. I've seen NiceVPS recommended on some websites, but I'm not sure how solid it is. Doesn't seem to offer all of the TLDs that Njalla, Openprovider, and easyDNS offer, including a lot of the more resilient ones.
Openprovider aka Hosting Concepts B.V. - Netherlands based registrar that is one of the most abused registrars by rogue pharma sites. Doesn't suspend domains without a WIPO decision or court order. Has a full section dedicated to it in the United States Trade Representative's 2019 report and a brief mention in the 2020 report.
easyDNS - Canada based registrar that has a big focus on due process. The current registrar of The Pirate Bay's .org domain, which it defended against the RIAA. Wouldn't suspend a domain for a video downloader like youtube-dl unless ordered by ICANN, CIRA, or a court according to their takedown policy. Accepts Bitcoin.
There are a few resellers of bulletproof Russian and Chinese registrars that accept cryptocurrency, but because those are pretty much only used by cyber criminals they would not be a good look for this project. And there's also the risk that they'll just be gone one day without a word and no way to transfer domain and not much recourse. Because of those reasons I'm omitting them from this list. I think the above mentioned registrars and resellers will be good enough, the project is legal after all.
Worth considering:
In order to anonymously directly register a domain at any of the other mentioned services than Njalla and NiceVPS you'd have to fake the WHOIS information, which violates ICANN's rules and registrars usually suspend domains because of that. I could especially imagine easyDNS doing this. Not sure how the other registrars would react to that, but ICANN does have the power to withdraw their accreditation - meaning that the registrars would lose the ability to issue domains - if they don't follow ICANN's rules. In the cases of Njalla and NiceVPS they aren't a registrar, they just fill in their own details and buy the domain for you from a registry/registrar when you register a domain using them.
If you use Njalla or NiceVPS you're handing over control of the domain to somebody else and have to take their word for it that you'll always have access to the domain. It's easier to trust Njalla than NiceVPS in this case since it's known who owns Njalla and they have more of a track record than NiceVPS, which is fairly unknown.
TLS/SSL
Let's Encrypt - Free, uses open source software, backed by EFF, Mozilla, and others. Easy to set up and easy to maintain with an auto-renewal script.
If you're using CloudFlare, you'll have to use their phony SSL certificate.
Keeping your server secure and other technical advice
Check your server, and how reliable it is in terms of security and privacy, online services like https://centminmod.com can test your server and it's configuration to ensure nothing is "leaking".
Check if someone can see your hidden backend server IP via https://dnsdumpster.com. In general you should block every IP connection to your backend server, only allow your own connection, VPN's or reverse proxies. You quickly can check if someone has an "open" backend IP service via services like https://censys.io.
Source: CHEF-KOCH / Warez / Bulletproof Hosting.md
If you use CloudFlare, also check that your backend isn't leaking using CrimeFlare.
If you have set up email with your domain, use SMPT and a custom mail server so it doesn't leak your origin server IP. Email is the easiest way to leak origin server IP addresses.
Use SSH instead of VNC. With VNC the login information is sent unencrypted via plaintext, meaning that a rogue exit node in the Tor network and any server the login information is sent over on the clearnet could record your login information if they wanted to.
Use a password generator for all accounts and have it set to the max number of characters. Don't put the login information into a proprietary password manager or an online password manager. Make sure to back up the login information to multiple hard drives/SSDs/USBs/etc.
Try and make the site portable so that all software and all configurations can be saved to an ISO that can be spun up at any hosting provider at a moment's notice in case the site has to move at some point.
If you get a VPS, make sure it's KVM. KVM is much more secure than OpenVZ since OpenVZ doesn't have much separation between different customers on the same server. OpenVZ is also easy to oversell. Xen is also secure, but has worse performance than KVM.
Use nginx, it has a lot better performance than Apache.
Use MariaDB. It's a more up to date fork of MySQL developed by MySQL's original developer after he sold MySQL to Oracle. Contains bug fixes that sometimes have not gotten into MySQL yet. It is of course fully compatible with MySQL databases.
Basic security hardening (I'd probably use OSSEC + Shorewall instead of fail2ban and ufw, but I'm not an expert at this ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ )
nginx SSL/TLS hardening
Let's Encrypt auto-renewal script
If you need FTP server software, Pure-FTPd is the most secure option. Use SFTP instead of FTPS for better security and less of a headache.
Disable password access for administration, require login using SSH key, and limit the number of login attempts.
Change default ports, like SSH. If anyone tries to access the default SSH port, have the firewall block them for a few hours.
Disable root login.
More security tips for SSH are available here. Don't implement port knocking though.
Disable nginx logging once everything is set up to protect user privacy and improve performance.
Keep the software up to date to decrease the risk of your serveVPS being hacked.
Don't use analytics. If you have to, self-host Matomo (formerly known as Piwik). It's open source.
Keep up to date backups of the site on multiple hard drives/SSDs/etc.
Anonymous payments
Bitcoin is fully traceable nowadays and tumbling/mixing your Bitcoin won't make any difference.
Tumblers are useless
Against my better judgement, I’m going with this click bait heading, but the premise is correct. Due to the software running real time analysis on the ledger, simply avoiding taint and breaking up coins is now entirely ineffective, as it matches the full bitcoin amount to be received over a period of time, as the software is built around a neural net of sorts (talking out of school here, I’m not a programmer) it appears to self-correct in real time as a more "likely" or "accurate" owner conclusion is reached.

