2020.11.22 04:19 nihongaijiner Trying to find a song I heard/saw on YouTube about ten years ago. Pop. Two girls on New York sidewalk that changes colors.

The two girls are wearing short skirts. One is Asian and a little thick. The other is, I swear, a twenty year old version of Michelle Pfeiffer.
The only lyrics I can remember and I know I don't have them exactly correct are something like this:
"He could be the one that shines (sees?) the light inside my soul." When they sing 'soul', they extend it out.
It's a very simply made video, low budget but the changing colors of the sidewalk and other buildings is a nice touch. There are scenes on the sidewalk where the blonde is on top of a newspaper box, both of them walking down wide outdoor steps with a rail down the middle and another of them stepping off the top of an escalator.
Really need to hear this again!

2020.11.21 10:58 Annabeth_Granger1r Kamijirou fanfiction recommendations list updated version!

Hey! For this week I at least thought it was right to give you an updated Kamijirou fic recs list! I hope this will be as helpful as possible. Before getting started, there are three little things to say:
- All of those fanfics (except for two among Izupie's ones) are on Archiveofourown.
- Most of them are fluff - except the ones where I added the word “Angst” in the parenthesis.
- The fanfictions that are part of the two collections created in the Kamijirou Discords (“The Diner AU” and “Nox Insomnis”) are written in bold and italics respectively. Bold and italics are for zine fics. Underlined for Kamijirou Exchange fics.
Now, onto the list!

2020.11.18 23:45 Darkrose00 21 [M4F] Midwest - I can't guarantee you that I'm your first, but I can guarantee you that I'm your last :)

Not my first time posting, but hopefully it will be my last lol. I'm certain that I'll find someone out there for me!
About meeee
Hi, I'm Sid. I'm 21 and I'm from Wisconsin. Yes, all there is in Wisconsin is cheese, beer, and cows and no I don't really partake much in drinking or too much in cheesehead shenanigans, so drinking Wisconsibly doesn't really apply to me lmao. Physically, I'm 5'7", black hair, brown eyed, and asian (Hmong). Fair warning is that I do have what people call a "dad bod", but I prefer father figure. Personality wise, I'd describe myself as caring, warming, enthusiastic, funny, outgoing, thoughtful, empathetic, sympathetic, affectionate, passionate, and dorky. Yes, I'm super dorky and corny, so if that sounds a-maize-ing, then I'm your guy. Also a fungi as well. Alright I'm done lmao.
More about me is that I'm currently going to university for a Human Biology degree. I'm not sure what I want to do with it or what I want to do after university, but I do have a full time job as a Lab Tech to keep me tied down and busy for now. Yes, I do go to school and work full time, but I also will make you full time as well if we hit it off or are interested in more. If you're looking for someone who sort of has their life together, then I'm the oneee.
My interests that you may or may not care about lol
What am I looking for?
I'm looking for companionship and a long term relationship. I want to get to know someone and develop something great and long lasting. I'm here for a good time, but also a long time :). Small talk or big talk, it doesn't matter to me. I find joy in getting to talk about anything and everything. As long as I'm getting to spend time with my significant other, then I'm content with whatever. Sometimes life is too short to worry about the smaller things in life.
In an actual relationship, I enjoy the small thingg such as goodmorning/goodnight messages. I enjoy just doing the dumb little things that everyone loves and enjoys that shows that you both care. I'm looking for someone to be my cheerleader, someone to be my ride or die because I'll more than likely also be yours as well. I'm looking to talk about feelings, emotions, and what is on each other's mind. I'm super passionate about mental health and mental wellbeing. I don't want to hide my emotions and what I'm feeling. I think it's rather courageous to show vulnerability and weakness. Because if we don't show that we're vulnerable, then we won't get to grow as a person. This leads into my next point of growing. I'd love to find someone to grow and have fun with. Personal growth whether it's a bit each day or a bit each week, is much more attractive than none at all, so let's get it and tackle the world together.
Who am I looking for?
Hopefully my next boba bae ;). Seriously, I don't have any strong preferences or deal breakers. Although, I do have a mild to moderate attraction to white girls and latinas/hispanics, but it's just a preference! It doesn't mean that it disqualifies anyone else. I'm open to anyone. If we vibe well, then I'll love you for who you are :). Some other things are, I'd like for you to be somewhat passionate about your career or your education as that's something that's important to me as well. I'd also like it for you to be mature mentally, but I won't turn people away if they're actively working on bettering themselves. Overall, just be yourself. Don't change yourself because you don't want to be an inconvenience. If you're clingy, then be clingy. If you're independent, then be independent. Just be you, that's all that I ask :). Also, don't mind where you're from as long as you're within North America, then it should be manageable lol.
Thanks for reading through my post, if I sound like your kind of guy, then we should talk cause time is of the essence!! :)

2020.11.17 00:59 thrashmetalguitarist Stories from my time as a street musician.

I'm a street musician, I often play at a pier in Southern California. I'm really into dad-metal. Anything from Sabbath, to Metallica, to Ministry, all that good stuff. I take two or three guitars, a set of stereo mini amplifiers, a few pedals, and the other necessities, (like cables, water, a tip jar, etc.). I play lead guitar at my spot for a couple of hours, then pack up, and drive home. I make decent money, and see a lot of familiars when I'm out, so I go about twice a week. I make anywhere from $20 to $200 depending on the time, day, and weather. But usually I make an average of $80 after 5 hour playing shift.
Let me start this one off by saying; I'm 20, and I'm not really what many people consider "attractive", but I'm not really repulsive either. Anyways, I typically play in one spot under the pier, where there's a lot of pedestrian traffic going either way, around 15 to 40 people at a time, I would say. This particular day, I was developing a crowd, and tips were starting to build up, which was making me feel pretty good. It's a really awesome feeling to have a crowd like that. But suddenly two really cute girls came up to me, and were going: "Yeah!!", and, "Whoo!". People are sarcastic sometimes, and it's a little hard to tell, because some folks genuinely like the music but overreact anyways. But that doesn't matter much anyways because it only gets me more positive attention, so it's appreciated either way. But before I knew it, one of the girls dropped down, and started twerking on me! And I kinda froze. I didn't stop playing, because that's never the solution unless it's an emergency. She was really cute, and I've never had something like this happen before. But there were literally families with their kids watching!! I had no idea what to do, I didn't wanna be a jerk and tell her to stop, and interrupt my playing. But I also didn't wanna ruin the day for the families watching! Anyways, I kinda seized up, and she stopped after a few seconds, they asked a couple of flirty questions when the song was over, then walked away. Nothing like this had ever happened to me while I had been out playing before, and it was both really embarrassing, and cool. They were really pretty, but they really ruined the moment.
This one is a little shorter, but it was really wholesome. I play the song "Nothing Else Matters" by Metallica almost every time I'm out there, it's an easy song, well known, and generally liked by a broad audience. It's very easy to sing too, and I have been singing it while I play for a good while now. This one time, a mom and her two daughters came up to me when I was playing the song. They looked about 5 to 10 respectively. I was definitely on a roll that day, and it became even more clear to me how well I was doing when she put her arms around both of her daughters, and started swaying side to side with the music. I got to the final verse, and I tend to really belt that part out, as it grabs a lot of ears, and drags in more listeners. It's right before the solo too, so it's kinda fitting. Anyways, she actually started crying a little bit, at least I think. She was wearing sun glasses, so it was a little hard to tell. But she came up to me after the song, and told me that her daughter was learning the song, and that the song meant a lot to them. She tipped me, gave me a ton of thanks, and left. It's definitely one of those things that I appreciate above all, and keeps me playing everyday!
This story goes WAAAAY back, I must have been at least 17. Back then I would actually play out on the pier, rather than under it. There was one regular there, likely homeless, that constantly listened to me play. (The city I play in has a large homeless community). I actually tend to get a lot of homeless listeners. Which is really cool, because they're mostly really nice, and have lots of cool stories. But this particular guy would always pull up on his bike, and he always had a huge flask of bourbon in his pocket. He was really into my playing, which I appreciate, but he would shout the words really loud (and often wrong), slur his speech, and irritate the other pedestrians. He had dirty clothes and a short beard. He was a white dude, and looked about 5'10"ish. He seemed to be around 40 or 50, and in decent health, aside from being a little overweight. Anyways he had left a few hours ago, and one of my friends met me at the pier to help carry my gear back to her house. On the way there, another street "performer" (I guess you could say), was out there with her pet pig! It was so cute, and friendly! We sat down with her, and talked to her for a while. We were sitting on the ground, off to the side of where the pier leads to the actual board walk. So we were on the floor, but not actually in the way. I should also mention that we were facing away from people coming and going. The pig was being really cute and what not. It was really windy that day, and it actually climbed onto my lap and into my jacket! It would squeal everytime it thought I was moving my jacket away too. Absolutely adorable! But suddenly out of nowhere, that same homeless dude, walked up behind us. He was as shit faced as it gets, but amazingly silent. We didn't even hear him coming! Like I said, we were facing the other direction, so we didn't see him coming anyways. I guess he recognized me from behind, because he tried to approach me, but his drunk ass, and his bike literally FELL ONTOP OF MY FRIEND. My friend screamed, and the owner of the pig, and my friend started freaking out. I threw the bike off of her, and pulled the man off of her. He kept babbling apologies as he walked away. He even tripped trying to get on his bike again a few yards away. My friend was okay, and by the time he was gone, I was in hysterics laughing. I obviously felt bad for the guy, he wasn't in the right mind set. But it was so random and startling.
A lot of people ask me about the most I've been tipped. This one was also a while ago, probably around 2018. I was actually playing a different pier, maybe an hour North of where I usually play. It was summer, and very hot. But the day was closing and the sunset was just starting. When people tip me, I try to make eye contact, smile, and say "thank you so much". Throughout the years that I've been doing this, I've learned that ignoring people who tip, and not being interactive GREATLY reduces income. People are less likely to approach, and especially return if you're silent or unresponsive. But because of the way I respond, I often don't see how much people tip me unless it's mentioned. So I never really know how much people are tipping except by the faint color of the bills and the size of the wad they put in. And that's really all I can figure from the corner of my eye. Anyways, my tip jar was full, and it was time to empty it. Halfway through the last song before I could empty it, a couple silently dropped a bill in. It's been so long, I can't really remember, but I seem to recall it being a large, bald black man, and his wife, who I remember nothing about, except for having large, curly hair. I said a quick thank you, and finished the song. Sure enough, I look down, and it's a crisp, $100 dollar bill. I was startled, and by that point they were long gone! So I didn't have time to say anything, or even get a good look at them. I didn't wanna risk anything, so I called a ride home. I was staying with my grandparents, and my grandfather has a masters degree in business, so he often works in financial departments. I gave the bill to him, and he verified that it was really a real $100 bill. We guessed why the couple might have tipped it to me for a long time. My grandmother guessed that it may have been a tourist from Japan or China, who had forgotten about the differences in bills. (This city gets a ton of Asian tourists). But they didn't look Asian, so I had my doubts. Today my assumption is, it was another musician who was somewhat successful, and gave me a hefty donation. What do you guys think? I'd love to hear your guesses!

In an actual relationship, I enjoy the small things. I enjoy good morning and good night messages. I enjoy just doing the dumb little things that everyone loves and enjoys that shows that you both care. I'm also looking for someone to be my cheerleader, someone to be my ride or die because I'll more than likely also be yours as well.

2020.11.16 16:08 BestOnixEver Chiara Léi - Penguin Empress - [Discord Tournament]

Team Sub for the Tournament
Name: Chiara Léi
Age: 17 ; Height: 1.50m ; Weight: 43Kg
Occupation: High Schooler
Aura Type: Emission
Advanced Technique: SHU, Her Shu is already quite advanced despite her level because of how it links to her ability. Applied to the things she kicks, it amplifies the power of her killer shoots while keeping the item in one piece. As an emitter she can keep it mostly intact over distance.
Equipment:
- 30 x Deflated Soccer Balls: they are made of sturdy rubber and can be inflated to just the right pressure by her emitting aura into them. They are stored inside a number of pockets on Chiara’s suit.
- Carbon-enhanced shin guards
- Soccer shoes with sharpened cleats
- A pair of sport goggles with binocular lenses, Chiara can use them to locate her target and aim from very long distances. She usually wears them on top of her forehead, like sunglasses, while not using them.
HATSU:
PINGUINO IMPERATORE [Emission-Manipulation]:
The user kicks a projectile and charges it with a not trivial amount of aura to emit a penguin shaped nen beast around it, which also acts as Shu. Penguins are able to glide in the air (or water) to extend the range of shoots, and change the trajectory mid flight at even fairly steep angles. They are instructed with the simple command of: reach the designated target with as much momentum as you can.
The limit on how many penguins she can shoot in succession is three, when one hits the target it can explode on impact like an artillery missile, or bite onto them and wait for a detonation signal (a finger whistle from the user). Two or three penguins exploding together guarantee high damage output even when the distance is so large that the shoots themselves lose their destructive power.
The user can concentrate to share her sight with a single penguin after she throws it.
Limitations:
- The power, speed, and manoeuvrability of the Nen beasts depends on the shape and size of the projectile. Spherical objects the size of a soccer ball are the ideal, the further away she goes from that the weaker the resulting penguin.
- This Hatsu doesn’t work on objects larger than a soccer ball.
- Requires kicking something.

STAR WALK [emission]:
The user can emit a short burst of aura from her feet when kicking. Aided by the fact that she doesn’t weigh a lot, this has the effect of increasing her sprinting and jumping strength on command. She can kick in mid air to jolt herself in a direction, or slow down her fall, but there’s enough of a cool-down to make it so she can’t stall in the air.
This is intended as a versatile mobility tool, not something to be used offensively.

Strenghts:
- 4 Born Striker: Chiara is incredibly talented in the skills that make a great striker which she refined by training under her grandpa. Those include aim, shoot control, reaction times, awareness of surroundings, and especially agility, both on the ground and in the air. As a matter of fact, she could be falling upside down in mid air, but she’ll find a way to land a shoot where she wants it and look cool while doing it.
- 3 High Legpower: her legs are S T R O N K. She trained them to the point that she can jump and leap great distances before even factoring aura. Of course her kicks hurt a lot, she can easily bend metal beams and leave a mark on steel plates with a stomp. Her legs are also fast, by kicking the ground in rapid succession she can perform an activity called “running” with impressive rapidity indeed.
- 2 A well trained talent: Her high Nen talent was noticed early and cultivated by her grandpa. She has a strong grasp of Nen fundamentals, as well as a more than respectable aura pool.
Weaknesses:
- 2 Poor reach in CQC: Chiara is short for Asian standards, let alone western ones, despite using her legs as her primary weapon her reach hardly reaches a meter, so she’s prone to being outranged in CQC and can’t sustain it for long on her own.
- 3 Crappy Boxing: Due to her leg focused training and habits, she is extremely unlikely to use her arms offensively and in general, if not for emergency parries and sporadic movement aid (think Sanji).
- 1 Hot Headed: At times, Chiara will get pissed off at his brother’s over protectiveness and not listen to him, they usually reconcile shortly after.
Character Design and Personality AKA Appearance/sub-bio:
\Kicks Hound off the Keyboard-There’s no need for him here**
Character Design:
Chiara is an athletic teenager with a strong and dynamic personality. She has quite the happy-go-lucky and lively personality but she can be hot-headed at times. She is quite mature and independent for her age and often makes her brother worry about the slightest. Her personality really shines on the pitch or the battlefield; as a matter of fact, her vitality and fighting spirit make her emanate a charismatic and intimidating aura, much like a queen or an empress. This reflects a lot in her fighting style, preferring to dominate the air to put the enemy at a disadvantage and control the battlefield. Her sheer determination, passion and charisma is also evident when singing and dancing. Due to this, she can feel intimidating at times. Despite this, she is quite the caretaker with people she likes and can be extremely nice and warm-hearted.
She has long wavy hair, dyed pinkish orange, tied in two ponytails and her eyebrows are dyed as well. She has brown eyes and reddish lips and cheeks. She has all the physical traits Asian girls share: elongated eyes, thick hair and pale skin. Due to her training, she has quite a stout and fit body but she still manages to be sexy.
Chiara dresses like your standard anime tomboy mixed with a KPOP idol. She wears a light blue tracksuit with orange and white patterns with a pink top under it. She wears soccer socks and a pair of soccer shoes. There are several pictures of her mascot, Mr. Pingo, stitched to her tracksuit.
She likes to wear a ton of wristbands and other sport gear merely for aesthetic reasons, she also decorated her tracksuit by hand, wanting to show her flashiness and fashion philosophy to the world. She always wears red lipstick and pink eye-shadow on her face. Chiara wants to be in top aesthetic shape even when fighting/playing, to look even more “Royal” to the untrained eye.
Bio:
Much like her brother, Chiara grew up under her grandpa wings, playing soccer and learning about Chinese culture and traditions. Despite all the time spent on the pitch, she never let down school and studied really hard to better herself and make her relatives proud of her results. She is quite the gifted student when it comes to language studies and, at age 14, she could already speak English and Chinese quite proficiently (and Italian duh). She started reading from a very young age as one of her favourite hobbies, making her able to develop a wide vocabulary. Under her grandpa advice, she also started practicing singing. Chiara’ s voice was quite powerful for a teen of her age and also quite deep and expressive, making her the most praised talent of her musical class. After the death of her grandpa, she decided to continue playing soccer and singing, as a tribute to her grandpa that helped her develop her talents so much. She also started to feel the effects of puberty a lot more and spent much of her free time reading and learning about Japanese Weeb Culture, even learning basic Japanese. She also started rapping and break dancing in the streets of her city, making almost all of the teenagers in the area simping for her. She can rap fluently in Italian, Chinese, Japanese and English (because she is freaking OP with languages if you didn’t get the massage). Later, she decided to put her wide set of talents to good use, starting to work as a VTuber. Despite her not being 18, she was charismatic and talented so much so the managers could not deny her a contract. Now, she regularly streams every week and uploads covers and original songs written and sang by herself. She took the name of Yuuki Joō and proclaimed her favourite plush, Mr. Pingo, as her mascot (Pingo the penguin) and named her fan-base “The Crèche” (which means “Group of baby penguins”).
Trivia:
- Chiara’s design takes inspiration from a variety of tomboish girls in Japanese fiction like Araragi Karen, Satonaka Chie, Kanbaru Suruga, Haru Yuuki (Younger Chiara) and the KPOP idol Song Yuqi from (G)I-dle
- Likes: Monkeys, Penguins (a LOT), Soccer, Reading
- Dislikes: Tigers, Seals, American Football, Celebrating
- She looks like a tomboy, however she isn’t like one
- Her VTuber name is composed by the surname Yuuki (Valiant and valorous in Japanese) and the name Joō (Queen in Japanese, as well). Moreover, Yuuki sounds similar to Yuki, which means Snow, relating her with the frigid environment of Antarctica. \You can hear Hound cringing and swearing in the background, he did not approve this name at all**