Meanwhile Monero was the only cryptocurrency that that the US government couldn't track when they took down one of one of the biggest darknet drug markets and seized the site operator's cryptocurrencies. This is because Monero is the only major cryptocurrency properly designed to be private.
Update:
There has apparently been some recent developments when it comes to tracing Monero. You can read more about it in my comment on Reddit or Raddle. I wouldn't worry too much about it at this stage though.
Use I2P or Tor when transacting with cryptocurrency. I2P has some privacy benefits in its design over Tor:
Unidirectional tunnels instead of bidirectional circuits, doubling the number of nodes a peer has to compromise to get the same information. Protection against detecting client activity, even when an attacker is participating in the tunnel, as tunnels are used for more than simply passing end to end messages (e.g. netDb, tunnel management, tunnel testing) Tunnels in I2P are short lived, decreasing the number of samples that an attacker can use to mount an active attack with, unlike circuits in Tor, which are typically long lived. I2P APIs are designed specifically for anonymity and security, while SOCKS is designed for functionality.
However, I2P doesn't have as much funding and reseach or as big of a developer community behind it. I2P's userbase is also a lot smaller than Tor's. A full comparison about that can be found here. Monero chose I2P over Tor.
More information about Monero + I2P/Tor is available here.
Either get cryptocurrency donations or use a peer-to-peer exchange that doesn't enforce KYC (Know Your Customer) to buy Monero or Bitcoin. Unlike centralized exchanges, private sellers on decentralized exchanges won't automatically submit all their data to the government. Even if you get all of the cryptocurrency via donations and it therefore has no connection to your real identity at all you should still anonymize it via Monero so that it can't be traced from the donation wallet to the hosting provider which you want to keep hidden.
Some private sellers on peer-to-peer exchanges won't require IDs, while some might require it. If nothing is mentioned, it's worth asking the seller before you send them any money. A few even accept cash meetups and cash by mail (watch out for being scammed or mugged though). LocalCoinSwap, LocalCryptos, and LocalMonero even has sellers that accept gift cards (which you could buy with cash in a physical store). However, most gift cards are only redeemable in the country they were bought in, making this an option that won't work outside of the countries the sellers are based in. The one exception to this that I know of are Steam Wallet gift cards, which work internationally.
From what I've read there are some centralized exchanges that don't require KYC, but at least some of them freeze funds if they think it seems suspicious (which I would imagine a Tor IP would fall under) and they refuse to release the funds until they have been provided with an ID.
If you decide to buy cryptocurrency using a normal payment method, a wire transfer would be the option that involves the least amount of companies getting the transaction info, though I don't think you'd have much recourse with getting your money back if you got scammed and paid via wire transfer.
Bitcoin ATMs may require ID and usually have surveillance cameras around them, but this may vary depending on where you live.
If you bought Bitcoin, use XMR.to to exchange it to Monero. If the service provider only accepts Bitcoin and not Monero, exchange the Monero back to Bitcoin so that the Bitcoin has been anonymized. Don't pay in Bitcoin without exchanging it to Monero and back first.
Prepaid cards usually require SMS verification and are sometimes limited to purchases within the country they were sold in, so be sure to read up on whatever card you're considering using. Vanilla Visa gift cards used to be the go to for VPN buyers back in the day since they only required putting a zip code into a website, but things change, so read up about activation requirements and international purchases for the card in your country before buying anything and if you get information from an unofficial source, try and make sure that it's at least somewhat recent. If SMS activation is required there are two options. One option is buying a push-button burner phone and a prepaid SIM card at a physical store using cash, activate it at a major public place and then once the prepaid card is activated shut off the phone and take out the SIM card and the battery. Another option is buying access to a dedicated number in the same country that you bought the card in at an online SMS inbox site using cryptocurrency (the free SMS inboxes that have shared phone number might be used up already). The catch 22 there is that you wouldn't have any cryptocurrency yet at this stage, so it's not really an option unless you figure something out that I wasn't able to think of. If the prepaid card can't do international purchases you could withdraw the money into an anonymously created PayPal account (requires SMS verification). Expect the prepaid card and PayPal account to almost certainly get frozen if you try to pay with it over Tor. The risk is lower when paying via a VPN IP, but it's still a notable risk, especially if it's a VPN server with lots of users and you can never verify that the VPN provider isn't logging you. An anonymously paid for self-hosted VPN on a dedicated IP address in the same country that you bought the prepaid card would be less likely to cause the card to get frozen. Just don't connect to that self-hosted VPN directly using your real IP address since your ISP would see that and since you would be the only user of that self-hosted VPN it would be directly identifying. You could use the prepaid card on public WiFi, but that will give out your general location and will give the WiFi network your IP address. It will also give the WiFi network your MAC address, so be sure to set the MAC address to be random (just search something like "[operating system] random mac address on wifi" on DuckDuckGo). Then there's the issue that most browsers other than Tor Browser, SecBrowser, and Bromite are bad combating browser fingerprinting. Sure you could also customize Firefox with arkenfox user.js (formerly known as ghacks-user.js) and a bunch of add-ons to combat all the different kinds of tracking, but you'll just make your browser more unique the more you modify it.
Anonymous Internet browsing
Use Tor when doing anything in connection with the site, including when using PuTTY and FileZilla. Verify the integrity of the Tor Browser installer using PGP before running it so that you know that it hasn't been tampered with. Use a bridge if you don't want your ISP/government to see that you're using Tor. Running Tor over a VPN may seem like a good idea, but even if the VPN provider really doesn't keep logs (which is impossible to verify) using Tor over VPN can make you easier to track since that makes the VPN service a permanent entry node [1][2][3][4] and there's also VPN fingerprinting. If Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) is a concern you can use Pluggable Transports [1][2] to disguise the Tor traffic. Keep Tor Browser up to date. Never run Tor Browser in full screen. That makes you more easily trackable as websites can detect the real resolution of your screen. Don't install any add-ons or plugins, that makes you a lot easier to track. If you have logged in and then logged out of a site it can link you to other accounts you have on the same site using session cookies if you login to those accounts without hitting the "New Identity" button to relaunch Tor Browser with a clean slate. Block JavaScript when the website doesn't require it, that's the closest thing you'll come to an ad blocker. Use the Hidden Service version of sites when available, that way your Internet traffic never goes onto the clearnet and it also adds three more proxies between you and the site's server for a total of six proxies.
Since you shouldn't use an ad blocker with Tor Browser it's important that you keep your operating system up to date to minimize the risk of getting infected in case you come across some malicious JavaScript via for example malvertising when you have JavaScript activated.
If you use Windows and don't want to switch to Linux (even though you can set up dual boot or just boot it from a USB without even having to install it on your computer), use a non-admin user account and have an admin account that you only use to authorize trusted software to run, that will mitigate 94% of critical Windows vulnerabilities. You can use a tool like W10Privacy to decrease the amount of tracking in Windows 10, just be sure that the tool you use is updated to match the latest version of Windows 10 or you might brick your OS.
Email
Use an end-to-end encrypted no logs email provider located outside of Five Eyes, Germany, Enemies of the Internet, and countries under surveillance - preferably ProtonMail - when signing up for all of those services. Use a different email address for anything not related to the administration of the website. ProtonMail has a Tor Hidden Service, but signing up for ProtonMail is only possible on the clearnet address, so you'd have to go into Tor Browser's privacy settings and change "Prioritize .onion sites when known" from "Always" to "Ask every time" when you register the ProtonMail account. Change it back to "always" once the registration is complete. And yes, it is possible to sign up for ProtonMail via Tor. It's not easy finding an exit node that hasn't gotten blocked yet, and you will most likely need a secondary anonymous email account on another email provider to send a verification code to, but it is possible. Don't try using a disposable email service, ProtonMail blocks pretty much all of them so you'll just waste time and will probably get your account frozen. Once you have made an account, go into Settings > Security and then wipe and disable the authentication logs. Once that's done - before you sign up for anything - log out and wait a while then log back in, just to see if their anti-fraud system decides to freeze your account or not.
If you go for a email provider other than ProtonMail, keep in mind that it has to be there for the long haul in order to be usable. If it suddenly shuts down without notice, you're pretty much shit out of luck. So try and go for one that has been around for a while and seems like it will continue to stick around.
Comparison of alternatives:
https://privacytools.io/providers/email/
https://www.safetydetectives.com/blog/email-comparison/#3
https://www.prxbx.com/email/
Other
Use a new username that you haven't used before.
Use end-to-end encryption for all private communications. ProtonMail has built-in end-to-end encryption between ProtonMail accounts. If you want to encrypt email with PGP when communicating with non-ProtonMail users follow this guide. That will allow you to import it into ProtonMail. Just remember that the subject line will not be encrypted by PGP. PGP/MIME gives out less metadata than PGP inline and is just better in general, so use PGP/MIME. For file transfers you can also use OnionShare if the receipient also uses Tor Browser or put the file(s) into a password protected .7z file using 7-Zip with the "Encrypt file names" option enabled + a password generator set to the max number of characters that you then upload to Disroot Upload. Be aware that the lufi software that Disroot Upload runs on keeps the filename visible after the file has been deleted. If you need an end-to-end encrypted pastebin, self-host PrivateBin or use Disroot's PrivateBin. Disroot uses a privacy respecting hosting provider and claim that they don't keep logs for services that don't require an account, such as Disroot Upload and Disroot's PrivateBin.
Use DuckDuckGo instead of Google. At least when doing work related to the site. It has a Tor Hidden Service that you can easily find by searching "duckduckgo onion" or "duckduckgo hidden service" on DuckDuckGo.
Rely on open source software and privacy respecting services when it comes to processing and storing data related to the site. PrivacyTools.io, awesome-privacy, AlternativeTo, and GitHub makes it easy to find privacy respecting alternatives.
Keep software on your devices up to date to decrease the risk of it being compromised by an exploit.
And yeah, I probably went pretty deep on some of the less relevant sections, but I thought it was best to include everything.

2020.10.29 19:46 xjrqh PluginVM/Parallels Desktop for Chromebook: My Long, Dumb, Stream-of-Consciousness Review

I've been excited about this integration ever since it was announced back in June (and way earlier than that if you're the kind of person who pores through the Chromium codebase and crbug.com).