2020.11.16 08:32 Annual_Ambassador724 [tomt]What movie is this pls help

I can only remember this scene but there is an Asian actress and an American guy who are in a relationship and the girl ties him to the bed. ( this sounds weird but it was only one scene, it is a romance not a dirty movie) then she gets on top of him and starts to sing. ( here is what I can remember) “your mama don’t know what she don’t see”

SUPER HERO GIRL by Reid Jamieson (celebrating women's voices on the world stage) https://vimeo.com/187205480
Is that the sound of a glass ceiling being broken? This Motown inspired theme song celebrates women’s voices on the world stage. Dedicated to Margaret Sanger, and inspired by Hillary Rodham Clinton, Elizabeth Warren, Malala Yousafzai, Greta Thunberg, Kamala Harris and all the complicated women and girls getting busy turning history into #Herstory. Written (and produced) by Reid Jamieson and his wife Carolyn Victoria Mill. Performed by Reid Jamieson. Featuring Tom Keenlyside on horns. Stay strong. You belong. Sing your song. Kamala Harris will be the first female U.S. vice president, the first African American, the first Asian American and the first Caribbean American to hold the post in U.S. history. She will also be the highest-ranking female elected official in United States history. On a related note: Born on October 20th Kamala shares a birthday with Reido, she lived in Canada for a time, and she wrote a children’s book called ‘Superheroes are Everywhere’. You can't make this stuff up!

2020.11.11 04:19 baydaythrowaway11 27 [M4F] #SF Confident, Handsome and down to earth Dom looking for FWB emphasis on Friend

Hey Bay Area,
I'm a transplant to SF. I'm 6 feet, brown skinned, 420 friendly and DDF, covid free. Super chill and easy to get along with since im very open and understanding and have a huge variety of hobbies.
Big hobbies include:
- Big foodie. Partial towards east asian foods like boba, hotpot, kbbq, dim sum etc.
- Being active, martial arts, bikiong, going on hikes, exploring cities and traveling
- Gaming (PC/Switch/PS4), Always looking for more people for Among us!
- Board games
- Talking about music and finding new songs (and singing)
- Stock Market/Trading
List goes on. I'm usually interested to talk about almost anything.
Sexually I'm a Dom and like submissive girls. I've found people have trouble dealing with the fact that im a very nice passive guy day to day but a rough Dom in the bedroom. Either they can't deal with the contrast or prefer someone who's always the strong Dom. If you that's totally cool but just not the way I am.
If you think we would get along but aren't interested in being a FWB feel free to still hit me up, I'm looking to meet interesting people whether benefits are involved or not.
I'm happy to chat and exchange pics with anyone interested just dont like to post openly on reddit.

2020.11.10 18:42 kh_ftw BUBBLING ASIANS - A short list of upcoming Asian artists I think Popheads would love!

I got heavily inspired by u/KLJohnnes' BLACK GIRLS RISING post from 2 months ago and thought to share some of my favourite new Asian artists from around the world as well. If people like this, I'll find time to write more posts like this!

LINK TO PLAYLIST OF THE ARTISTS BELOW AND MORE!!

---
Jason Yu Singapore Spotify (31k monthly listeners)
With only 3 songs to his name so far, Jason Yu's career has barely begun but within this short time, his debut single "Hearts Release" has already racked up 850k listens while his other songs are so doing pretty well. "Now I Know" is one of my favourite pop ballads of the year too.
You should listen if you like: Ed Sheeran, Shawn Mendes, slow ballads
---
Talitha. Malaysia Spotify (184k monthly listeners)
Arguably the biggest English-language-singing artist of the country (aside from Yuna), Talitha. is nowadays better known for her fitness content on her Instagram than her actual music. However, her pleasant electronic-based pop tunes and earworm hooks shouldn't be overlooked.
You should listen if you like: Hailee Steinfield, dance-pop
---
Rei Japan Spotify (14k monthly listeners)
My favourite Japanese artist right now, Rei was recently nominated for at the MTV EMAs for Best Japanese Act. With a fairly versatile discography, where she can from chill ("Categorising Me"), to hype ("What Do You Want?"), to funk ("My Name Is Rei"). She has a little something for everyone.
You should listen if you like: (I'm at a loss here lmao but her music is very guitar-heavy)
---
Plastic Plastic Thailand Spotify (172k monthly listeners)
I...don't know too much about Plastic Plastic and quick Google searches don't really bring up too much info about the brother-sister duo. Their brand of folk-pop is incredibly relaxing and cheery, feeling like a light morning appetizer in music form.
You should listen if you like: upbeat, happy pop
---
SURL Korea Spotify (96k monthly listeners)
My favourite Korean band, SURL is more indie-rock than they are pop but what really draws me to their music is how addictive their melodies can be. Paired with the nasally-tone of the lead singer's vocals, they're always in my library's constant rotation. "Snow" still remains my fave to this day.
You should listen if you like: math rock but less math and more rock
---
Crispy脆樂團 Taiwan Spotify (38k monthly listeners)
I first came across Crispy on YouTube from a music video of a girl twisting a hula-hoop for 4 minutes straight. Their sound is cute and breezy (much like Plastic Plastic) so if you liked them, you'll like Crispy too.
You should listen if you like: clean electro-pop
---
Three1989 Japan Spotify (90k monthly listeners)
This band blew up thanks to lead vocalist's appearance on the reality show "Terrace House Opening New Doors". Making 80s soul pop-inspired music, it's easy to describe them as city pop with a modern-ish twist.
You should listen if you like: any sort of city pop

2020.11.06 10:58 Ombled_Scromlet Zombie short story

I saw an ad on FB to write a short story about the pandemic, ~5,000 words, so I enquired and it's for this Uni project they are doing. They said I had free reign with content, it could be real, fictional, past, present, future, they also mentioned I could do zombies if I wanted. So I did this piece, and thought I'd drop it here in case someone fancies some undead-based light-reading. Some of the content is pretty British, but hopefully that doesn't detract too much. Submitted for the approval of the Midnight Society: Returned.