Anyway, October 20 rolls around, and Google sends out an email with a link to get started with a free trial for Parallels Desktop! So I click the link and am instantly disappointed. Instead of getting started with a free trial, it just takes you to a web form where you have to fill out contact details for you and your company.
Then you wait for someone at Parallels' Enterprise sales team to CALL you. You wait, and wait, and wait some more. Then you get an email that tells you that Parallels appreciates your business, and if you could just please wait a little bit longer. Eventually, I got tired of waiting. I already had a business account with Parallels for a different product, so I created a support ticket in the Parallels support system. In the ticket, I asked them to please have someone get in touch with me from the Enterprise Sales team.
Eventually, a very nice guy did get in touch, and he provided me with a trial license key. The trial was good for 5 devices and expired in about 30 days. I went into my Google Admin console, put a couple devices into a new OU, and then assigned the trial licenses to that new OU. I refreshed the policy on the devices and the Parallels icon showed up in the launcher! Silly me, instead of reading the documentation, I just clicked on the Parallels icon, thinking that I'd be able to set up a VM that way. Of course not!
So I break out the Administrator's Guide and try doing this the right way. You first need to create a VM using vmc on the command line, start Windows with the command line, license it, customize it, update it, install the Parallels Tools bundle, and then shut Windows down. Once it's shut down, you need to export the whole VM image to a zip file and then calculate the SHA256 hash of the zip file. Then you upload the zip file to a web server you have that can serve files via HTTP or HTTPS. THEN you update the Google Admin console so that Google knows where the zip file is and what its SHA256 hash is.
Now you delete the VM you just created using vmc destroy, reboot, and FINALLY you can now click on the Parallels Desktop icon to get started.
Parallels will then talk to Google to figure out where to download the big image file we created above. It then starts the download. The image file was around 10 GB, so it took a while. It then compares the SHA256 hash with the hash Google knows about so that it can verify that the download isn't corrupt. Everything checked out, and Windows 10 started up, looking beautiful.
Note: I am running this Windows VM on my i7 Pixelbook Go on Chrome 88 (canary-channel).
Things I like:
  1. My company has a horrible legacy internal webapp. It ONLY works in Internet Explorer. It uses oodles of frames, ActiveX, and all sorts of horribleness. Being able to use the webapp on IE makes my job so much easier though.
  2. I can run my favorite graphical LDAP administration tool, Softerra LDAP Administrator.
  3. Postman just runs better on Windows compared to Crostini. I know there's a Linux version of Postman, I've been using it on Crostini for a long time. It runs SO much better in the Windows VM, it's crazy.
  4. OFFICE 365. This is the big one. Being able to use Visio, Word, and MS Project is really nice. I know you can sorta/kinda get things working with Office 2007+Wine, but this is the real deal and it works perfectly.
  5. IrfanView. It's nice to have my favorite image program back.
  6. Windows runs well. It *feels* snappy and responsive.
  7. Suspends/Unsuspends are fast. Windows suspends in about 5 seconds, turns back on in about the same time.
  8. Integration between Windows and ChromeOS is pretty decent. Accessing your ChromeOS files in Windows works well, and vice versa. Clipboards are sync'd just fine, etc.
  9. Printers! I need to use a special check-printing device sometimes, and it works great in Windows. Other regular printers I use on the network work beautifully as well.

Things I dislike:
  1. Parallels Desktop for Chromebook in its current state is a little rough around the edges. For example, your virtual machine image name MUST be a very specific string. If you create the VM with a different name, stuff breaks.
  2. You cannot choose how much of your host's resources are allocated to the VM. Parallels uses some pre-set internal logic to examine your system and decide how many CPU cores and RAM to allocate to the VM. I've been told that there is currently a bug with auto-allocation, so on certain systems, the VM is getting less RAM than it should. See this KB article for details.
  3. Certain files need to be saved in very specific directories, otherwise stuff breaks. For example, when you're setting up your VM image for the first time, your Windows 10 ISO MUST be in /home/chronos/useMyFiles/Downloads. If it's not there, stuff breaks.
  4. There's currently no hardware GPU acceleration. However, the support site mentions that this is on the roadmap.
  5. The enterprise-y stuff, like assigning licenses to an OU, etc is a pain in the butt. But I suppose that's just par for the course when it comes to enterprise product licensing.
I do feel confident that the stuff I dislike is going to be fixed in upcoming versions of the product. It just feels a little rough at the moment.
But given all of that, it is still intoxicatingly nice to be able to use ChromeOS for 90% of my job, but have Windows available to run the last 10% of things that don't work (well) in ChromeOS, like MS Project 2019.
I haven't talked to the sales team about licensing and purchasing the product yet. I believe it is $69.99 per year, per user. Hopefully there won't be a 5-user minimum.
Verdict: Thumbs-up. It improves my experience enough that it's worth it for me to fork out the cash.
Note: The Parallels knowledge base has an article about a potential Consumer edition of the product. There's no real information yet, but if you want to be kept up-to-date on any potential changes, you can request email updates here: https://kb.parallels.com/125134

2020.10.27 13:03 Buck_Joffrey Wealth Formula Episode 235: Cashing in with Cash Machines!

Catch the full episode: https://www.wealthformula.com/podcast/235-cashing-in-with-cash-machines/
Buck: Welcome back to the show everyone. Today my guest on Wealth Formula Podcast is Daryl Heller. Daryl is a venture capitalist and an entrepreneur and the founder of Heller Capital which he is also the ceo of Heller Capital and Daryl is actually the newest partners of the Wealth Formula investor group with some exciting stuff going on over there. So with that Daryl welcome to the show.
Daryl: Thank you Buck. Pleasure to be part of the show today. I appreciate the opportunity.
Buck: Yeah and you know so just for those who don't have an idea of exactly kind of where what exactly you're doing there over at Heller Capital maybe you can kind of tell us about what that is and then ultimately specifically you know why you got into the business that we're going to talk about today which is the business of automatic teller machines or ATM machines.
Daryl: Yeah I'd be glad to. So my history is telecom technology entrepreneur started my first company I was in college ended up being fortunate enough to take a few to financial events and then about the 2012 time period I moved into private equity and Heller capital group owns anywhere from 12 to 15 operating companies three to five private placements at any given time and you know has a market cap of around 500 million right now. In terms of ATMs that's a bit more interesting in 2011, I ended up having an opportunity to invest into this space and did a significant amount of diligence and found out there's very thick operating margins and initially saw it and still do today as a real estate play where we could capture a lot of real estate and end up monetizing that real estate with things beyond ATMs so but we're sitting here you know many years later nine going on 10 years later and having the same success and even higher success as we'll talk about today I'm sure than we had back in 2011. So you know that's how I got into the space I have about 15 million in the ATM space. I'm a firm believer in the old Microsoft adage that you eat your own dog food first and accordingly you know I've done just that.
Buck: Yeah and we're talking about 15 million of your own money in there. So how do you make money from owning ATMs, I mean you know give us a sense of you how does of course when you go to a chase and you already have a chase account you don't pay any money but a lot of this has to do with you know the the the surcharges right how does that work and you know what kind of volumes do you typically see in an ATM machine in a given day?
Daryl: Yeah our ATMs are what I would call a very defined demographic that is strategic by nature, for example mall groups we deselected about five six years ago fortunately we did with covet as they got crushed there we saw online retail I'm really impacting it. So our demographic is in this kind of on banked and under bank that's a high percentage of it, I'm sure we'll speak more to that later but in terms of how we make money within that demographic essentially an operator, our management company charges the user you know anywhere from 2.50 to 3.50 for each transaction that they make plus on top of that the operator makes around 25 for something called interchange so their revenue stream would be surcharge plus interchange and then the rule of thumb this varies obviously Buck but the rule of thumb is 20 to 30 percent could go to the retail location, 25 to 30 percent goes into the the WF Velocity fund that we're talking about today and then generally in that you know 40 to 55 percent is retained by the management company to operate the ATM and then the management company aggregates ATMs into large pools, blends the returns for WF Velocity fund it removes it removes seasonality the demographic issues all those other volatilities and then we as the owner of the ATM get paid a percentage of that surcharge generated at the ATM. So that's how it works in terms of you ask volume levels if you're going to use a rule of thumb for the type of demographics we're in we're generally around that in that 500 range, we get paid on slightly less than that the management company keeps insurance buffer in there for themselves which is you know how we came through Covid completely unimpacted. But that's essentially the revenue model and how you make money with an ATM.
Buck: So one of my one of the members of an Investor Club emailed me when we started we had this offering the WF Velocity fund, which is open of course only to accredited investors, and he says the first question I had in my mind is who uses cash? Now I know I don't use it much and you probably don't either however statistically year over year the cash numbers are actually going up isn't that correct. So who's using cash?
Daryl: Yeah that is correct the monetary system's growing both in the US there's some interesting stats in the US and certainly at a worldwide level but yeah I asked myself the same question back in 2011 and I remember reading an article from 1999 on the Wall Street talking about cash will be dead in a few years well you know we're now 20 plus years beyond 1999 and cash is actually growing and we now have empirical data for the last nine years to actually show that it's incrementing up not decrementing down and and it really comes down to again that demographic issue. Buck you and I and many of the people listening to the show today are not using their ATM card much. However the focus is those that lack credit thus credit card access so again that on bank and under bank which is a large demographic already and a growing demographic so it's those who lack credit and thus credit card access you know credit challenges those who use prepaid cards which kind of plays into the EBT side our our government welfare system is now running a prepaid it has been for many years and will continue to be so that's a big focus of our demographic is people using their EBT called EBT card and it's essentially their bank an ATM is seen as their bank given a lot of them don't have bank accounts they're working on prepaid cards. And then you know ATMs get used for transferring funds and other functions in lieu of online banking which kind of ties into you know there's a demographic of people out there that just distrust credit cards given all the credit card breaches some of the big retailers over the past few years and just prefer to do their online on a machine versus you know through you know their version of how it would run on the internet side. And then you know there's just a segment of people when it's growing that simply prefer cash that maybe don't fit into the unbanked and under bank but they prefer cash. I mean for example 10 years ago you know all employers would give you a paycheck and you'd go to the bank and cash your paycheck and take a couple hundred dollars out. Now it's all ACH or wired. So you know at some point you have to go get cash and all banks are seeing you know traffic counts going way down they're closing branches and they're starting to see ATMs as a vault on the street and many of the ATMs that are in this portfolio will be branded by the big banks as well so yeah you know Buck you already own some ATMs. Some of those ATMs have some bank brands on it so if you walk up to where their user does they may think it is XYZ bank when in reality it's your ATM and they're just paying to brand on it and that's the banks are seeing let's put vaults out there so access to cash is easier and that's changing the demographic game a bit more where there's a broader demographic people using it. I do use an ATM more than I used to I'm not sure if that's because I'm an investor in it and yeah have an affinity towards it now or if it's just a real change in my behavior I'm not sure.