The first confirmed sighting was on the 10th of January 2021, a year and a day after the first death of COVID-19. When the Sickness first arrived it was stated that it was a novel virus, but how novel would not be fully known until some time later. The scientists understood that upon infection the virus enters the human cells and multiplies throughout the body, but it was only in the soft-tissue of the lungs where initial trauma was noticed and addressed, and this is where the understanding ended. The most significant symptom were still yet to come After death the virus, utilising the residual chemical energy stores in the body, was able to gestate and develop into something far worse than anybody could have realised. Overriding the amygdala and destroying the ventromedial hypothalamus it mutated the brain beyond recognition, severe oxygen deprivation and muscle atrophy causing unusual physical alterations, and lacking any nutrients the body gradually decomposes. Exactly a year later the body is suddenly reanimated, becoming extremely aggressive, highly volatile, and incredibly infectious, passing their condition within minutes through their saliva. Attacking the public and rapidly spreading across the country, pandemonium became the final new normal. With a complete lack of leadership and direction the country crumbled fast and hard. No end in sight, the numbers of uninfected dropping rapidly, everyone fending for themselves as they try to survive another day from those who had Returned.
Below is the account of one who remained....
23rd July 2021 As Charlotte awoke she made a point of not writhing about too much as the hangover smacked her right in the face, it was unwise to create too much noise, that brings attention and she has become accustomed to not wanting attention. “Happy birthday to me” she sings in her head as she rises to her feet. It was Charlotte's birthday 3 days ago, she didn't realise it had passed. Days, months, and years have become meaningless. Charlotte is a lone survivor of the pandemic, she has not seen another person since roughly April, she believes that there are others out there. She hopes there are other people out there. Other people, uninfected, who she will come across soon. It's been lonely, so fucking lonely. But she still has her memories and her loose grip on hope. Optimism used to mean keeping a smile on your face as you dealt with a minor setback, now it means not taking a blade to the back of your own throat. Sleeping in clothes is a modern day necessity as you never know when you're going to have to get the fuck up and get the fuck out. As she puts on her battered Converse she looks towards the curtains and wonders what's going to be behind them. It isn't time yet to find out. She goes to the kitchen and turns on the kettle, she sees the light. “fucking yes!!!” she whispers. There is still energy, she doesn't know how long this will last though, the gas stopped running months ago. She turns it off just before it bubbles, where it is just hot enough to make the instant coffee she has been saving for when she feels particularly down. She has a sip and tries to force a smile, but its been that long she questions if she still knows how to. Little luxuries do take away some of the sting though. She sits back and picks up her old iPhone, its not charged, but there is no reason why it would be. There hasn't been a connection since January. She examines the cracks and looks at the worn down patch on the back where she and her friends would rack up lines in toilets. She looks, and just remembers.
Charlotte used to spend her morning coffee on her phone, scrolling through social media, blowing up! Dropping comments on her friends posts, sharing here and there, she'd drop selfies if it was a good morning. At the start of the first lockdown she went super-active following Caroline Flack's suicide, with all the posts about how we should use her as a message to make the world a kinder place and how bullying should not be tolerated. She saw potential for real change to happen and she did her bit to help keep it going. That lasted about 2 weeks before the papers were back to slagging off some celebs, randoms kicking off online, and the general mood on her feed to drop. She often thought if this was people just going back to their usual hard-wired shitty ways, or whether the increased unpleasantness was just an early sign of symptoms from the virus. Like when she recalled all those videos of police brutality in the States, they must have had a undiagnosed positive. People can't be that horrific without the Sickness, she hoped. No way of telling, just like most things. So she just shakes it off and goes back to reminiscing. All she can do. This is now her Facebook, Netflix, Instragram, Twitter, WhatsApp, Reddit, Snapchat, Twitch, Linkdin, Tumblr, Pintrest, Deviant Art, and Tinder sometimes when she was drunk and fancied baiting guys into sending dick pics for a laugh.
A few hours go by and she feel ready to open the curtains and check on the state of the nation. Charlotte had set up camp on the nineteenth floor of the Rotunda, and from that height she could clearly see that Birmingham was a shithole. It's gotten even worse since the pandemic. Buildings perpetually on fire, dead bodies littering the streets, some fucking car alarm going off somewhere. She doesn't want to leave the relative safety of the flat but she has ran out of food and one of the perks of living in town is all the abandoned supermarkets. She sighs and makes a move, grabbing her decoy bag and an axe she nicked from B&Q, putting on a mask she made from some mens boxers as she mentally prepares herself for heading out. Disposable masks had long disappeared in the last panic buying rush, something she understood should be panic bought, not like toilet paper. She wondered what the fuck all that was about about? Why would people bulk buy toilet paper in such unreasonable and selfish amounts, massive arseholes! Surely that abhorrent behaviour had to be an early symptom of the virus. There were loads of events Charlotte thought were early symptoms. But she had neither the ability or means to find out if they were so she just leaves them in her passing thoughts. One of the things that really helped Charlotte get this far is that she was all about wearing masks from day 1. She had a firm dislike for those people who said they're exempt just because they couldn't be arsed. That dislike ran even deeper for the gammons who bought an exemption card off Amazon and flashed it with their smug, shit-eating grins. That level of over-preparedness from self-entitled bellends really wound her up. “Ah well” she thought “They ain't smiling no more”. Locking up the door she leaves the flat. once rented to those privileged enough to afford it, now free real estate to anyone unlucky enough to still live, she makes her way downstairs.
She prises the ground floor sliding doors open and makes her way on to the street, checking for any movement. She spots one of those posters that the kids painted in the first lockdown, one with a rainbow and the quote: We're All In This Together. That platitude really grated on her. She thought that was similar to saying that at a gig. “Yeah, we're all in the same room, but our experiences couldn't be more fucking different” she thought. “Some of us are dancing in the back, some are performing on stage, some are behind the scenes keeping things moving, some of us are chatting away paying no attention whatsoever, and some of us are getting crushed to death at the front of the crowd. We might all be in this, but it certainly wasn't together”. Now she feels like the only cleaner at the end of the gig when everyone has gone, all there is is a fucking mess, and there is only the ghost of laughter. When walking though open areas she had to be ever vigilant, eyes constantly darting about. She would step gingerly over the dead in her way, looking for anything she can take that would be of use to her. She'd never hang around them too long, they don't smell great. She would stay well clear of the many burning cars in her path, they have a tenancy to explode unexpectedly. One of her hands would always be on her decoy bag as she made her way around. She noticed that the Returned would only go for the blood of the living. The organs of the Returned expired long ago so they have to consume untainted blood to get nutrients, she guessed. So she would keep a bag of used sanitary pads on her, and if she was being chased, launch it at the floor and when it exploded they would tuck in and she would get away. This was one of her favourite ideas.
Torsos and limbs all down the street like a macabre assault course, Charlotte made her way to B&M Bargains for supplies. She spots a weaponised e-scooter hanging out the window of the Greggs and remembers the people who got way too involved in the cullings. Like the fedora dorks who bought katanas off the internet, they went in head first! All the years of watching anime with no sex life distorted their self-perception and built their battle-lust to this crazy point where they thought they would be slaying with the skills and experience of some pale and pasty Grand Ninja. But enthusiasm didn't translate into efficiency with these poor souls and their hubris saw them off quick, It was brutal. Taking on the hordes as they came, wave after wave like a Call Of Duty side game, there were some that fought the good fight. But eventually everyone's deathclock reaches 00:00:00. There was rumours that the army were going to come, but all hopes were lost 2 months in. No one is coming, she knows that nobody is coming. Looking at the escooter she thinks about taking the daggers, but decides to leave them. Some people prefer baseball bats, some kitchen knives, but Charlotte liked axes. The back can be used as a sledge hammer to break through doors, you can use it to shove away the Returned if you can't swing, and if you can swing the weight of the blade can cut a head clean off and not cause much spatter. Her Mom taught her that.
Getting to B&M bargains she climbs through the shattered windows and basks in the glory of the one thing that hasn't changed. The utter chaos and randomness that is, was, and forever shall be the shelves in B&M. She gets a bag4life and starts her retail therapy. Grabs some of those supernoodles that try to make out that they're authentically Asian, a tube of branded toothpaste, room deodorisers, a bag of frozen petit poi, and a few packs of beef jerky. And for pudding, a Bounty. Those are the only chocolates left in the UK. Luckily she loved Bounties. “ah, a meal fit for a king” she mused as she filled her bag. Frozen, freeze-dried, or instant food is the only kind available nowadays, all the fresh stuff has perished long ago. She never learned how to grow food, and its not like she can get a book on the subject. Books were hard to come by since a Boeing 747 crashed into Waterstones. She didn't even get around to learning how to drive. “Some are born to drive, others are born to be driven” she often quipped. The irony wasn't lost on her. If she could she would drive to the country and try to find somewhere open, somewhere nice in nature. She thinks that would be nice. She thinks that would be good for her. Maybe she could genuinely relax again. But that's not essential right now, what is essential is surviving. And for the time being she can get by, there are still provisions so she wont starve. Not yet.
Looking in the alcohol isle it was nearly bare, there are some lagers but Charlotte wanted something sweet. Her best find there was unicorn flavoured pink gin, she had a party for one that night. The only thing she can find now though is a knock off cider called Strongerbow, 6.4% ABV. She grabs two 4packs, “this beer should do me well tonight” she thought. Getting drunk to ensure a good nights sleep is recommended, the Returned get very noisy at night. It's not known why they are more active at night, it's just one of those stereotypes. Their groans and shrieks carry throughout the city, the thought of their blood-curdling cries sends shivers down her spine. Even though this chills her to the bone she is glad that she can at least feel something rather than nothing. The Returned have calmed down a lot recently, she can still hear them shuffle about, it seems that they are dying off. But she is taking not one fucking thing for granted any more. That's Old-World! Charlotte takes her bag and leaves, using the sanitiser as she exits. She swears by the stuff, and her bottle is running low.
Charlotte makes her own sanitiser herself now, mainly because that's the only way she can get any. Mixing 2 parts rubbing alcohol, 1 part aloe vera gel, and a few drops of tea tree oil is how she makes her favourite blend. She has had the fair share of shit stuff in her time, even used methylated spirits in a pinch. Her hands have aged terribly, sometimes she thinks that her hands look like Theirs. She is pretty sure that she ran out of tea tree oil on the last batch she made, there is some nearby, she goes to grab some. She pops into Boots over a collapsed wall and goes to walk to the counter at the back. As she takes her cautious steps inside she thinks she can hear one, and stops dead in her tracks. She can fucking hear one, there is one inside! “Shit shit shit shit shit” she whispers. She drops the shopping and gets her axe in her right hand and her decoy back in the left. If she could hear more than one she would get the fuck out of there, but one alone she'll “happily” face. She walks on, flicking her sight from left to right and around corners to find where this bastard is. Not too long past the perfume section she sees it, she sees her! An old dear has Returned, possibly in her mid 60s its hard to tell from what's left of her face, but the clothes are a dead giveaway. She is caught in the mechanism at the top of the ascending escalators. “She is trapped. Ha!” she thinks. Charlotte starts approaching the old lady, and she can smell Charlotte. The Returned starts lashing out and trying to reach towards Charlotte with her gnarled hand and bony stump. Charlotte steps a responsible 6 feet away and just stares. Charlotte observes her, the way she moves, the way she bites the air towards her with half a jaw missing. “Poor dumb cunt” she thinks. Charlotte looks into her eyes trying to find a spark. Some resemblance of a spark at least, something to show there is something behind those chilling white eyes. She wonders “Do they think. Do they know what they are doing. Is it just a mindless biological drive, or is that person still inside. Are they watching in horror as their former vessel maims and devours friends and family, feeling a pain far worse than we could possibly imagine”. Hmm, she sighs as she places the back of the axe blade on top of the old lady's head, pushing it to the ground. She puts her foot on ol' Dorothy's back, keeping her pinned to the floor, pulls the axe back like a golf club, whispers “sweet dreams”, takes a swing and severs the neck clean. The learned that one from her Dad.
After the head rolls to a standstill the silence returns. This is one of these rare occasions where the quiet comforts rather than deafens. Charlotte wipes the thick blood from the axe's blade, “it's a fucker to get off once it congeals” she reminds herself. “I wonder if that was someone's nan?” she asks herself emotionlessly. She hasn't always been so stoic, she used to be full of life, but she can't remember when the change happened. She thinks it was sometime during the first lockdown when the numbness came. Charlotte worked in an Irish themed bar & grill in the city, and her job really worked for her. She was an energetic girl and super friendly so hospitality was the ideal sector to work in, and she loved it. But going from working 50+ hours a week, constantly on her feet and talking to new people, to being sat on her arse 24/7 alone, sullenly flicking through the pages of Netflix quietly shiting herself (metaphorically) took its toll. This sudden change of lifestyle and being out of work, even though she was getting her 80%, brought with it a whole fucking bunch of worries. “How long will this last? Will I have a job to go back to? Would I still be able to afford to pay rent? Where will I go if I get evicted? Etc...” This would play on repeat throughout the day until all the concerns and stresses just blended into a nothingness. Depersonalisation she thinks it's called, a term she got from a Google search when she was a bit confused about what going on with her. She did try to hold back from self-diagnosing online, its usually cancer if you ask the internet.
She goes to the section of Boots where the tea tree oil is, grabs it, shoves it in the bag, and makes her way quickly back to the flat. There isn't any point staying out longer than absolutely necessary, “You're playing with fire doing that!” she tells herself. “Some falsely convicted prisoners only used to get 15 minutes outside. So any more time that that is just a bonus” she reasons half heartedly. Cautiously making her way down the what's left of High Street she walks back. She passes the smouldering pile of bricks that was once WH Smiths and she thinks about what current events are going on around the world. Back in the day she always read the news with an ironic disconnect, she though each news source had it's own agenda and allegiance so that always took away the impartiality and made the information bias in her eyes. So she couldn't be fucked with buying into the whole thing. This came to a head in that past year, when news papers still existed. They would all spit out any load of sensational nonsense they could to get the views, and quite often that information would conflict with other sources which added to the public's confusion, she didn't have any more time for it. She would keep a light ear on the global goings on, but take a pinch of salt with everything she heard. “My sodium levels must be through the roof” she often joked, tongue fused in cheek. Did the virus start when some guy ate a bat, did it get created in a Wuhan virology lab, is this God punishing us for all the harm we've done to Mother Nature, it is a liberal hoax, was it that bitch Carole Baskins? Questions that will never find answers. She thought it was ethically irresponsible to debate with only secondhand information. But something she especially couldn't give a toss about was British politics, she saw no virtue or even heard anything close to being earnest and genuinely altruistic from politicians. “They say they want to help buy they just lie and rob people” was her tag-line when discussing politics, something she stole from a South Park meme. She didn't know loads about the whole politics scene, but she knew enough to stay away. She voted once at Uni but didn't enjoy the process and didn't get the results she wanted, so it was never repeated. Politics was a part of the world the left alone long before the Returned came to make the planet theirs. She couldn't help but take note of the odd topic that made it's way across the headlines or common conversation, like when the Tories fought against free meals for children. After the first wave of Returned, when some of the pieces of the bigger picture fell into place, when Charlotte still had a pack of Remained to interact with. She would joke with the other members that this was due to early symptoms and the government was starving the children intentionally because skinny kids taste nicer. However, she did have a more favourable penchant of the politics from our Western colonies. She saw American politics like a terrible soap-opera/car-crash that she couldn't turn away from. Especially over the past 5 years. “How the fuck did that guy get elected??? It beggars belief.” she thought whenever he appeared on TV. When he first came into office she was curious about how crazy things were going to get. She regretted that curio later when things got madder than a box of schizophrenic frogs with mercury poisoning.