Buck: Yeah when it's interesting you know you make a very interesting point I think a lot of people don't think about this but you know there is this overall shift you know in in in the workforce of increased you know sort of atomization and you know replacing replacing individuals with technology and ATM machines have a function beyond you know getting your cash out right. So I mean surcharges for that are part of that is just you know banking period right so you're just you have banking transactions going on there. The other thing that I think it for me at least you know and I've just my own noticing what people talk about in the space versus what's reality is that you know the idea that about cash and its use going away I mean first of all as you know it's going up as we talked about second of all there's no legislation, there's no legislation on this matter in the US and this is a generational change it's not like oh gosh every every you know the next day we're gonna wake up and there's gonna be no cash. The reality is that people like cash. I think there's some statistic about you know well over 70 80 percent of people oppose the idea of going to a cashless society. And the other interesting thing is that in areas like the Bay Area where various merchants have tried to you know stop taking cash they've actually come under fire as being quote unquote racist because they're not open to people who primarily function in cash. Some comments on that Daryl?
Daryl: Yeah no really interesting subject matter there. I mean I put it kind of under cash relevance because it's a question I get asked a lot of questions that I and we still do a lot of diligence on. So you know we talked about this you know demographic issue that uses EBT et cetera but then you get into just and that's not changing that's actually growing so our demographic is growing not not decreasing but then you get into things like you spoke about there is no pending regulation out there there is no regulatory risk on the horizon relative to cash in fact there's a a bill out there called payment choice act of 2019, I think it's bill 2850 it has bipartisan support, I think it has 38 co-sponsors from both sides of the aisle and that kind of plays into what you saw occurring you referenced other countries some large retailers. You got countries like india sweden spain china there's quite a few others that made a run at becoming cashless and all reversed it right and pretty quick order then you got some large retailers I mean Walmart started some pretty big pilots just continue to pilot quickly Mcdonald's United Airlines. I mean you can go on and on and you know those have all been reversed and it is a discrimination issue. There are some local governments, state governments that have already put regulation out there in the discriminatory side but again there's some federal things being worked on. And then if you just go and look at the us I mean this is an interesting fact that I read recently and in the US as of 9 30 so you know less than a month ago there was 2 trillion in circulation of cash in the US and that's a 22 increase from January of this year so you can sit here and say did covet impacted negatively you know how did how does this epidemic how does this pandemic that we're still in today impact cash well it's certainly not hurting yet and well one of the things anything that's increasing it and this perception of the virus contained in bills and stuff both of those myths have been dispelled by now.
Buck: One of the things you mentioned which I thought was fascinating and I didn't realize this is a lot of the government programs are prepaid you know ATM cards right? I mean they're basically debit cards and people can go in and the way they're getting their cash is through those cards so that's that probably explains why you've got so much cash coming in. Anyway so I've invested in ATMs myself over the past three four years through you know your various funds and what's striking to me and I did it admittedly you know for me a lot of it was a tax play and there was you know attractive returns along with the tax play and all that stuff but over the last three or four years I've noticed a couple of things: first the monthly payments were never missed and even during Covid 19. Again to me I was like oh Covid 19 is happening how is that you know how who's going to get cash but to your point, I mean if a large segment of the population relies on cash to just buy the basics, you know everyone's being forced to stay at home but they still have to eat right I mean isn't that basically, is that what happened I mean why why was this what what made it so strong you know other than the you know the prepaid debit cards, is that pretty much the main driver you think?
Daryl: Yeah so I think it's a couple fold but you know again if you go to the prepaid debit cards that becomes a demographic issue and you know that on banked underbanked. In fact many of those came out of this pandemic with a whole lot of money more than they were typically getting as you well know so that played into it there's also this perception when you go into a pandemic some people want to hoard cash. We saw massive runs in large large cities which is unbelievable amount of cash out some of our ATMs up to some of our ATMs were up two to three x from what they were a year over during that time period. So Buck when you really look at Covid and you say how did we weather that storm it was really the demographic issue was these central locations. Did we have a few ATMs shut down? Of course we did but we had many ATMs that were performing at the level they had previous to Covid and many that were performing at levels well beyond what they had performed. So you know for example when you take the most impactful four week period of time we were down around 12 now you read some industry reports which include bank ATMs retail ATMs and all ATMs that were down 30 a lot of operators. But again because of this very narrow band very acute focus demographic you know that was worst case down about 10 in our 12 excuse me in our segments and then that just started to come back I will say in July year over year same store same ATM we were up literally up from 2019. August the same. I've yet to see september numbers but I'll be shocked that that's not the case so yeah we it really comes down to where our ATMs were placed we did not have many in non-essential locations and they're in C stores and they're in places where that demographic was actually getting having more cash than they had prior to Covid because of all the government you know supplemental or subsidy programs that are out there. And then I think there was a higher percentage of people that were using ATMs that wanted to pull cash out and they made that. The bank was closed. They couldn't go into a bank so they had to go to their bank on the street or bank in a convenience store. So there's a lot of really interesting elements when you start to kind of pull the layers back on that and get under it but that would be a few of them and you know it's the reason September August and I think excuse me July August and I think September will be year over same store up from 2019.