The government telling people not to wear masks must have helped rip the plaster off in the long run, even though the plaster took the entire arm off with it. Charlotte wonders sporadically, with morbid curiosity, what it must have been like to see the multiple mass-graves erupt with the Returned. She gets back to the entrance to the Rotunda and slides the doors open and then shut again behind her. That's all she really needs to do to barricade the entrance. The Returned are persistent and strong, but they certainly aren't very smart. They can pound on doors for days eventually breaking it, but put sliding doors in their path and they will bash on them until their hands are nubs and they crumple into permadeath. She makes her way into the staircase and steps over the trip-wires, toy cars, and booby traps she set. Charlotte took heavy influence from the first 2 Home Alone movies. She makes her way to the nineteenth floor as quick as she can. No need to explore on the way, she did that in May and was pleasantly surprised at how many coke dealers used to live in that building that were shit at hiding their stash. She gets back to the flat, closes the doors, and sets the settee in front to weight the door in place. Once she gets her shopping down she goes to the bedroom to complete her going-outside routine. Leaving the building is such an intense experience, she couldn't let her guard down for a second. By the time she gets back her adrenaline is still running strong, heartbeat racing, and her breathing is hard and fast. So to calm herself down and settle her nerves she has a wank.
Once she smokes her post-fap-fag she cracks open her first beer and gets started on dinner. Charlotte has been a smoker since secondary school, but she didn't didn't buy a pack since they went over a tenner a box. She went to vaping for a while, calling herself a "vapist" for jokes. But now she can just brick in a shop window and loot the cigarette counter she found the price of fags very reasonable. She puts her supernoodles in a pan and pours over the near-boiling water, saving some uncooked noodles to crumble on top to give an extra crunch to the meal. She got that trick off Brooklyn 99. She adds the peas for a few minutes, drains, and plates up. Sitting on the sofa she passionatelessly eats her food, taking bites of the jerky every now and again to break up the the blandness. Might have been a shit meal before the Sickness ravaged these lands, but in these unprecedented times it's worthy of a thousand Michelin Stars. “Fuck you, Gordon Ramsey” she thought, for no particular reason, she just thinks that he's a prick. She finishes off the dinner, taking it slow on the Bounty, savouring the texture and flavour. Then she goes with her plate and cutlery to the window, opens it, and fucks the lot outside. There isn't any point cleaning things when she can just go to another flat and rob some more. And it doesn't matter is the china doesn't match, she isn't exactly expecting company. She looks out the window and pays attention to the drop, “that's a fucking long way down” she thinks, “I could end this horse-shit malarkey right now” as she heeds the call of the void. She gazes at the drop and feels the vertigo in her stomach. She always found this sensation tantalising rather than alarming. But she isn't going out like that. That's not how this is going to end. “If bad times are coming let them fucking come” she whispers to herself firmly as she dismisses that thought.
She has some old magazines and books she could read, she has an acoustic guitar she could practice on, if modern games consoles didn't need an internet connection to work she could play on them. She just couldn't be arsed to do anything, just a serious case of the chronic CBAs. Other than the bare necessities, the simple bare necessities, there was no allure in engaging in recreational activities. She tried exercising, but she found that boring. The last time she tried to do a sit up she stopped after the third one and took a nap. Something she did get into was meditation “beats sitting around, doing fuck all” she thought. This helped calm her and killed about half an hour of the day. Most of the evening she would spend just pottering between rooms, sitting as she saw fit, staring at the smoke-stained walls, sipping on her cans, thinking of the times before. Like when she would get together with pals and go through the stages of the average night out; pre-game at someone's place while she gets dolled up, cocktails at Brindley Place, club, after-party at a Hurst Street, after-after-party at a random's place, and then spending the rest of Sunday seshin' across Brum with friends. What she wouldn't give to be with her crew at a Spoons passing the bag between them and ducking off the the bogs for a top up. Being chatted up by some simp and getting a drink for nothing more than having to listen to his weak game. Buying something that can't legally be classified as food from that booth on Broad Street and getting hot sauce on her dress, standard. She knows that this time is behind her, but it doesn't hurt to indulge in the fantasy that they might come back again. She wishes she could just pick up the phone and call her parents, talk to them for a while, see how they are doing. But she knows exactly how they're doing, because she killed them.
The first people she packed with was her parents, they managed to last a few weeks together together before they got overran and separated by the Returned at the Edgbaston Reservoir. The onslaught came fast and her parents didn't make it out before they got flanked. She didn't see them again until some time later when she saw them Returned on Bearwood High street, still together. It was fucking horrible for her seeing them this way. Clothes in tatters, chunks of their flesh torn and gangrenous, dead expressions, both dragging their feet as they walk. She didn't want to do it, but she had to. There is no chance she would let her family be degraded like this. A running swing ended their suffering sharp. That specific memory stops Charlotte in her tracks a few times a day. But as Thanos said “The toughest decisions require the strongest wills”. A justification she adopted to make the memory even slightly bearable. She snaps out of the gaze and walks to the bedroom. Looking at the pictures on the wall of people she didn't know smiling with friends who she'll never meet, she tries to borrow some of their bliss. She can't. She looks at pictures of beautiful landscapes and tries to imagine that they are windows to what uncorrupted pleasantness may lay outside. She cant. She walks past a mirror she faced the other way, she stopped looking in mirrors long ago. There isn't anybody she recognises in there any more. She sits at the edge of the bed and goes back to pondering, hoping that she will remember something that will nudge her into a more positive outlook. Charlotte was pretty good at rolling with the punches, her life has never been sunshine and rainbows, but she is having trouble coming up with something happy right now. She lies back on the bed and for a bit of a change she stares at the ceiling instead of the wall. She looks at the all the cobwebs and the spiders crawling between. She is 95% sure that spiders can't get the 'rona, so she just leaves them be. They are especially handy at the moment, with all the festering that's going on outside in the summer heat there are flies all over the place, and the spiders are certainly getting their fill. She watches a daddy-long-legs slowly make it's way across the room as she finishes her last beer she can feel her eyelids start to get heavy and she yawns softly. “Yeah, probably time to call it a day” she thinks as she tucks herself in. “Today was as good as they get, I'm still alive and didn't get hurt. And tomorrow is another day”. The final sentence used to hold an opportunity that things could get better, life may improve, that happiness could be pursued and possible attained. Now its just another promise of guaranteed loneliness and isolation. She tells herself the same thing every night “Guess it is what it is, let's fucking 'ave it” before she falls into a slumber without dreams. Those stopped long ago.