Buck: So with all that being said is it fair to say and do we have statistics to say that, that investments in ATMs you know at least in terms of the the way we're looking at it through this fund model is uncorrelated to the economy at large.
Daryl: Yes I would agree with that assessment. I'd suggest cash stays you know relative consistent regardless of bull or bear market for all the you know aforementioned reasons we spoke about again, you study the demographic you're just not going to see the volatility and those EBT users in fact you're going to see an increase to it irrespective of board bear market.
Buck: So our our Investor Club and your group have partnered partnered now and offer what we are calling the WF and as of course it's Wealth Formula, WF Velocity fund. Can you talk about how the fund works in general? I should point out that it is a Reg D 506C offering which means it's open to accredited investors only and that's why we can actually talk about it on this podcast specifically but maybe you could kind of give people an idea of how that fund works and you know maybe get into the numbers a little bit etc.
Daryl: Absolutely so there's an allocation of ATMs that have been allocated to this fund as an opportunity it's not an obligation but it's an allocation that we've worked on with WF Velocity fund on. So essentially invested Investor Club members would make an investment. The unit is 104 000 you can also purchase a half unit which is 52000 and from that the ATMs are purchased, they're then placed by the operator or what we would call the management company in these target demographics that we've defined here today and then the ATM is operated by that management company, that operator. So they're certified iso they fall under a lot of regulatory accountability. They have a sponsor bank they have annual audits, random audits to give you some security and transparency on that side. All ATMs or EMV, ADA, PCI compliant and then essentially they're contracting some of it is in source some of it's outsourced they're contracting with individuals to essentially operate that ATM so you have processors the same processors your bank uses like Fiserve and alarm other ones processing these transactions. They have bailment contracts they have two large national wall street banks that's providing the cash to put into the vaults of the ATMs they hire armored which is secure transport your loomis springs guarded trucks that you see driving around as we're on the highway these days and then they have maintenance companies some of it is in source they have some of their own maintenance teams but they have maintenance companies that will roll a truck to an ATM. A lot of it is the reboots and a lot of the maintenance and diagnostics are done remotely these days, but they're still you know requirements to roll trucks at times. And then they insure the cash and the ATM so if someone steals that ATM or goes in and puts a sledgehammer to it whatever it may be, you know we take on none of that risk and as noted early we then get paid a percentage of that surcharge in these blended pools to remove our volatility and you know makes for a very nice investment on our site.
Buck: Yeah so basically the idea here is that you buy a unit which is you know or a half unit so it's either six or three ATM machines and you own those right and but really what you're doing is you're taking you're you're signing a venture agreement and then in order to sort of really mitigate that risk of volatility, the income produced by those machines goes into a larger pool, you know thousands of machines to really flatten out and stabilize the return which is then returned as a fixed return over the course of seven years of monthly dividends. You want to talk a little bit about what those returns look like? And this is subject to change, but we're talking as of October in almost November here of 2020.
Daryl: Just a bit on the pooled or blended funds or pools of ATMs. In the early days it was variable and the challenge we had is we had investor A and investor B sitting in the same country club when one individual was Sally was getting a lot more than John just by virtue of where it was placed so to kind of level all that out to take the seasonality out to take the demographic issue out, they pull thousands of ATMs which not only manages risk for all of us but it flattens that you know that ATM yield out and doesn't create those those volatilities up and down on a monthly basis. But yet to the returns I use that as the segway you know I'll put free metrics out there, you have your you know your cash on cash, and the cash on cash returns here are very high but again you're making an investment in a piece of equipment an asset that depreciates it down so you know don't let this be misleading to you, I might say that from a conservative lens. But the real cash on cash is you know 25.2 percent and then the cash on cash when you factor in depreciation which I'm sure we're talking about today actually goes up to 33.2 if you factor it in at 40%. So strong cash from cash but at the end of that seven year contract your ATM for something but very little because it's a fatigue depreciated asset. Rate of return which you know I like to look at that's eleven point three percent rate of return with depreciation is seventeen point zero percent and then you know IRR which is what many people look at in this space without depreciation would be sixteen point five percent, with depreciation you know it's up slightly over 30.
Buck: Yeah so the internal rate of return, this is something we don't talk a lot about frankly in the real estate world because we tend to use different language. We often talk about annualized returns. But one of the values here in using this internal rate of return number is that it takes into consideration the time value of money and so for a fixed for something that's a depreciating asset over seven years that's a very, very important number. And a lot of it just is about how quickly you're getting your money back with consideration of what else you could do with the money in other words, I mean that's sort of like the high high level explanation of internal rate of return. Now Daryl was talking specifically about with or without depreciation. You know we talk a lot on this show about tax implications of investing in tax efficient investing. And so basically this is a piece of equipment and it can be depreciated so it's not just because of a current law but any equipment if I buy medical equipment through my business can be depreciated over five years down to zero and similarly with just like depreciation in other areas that we talk about right now, there is the idea of bonus depreciation with the Trump law or Trump tax changes at least temporarily at least for the time being you can take all of that depreciation up front. So if you had a hundred and four thousand dollar investment and you have passive income to offset, that's important it's a passive income, then you can offset that income with the you know passive deduction you're getting from these machines. So that is actually a huge, huge opportunity and honestly it's one of the main reasons that I've done this. I mean obviously the returns are very attractive but you throw in the additional element of an internal rate of return exceeding 30, you put that together with you know being able to write the whole thing off during bonus depreciation time really it's like getting your money back in less than three years and to me that's a really interesting proposition. So Daryl do you have anything to add on the tax side because it's funny because I don't when we did this presentation when we did it originally as a webinar I think you were probably taken aback by the sheer volume of tax questions but my group is completely obsessed with the concept of tax efficient investing.
Daryl: Yeah clearly a very sophisticated group of investors. You know personally Buck I think this is one of the more significant opportunities that our current tax you know code law has and I don't think it'll be here long term I mean depending on administration changes in the next what couple two weeks well would start in January but decisions made in the next couple weeks, I do think this is an opportunity when you get into 2021 that at a minimum will be reduced if not completely removed. But yeah it's powerful because if you think about it you can depreciate 100 of your investment in that first year. So you know whatever take round numbers take five units take 520k and let's just say you're you're taking bonus depreciation and you're in that 40 tax bracket all in so essentially that's 208000 right off of that that essentially is depreciated or coming off so your net basis if you will is 312k but you're going to get the return of a 520k investment. Now that does presume that you have some other passive income as was noted by you you're naturally going to have passive income generated that first year so you have that against it so you won't need the full 208, but you know you're gonna have some other you need some other passive investment to kind of run that financial model hypothetical that I just put out there. But it's powerful even if it's gonna carry forward even if you're just shielding you know you know all your income that first year because you can get in and say your entire income your first year two years is shielded through bonus depreciation so it isn't a very impactful tool and one that you know I've utilized for years and I'm hopeful that it does not go away, but I think we may be looking at a three four five six month run on this.
Buck: I agree with that on the bonus appreciation side and you know Tom Wheelwright my CPA was on the show a couple of weeks ago and we talked about this issue of bonus depreciation. It's one of the things that he whereas a number of the things in the real estate space he does not believe are really gonna go away, he doesn't think 1031s are going to go away et cetera. Bonus is going to go away and the question of when it goes away is really when the legislation comes up for it to go away because once it gets ratified, which it almost certainly will, then it reverts back to the date that that legislation was put forward so it seriously could be you know sometime relatively early next year. There's certainly a possibility. So what I like about the bonus depreciation from I'll just take one thing that I'll really like about because you don't have to do this over bonus depreciation but you can and and to me it's attractive because say you don't use that depreciation because you don't have enough passive income well you just carry it forward and try to figure out a way to create more passive income. Te talked about with that on the Tom show those of you who've got surgery centers, they've got infusion centers, you've got dialysis centers, this is all passive income and if your CPAs are not calling it passive income then you should seriously consult another CPA because you have an opportunity here potentially to wipe out like all the the taxes that you would pay on that. Again I'm not a CPA but this is stuff that we've talked about a fair amount and I feel fairly confident and telling you that you know this is this stuff works. Daryl one one more question for you and because you know people initially I think sometimes they also hear like it's an ATM play and it sounds a little you know, even for the alternative people it sounds a little alternative right? But this is not a mom and pop show. Talk a little bit about the partners here. Because this is a you know this is this is a top five operator this is you know we've got some of the some people on the board here who are you know, this is high level stuff this is not like a rookie crew. Can you talk a little bit about that?
Daryl: I'd be glad to. So yeah our operator, our management company is top five in the US. They've got close to 10000 ATMs they've got you know up times of 98.5 so they are a best-in-class operator out there and this space you know you can kind of break it down into to use your phraseology that the mom and pop and then the more larger institutional players so we're working with a bona fide growing very successful proper profitable you know operator management company which gives us a lot of security and beyond that what really helps and I noted this earlier at risk of being redundant I'll bring it up again and that is they have a sponsor back and you know to to do it at this level they do fall under a lot of regulatory scrutiny so you know they do have audits and process process systems financial viability audits etc so you know you to be an operator to operate at this level you have to be an organization that is best in class that does well and that operates you know fundamentally selling business.
Buck: So you've got an institutional quality group of individuals and operators with an institutional level, a significant portfolio, attractive monthly payments, hedge against the economy and it's highly tax efficient so it sounds like a pretty good opportunity and I assume you would think so too. So ladies and gentlemen you can learn more about this at WFVelocity.com Daryl and I did a presentation together and you can check that out there, again that's WFvelocity.com. Daryl I want to thank you very much for giving us your time today and explaining what I think is the you know particularly interesting investment given the time that we're in from an economic standpoint, from a volatility standpoint, from even from you know just the tax advantages that we have currently so thank you very much for joining us.
Daryl: My pleasure. I enjoyed our time. Thank you as well.
Buck: We'll be right back