2020.11.05 11:38 aStaleCheeto Anyone want to type me? (long, sorry)

Hi y'all! I've gotten more into MBTI lately as a fun little distraction from the generally....unsavory things going on in the world. I've taken the 16 personalities test at various points in my life, and have gotten a different result every time, so I'm curious about what you all would think. Now that I've researched MBTI more, I also realize that 16 personalities isn't as thorough when it comes to evaluating functions so I'd love more insight into that as well!
In case it's helpful, when I first took the test around age 13/14-ish I got ENFP, ENFJ at age 16/17-ish, ENTJ at 18, and ENTP pretty consistently now with the occasional ENTJ depending on what test I take.
Describe yourself in as much elaborate detail as possible (that still renders you anonymous, or to a level of acceptable comfort)
I'm a 20 year old girl who's currently an undergrad. I'd describe myself as a curious, very bookish kind of person who loves creative and intellectual pursuits. I have a lot of interests, but unfortunately am more of a jack-of-all trades, master of none kind of person. Some of those interests include reading, writing, film, art (both its history and drawing), music (I play violin, piano, sing mediocrely, have been teaching myself how to compose/arrange, and spend way too much time on my Spotify playlists), video games, experimental cooking (as much as my limited skill will allow), fashion, and honestly probably a ton more things I'm just forgetting now. I'd say I'm an introvert-leaning ambivert. Most of the time I prefer to be alone at home, but I also like meeting new people and sometimes feel more energized after a lot of social interaction, though it is equally likely that I'll feel exhausted halfway through a party and want nothing more than to go home.
Why are you interested in knowing your type?
A ton of reasons! On a surface level, personality tests are really fun no matter how stupid or deep they are. I'm a creative writer, and understanding and psychoanalyzing people (though I hate saying that because, like, psychoanalysis is an actual thing, not just something pretentious teenagers claim to do) is something I do constantly, sometimes without even realizing, because I'm always exploring new characters. I even (as creepy as it is) create like...secret personality "profiles" for my friends and the people I know?? With their strengths and weaknesses and constantly update it as I learn more about them?? I promise it's not for nefarious purposes, it's just really interesting.
On a more personal level, I'm honestly constantly questioning everything about my life, from every facet of my surroundings to everything about myself and who I am. I feel this insecurity about what my identity really is versus what I've just manufactured in order to respond to my surroundings. I feel like I have multiple personalities and it just gets annoying sometimes lol like I feel like I'm a mess of contradictions and I want some clarity. Also, quarantine and corona have given me some serious identity crises which have exacerbated the angst of all of these questions. I'm constantly trying to fix myself and ascend to a better version of myself, whoever she is.
Do you go to work and/or you in school? If so, what field/occupation/subjects?
I'm an Economics major with minors in History and Math. My dream is to get a PhD and go into academia.
Describe your upbringing. Did it have any kind of religious or structured influence? How did you respond to it?
I was a single child for most of my childhood until my brother was born when I was 10. I had a very international childhood, living in four different countries before I turned 7, then moved to America where I've been ever since. My parents were very strict and traditional Asian parents, and but weren't as authoritarian as some, or as the stereotype would suggest. They definitely held me to high standards, but I was also afforded a lot of privileges and opportunities when it came to developing my intellectual and artistic capabilities. I was a very filial child and kind of a pushover when it came to my parents to avoid any sort of conflict. I was also very independent -- I mostly took care of school and college applications completely by myself.
Do you need logical consistency in your life?
Definitely. I'm excited by seemingly logic-breaking things (like in science or math) but the excitement comes from recalibrating my existing understanding of logic systems to accommodate the new information.
How curious are you? Do you have more ideas then you can execute? What are your curiosities about? What are your ideas about?
DEFINITELY more ideas than I can execute. I have a 14 page long document of ideas for projects and new initiatives (or just random ideas) that I've never gotten around to. My ideas are mostly about creative things like my novels or film/art/music (over summer break I got really into traditional Celtic music without any reason at all and made some Celtic inspired covers of Appalachian folk songs?), or relating to my intellectual interests, which mostly lie in socioeconomics or philosophy questions. I've wanted to do a billion projects relating to these things like a Youtube channel, multiple blogs, online magazines, essay collections, research papers (for funsies!), etc, but again, have never gotten around to most of it hahaha.
If money was not an issue, what careejob would you have?
Some sort of public academic. I'd love to just write and research all day, but have my words actually make a positive impact. I'm a bit of an activist, but the only activism I trust is that which is backed by facts and research, and I don't feel satisfied until I've done the research myself. I'm a little egotistical in that I would not mind at all if fame were part of the deal. I also would love to drop everything and write fantasy novels all day in the quiet English countryside, but I know that after five years of doing that I'd go crazy and feel like I need to more integrated with the world (not just in terms of seeing people but like having my actions really impact the world).
Are you a free spirit or do you play by the rules? If so, why?
Depends on the rules. I'm not exactly an anarchist, but I'm always thinking of how to change the rules in place.
If I asked you to take a shot with a football how would that make you feel? Would you be able to do it well? Would you enjoy it?
HAHAHAHAHAHA definitely not.
If I asked you to write me an essay, would you enjoy it? What would it be about? How would it make you feel?
I would enjoy it while writing it, but I'm a TERRIBLE procrastinator so it'd feel like hell up until the second I actually start it lmao. Making a good argument backed by evidence you KNOW is solid is such an adrenaline rush though so fuck yeah baby.
Is it okay to crack a few eggs? If it makes an omelette? Do the ends justify the means?
I'd say I agree with "the ends justify the means" about 75% of the way, but at a certain point if the means are too egregious, then the process by which you've gotten to the end taints the end itself.
Do you put things back in their proper place?
Like half the time, depends on what. I'm honestly pretty chaotic when it comes to organization, but also, it's like ordered chaos, like I wouldn't throw x on my bed with y, clearly x has to be thrown onto the floor with z (and neither x, y, nor z are in their proper places).
How do you behave around strangers, acquaintances and friends?
Strangers -- I feel very fake, all the time, and I don't really like it, but it means I am able to present as much more charming and socially competent than I really am (I'm probably screaming inside, or at least feel supremely awkward). People have told me that their first impression of me is that I'm very bubbly, energetic, warm, and open, when I'm actually very closed off and definitely not as peppy as they think. I laugh way more than I actually feel amused or happy.
Acquaintances -- My more chaotic self will probably come out. I have a very dark sense of humor that surfaces here. I'm much more sarcastic. I consist solely of irony and absurdism. Don't take anything I say seriously. But also, at this stage I'm still not comfortable enough to be comfortable with you so there will still be a fair amount of small talk, which I hate but I won't know how to get out of. I feel like I'm good at handling people but terrible at making friends, in that I'm clueless on how to actually become close to acquaintances. I'll still be a little fake and cringe at myself for it.
Friends -- At first glance, it seems like I'm less friendly with my friends simply because I don't feel the need to be superficial anymore. I'll be a lot quieter and less willing to talk if I don't feel like it (whereas for an acquaintance I might force myself to have the conversation). Even with my closest friends I don't really like sharing personal things or talking about my emotions, so there isn't a whole lot of that, but I'll do things for them without really mentioning it like tucking in my roommate and pausing her Netflix whenever she falls asleep without meaning to (it happens a lot). If I like the person, I can not talk to them for a whole year but still feel just as close to them when we do get the chance to see each other.
Even though I don't really enjoy socializing, there's a weird voice in me that makes me feel like I need to be constantly making more friends? I get massive FOMO and feel like I'm wasting away my youth if I'm not meeting the most people / experiences as possible. But also, in most conversations I feel like I carry in terms of energy and conversation, which is exhausting, and when I meet someone who's more socially competent than I am and I don't need to do that, then I can have a really great time and genuinely enjoy spending time with them.
Do you have exquisite tastes that you would expend effort or money for?
I like to think I have a good eye for certain things, but I think it's stupid to spend money on expensive things if it's not necessary. I do really prize high quality, though, and appreciate the finer things in life like good food and nice clothes.
How do you act when others request your help to do something (anything)? If you would decide to help them, why would you do so?
Depends. I get very easily annoyed if I sense that it's an unequal relationship; I often get the feeling that I'm only valued for what I can do for people so that's kind of a pet peeve of mine (like nerdy-kid-in-group-project syndrome but all the time). However, if a friend needs me then I'm more than happy to help, especially if they're going through a hard time -- then it's no questions asked from me. You need money for an Uber, a place to crash, anything, and I'm there, unless maybe if it takes up a lot of my time and I'm super busy, but if the need is great then it's still no questions asked. I also prioritize trying to be as helpful of a boss as I can be in my leadership positions. It's really important to me that my employees feel supported. Besides not wanting to be an asshole, I know that they get more done when they're less burnt out.
How long do you take to make an important decision? How would you go about it? And do you change your mind once you've made it?
I'm very indecisive, and I'll probably run my brain around in circles thinking of the what-ifs of alternative choices. I can spend hours agonizing over a single decision. Even for inconsequential things like the kind of soap I should buy -- I can't decide until I've read as many reviews as I can and compared ten different comparable soaps until I find the best one. I make a lot of spreadsheets.
If I asked you to design a plan of action, would it be easier to work alone or in a group? Do you ask for others opinion? or stick to your own guns?
I like to be the leader of a group. I like hearing different ideas, but it's always easier if I just organize everyone.
A weekend best spent looks like ...?
Friday night: go out with friends to a party, make some new acquaintances, come back to my apartment late in the night and talk about anything and everything until 5 am.
Saturday: Go explore something by myself, whether it's the city or something in nature.
Sunday: Stay home alone, journal/write/read, watch a movie, bake a cake, pamper myself with a long bath, work on a fun side project, sleep a lot
My biggest fears are ...
Being inconsequential or average. A life of monotony that will have meant absolutely nothing at the end of it. Not living up to my expectations and then hating myself forever.
How much do you express yourself and what mediums do you do that through? Art? Writing? Talking?
All of the above haha. When I feel up to it, I can talk for hours without stopping. Writing is my favorite form of expression because I feel like I can present my thoughts most effectively that way.
Generally where do you lean politically? Is it every man for himself? Should people be pragmatic? Does the government need to step in and help people?
Very left, pretty much a communist. But I like to think I'm less unforgiving than a lot of my fellow leftists. I believe in reaching across the aisle and dislike identity politics and liberals. I think a revolution is necessary but would always push for a peaceful one. Violent revolutions don't build lasting institutions. Lol, like that's realistic though.
People should be pragmatic. I genuinely think it's more pragmatic rather than idealistic for the government to step in and help people. I have a pretty low opinion of human nature so I think that every man is naturally "for himself", but it logically makes more sense for us to construct institutions that overcome those base instincts if we want to survive -- thrive, even -- as a species.
Does it matter if something is factually correct for you to believe in it?
90% of the time. I'm wary of believing in anything unless it's factual. However, I think we have to examine what we mean when we say "factually correct", since our current state of human understanding is so limited that there's a wealth of things we can't verify to be factually correct with what we know at the moment. I'm willing to entertain more spiritual, wishy-washy things by thinking of them as potentially factual in the hypothetical scenario where we would have the capacity to understand it in a scientific way. So like I could "believe" in anything if you asked me to, like magic, astrology, whatever, but only in a way that fits them into a logic system instead of accepting the "magical" aspect of it (in that they happen "just because". Like no, there has to be a logical reason for it, even if we don't understand the logic at the moment).
Are emotions/feelings an important aspect of your life? If so, then why?
I try not to let them dominate my day-to-day life since they usually make things harder LOL. I can get emotional depending on the situation, but I usually don't make decisions based on my feelings.
How attached are you to reality?
What even is reality dude. Literally nothing is real
Okay, no, like I'm attached enough to feel like I have a stake in it and want to actively better the world. But also, life is so absurd and meaningless that like, I don't know, I feel like I'm constantly dissociating.
How thick skinned are you? Are you sensitive to criticism?
If I respect the person giving criticism, then yes, very much so. I'm very self-critical so if someone else is adding to that it makes it worse, of course. I can have a lot of self-doubt at times.

I just spent a LOT of time on that when I should have been studying so YIKES but if anyone has insights I'd be very interested in hearing them :)))

Below are the results of a multispectral matching operation across multiple ciphers, against my dictionary files - the closest matching spells to the word 'domination'. Following after are a similar set of results, but the latter matches are performed against my custom hand-entered lexicon files (ie. personal spellbook). The purpose of these result-sets is to examine the possibility of 'manufactured words', ie. the possibility that the lexicon is a structure encoded with intent, and contains numerically-indexed semantic association (ie. an enciphered mind-map). From another perspective, regardless of the truth of that hypothesis, all these spells listed below might - to persons of a certain mindset, perception or psychology, and to various degrees - represent, reflect, or oppose (in some fashion or other), the notion of 'domination'.
For example, a kabbalist movie scriptwriter might pick names and traits for his evil mastermind character from the list below (or derive them from anagrams thereof), in order to subtly encode the character's name with the intent he has for that character.

Custom hand-entered lexicon files matches (out of 150,0000 entries from headlines, article text, comments, and my own stream of consciousness spell-entry (ie. the database into which go all my gematria calculations you see in my main writings). These are mostly in original entry order within each match-category (my program that performs these matches intentionally does not sort the final results alphabetically) Some of the results represent experimentation with spell augmentations, and other weirdness, and might not make much sense out of context. The capitalization is not consistent, as I often enter a spell multiple times, each time with differing capitalization to test how it affects the bacon cipher results Spells that are capitalized appear in italics, regardless of whether they are proper nouns or not.:

Four days ago I made this stub page, ...
... which contains, as one of only two "non-numeric" themed spells, "A Super Typhoon"
Today, the press provides an answer and contribution:
https://www.wired.com/story/what-is-a-super-typhoon-and-why-are-they-so-dangerous/
What Is a Super Typhoon, and Why Are They So Dangerous?
Massive storms like Goni, which hit the Philippine islands on Sunday, could be a glimpse of our future.
  • "Massive storms" = 644 primes 3,322 squares ( "Rain" = 322 trigonal )
We also see that:
  • "Massive storms" = 1,365 jewish-latin-agrippa
  • ... ( "The Source" = 365 primes )
ie. 365 days in a year, which prompts thoughts of solar storms.
  • "A Storm of the Sun God" = 911 jewish-latin-agrippa
  • "The Storm of a Sun God" = 911 jewish-latin-agrippa
  • ... ( "The Sun God" = 1,777 squares )
Let's answer their question with itself:
Q: What Is a Super Typhoon, and Why Are They So Dangerous
"A: What Is a Super Typhoon, and Why Are They So Dangerous" = 911 primes
  • "The Whirlwind Empire" = 1776 trigonal 3333 squares 680 primes
... and the Whirlwind is the Empire.

2020.11.04 03:05 Maddox_Hendrick_Lake The Price of Attrition, Chapter III

“Hey there son, can I have a look at your ballsack?” Jack said in an abnormally deep voice.
“Shut the fuck up, man.” I sighed.
“I can’t believe that fucking happened!” Connor chuckled, “Did you have to turn your head and cough?”
“You guys are acting like children.”
“We ARE children.” Jack said.
“Where are Matt and Derek?”
They both shrugged.
“Beats me. Let’s go check out the Visitors Center. Maybe they’re in there…” Said Connor.
We headed inside in search of the two of them, but they quickly got distracted staring at the model reconstruction of Ancient Jerusalem. They also INSISTED that we take a quick visit to that big white statue of Jesus on the second floor that's so nicely contrasted against a mural of the galaxy. Trouble was that we got caught in a tour, and so it ended up lasting more time than I had wanted. See, the last time I had been there was with my dad, and after just a few moments of sitting on the benches listening to the intercom broadcast about Joseph Smith and the Sacred Grove I already found myself wanting to get up and leave.
When I was little, my dad had had a picture of that statue sitting on the mantle of our fireplace that I often found myself staring at when I was bored. There was something about the way the white statue contrasted that blue and purple background that had a special effect on my little mind. “We'll go there someday. I promise. It's really wonderful.” He told me. Of course by the time we actually went I was nine, and I didn't really care anymore. I had been impatient and bratty the entire time we were in the Visitors Center and ruined the whole experience. It was the last time I was ever going to go on a trip like that with my dad, and I had completely spoiled it.
But anyways... we couldn't leave until the broadcast was over, since they take people up there in tours. I was so anxious to go by the time it was done that I didn't even bother going down to the basement where I knew I'd find a globe with copies of the Book of Mormon in various different languages. That had been the most interesting thing about the building when my parents brought me there years earlier, but I didn't care – not this time. My friends might have been using the opportunity to flirt with tourists, but Temple Square was just bad memories for me, and I couldn't wait to leave after we got out of the Visitors Center.
Fortunately, the mood picked up when Jack, the self-proclaimed Great Auk (he was very self-conscious about the size of his nose), met some Italian tourists, as opposed to sister missionaries, outside. By that, I mean one of these two girls flung one of the metal doors to the entrance in his face by accident, and ended up giving him a bloody nose. “Cazzo!” She said, “Are you ok? I’m so sorry!”
He was still holding his nose when he said, “Yeah, yeah I’m ok. Don’t worry.”
The trouble with that statement was that blood started to drip down over his mouth and onto the floor just as he said it.
“Oh my god! Let me help you! Put your head up!” She told him before looking at her friend, “Arianna, potresti andare al bagno per un po’ di carta?”
“Certo.” The other one said.
Of course, none of us had any idea what they were saying, but Connor and I found ourselves back to the bathroom with the other girl, all three of us eventually returning with enough paper towels to stop a rhinoceros’s nosebleed. By the time we got back, Jack had caused quite a scene, and there was a small crowd gathering there in the entry way to make sure he was alright as the blood was running down his neck and onto his chest. The girls however, and one of them proceeded to wipe the blood off of him while the other crinkled some paper towels to stuff in BOTH of his nostrils, as they were both bleeding. Despite the fact that he was visibly injured though, he was also visibly enjoying the attention. I’m not sure if he’d ever had that kind of attention from a couple of girls of their caliber, or girls at all, really.
“What’s your name?” She asked him as she replaced the first set of paper towels she had stuffed up his nose.
“Jack… what about you?”
“Jack? Really?” She said, almost as if she were making fun of him.
“Yeah, why?”
“I don’t know, it’s just… Jack is a name you don’t think is anybody’s real name. It’s a… a name you hear in movies.”
“Well, it’s short for Jacob Calloway.” He laughed.
“Jacob Calloway…” she smiled at him, “… my name is Arianna de la Cerva.”
“Nice…” He smiled back, “… I mean… that’s a really hot… fuck.”
The other one laughed.
“Arianna, che vuol’ dire?” She asked.
“I think he means to say I have a very pretty name.” Arianna said, looking right in Jack’s blue eyes.
“Yeah, yeah that’s what I meant. Sorry…” He was acting awkward, but I also noticed he seemed completely transfixed by her face.
Hell, I think we all were. They were kinda gorgeous. Both of them were both kind of hippy-ish, but even I could appreciate their very apparent good looks. Arianna, was a gorgeous pale brunette with hazel eyes who almost seemed to embody the archetype of a model for some fancy Italian clothing line. Her friend was a redhead… but not like our redheads. She was definitely beautiful, but she had big brown eyes, freckled-skin, a perfectly shaped Mediterranean nose and lips that even the most flamboyant faggot wouldn’t mind kissing on a dare.
“What’s your name? I’m sorry.” I said to the redhead.
“Francesca Edera.”
Do Italians always introduce themselves with their last names? Is that a thing?
“Nice to meet you, I’m Trynian.” I held out my hand to shake hers. She reciprocated.
“Winslow…” Jack said, seemingly trying to keep up the trend of introducing ourselves with our full names.
“Yeah,” I nodded, “Trynian Kenneth Colter Winslow.”
“That’s a lot of names!” Arianna laughed before looking at Connor, “What’s your name?” Arianna asked, looking at Connor.
He froze up again. It was kind of adorable.
“Ummm… I’m…”
“His name is Connor Stanfield.” I said, before things got too awkward.
“Nice to meet you.”
Just as everybody was finishing shaking hands, I heard a familiar voice.
“My oh my… what have we hear?” Derek said, holding the door open, “Hello there, ladies. What can I do you for?”
I thought he sounded like an idiot, but for whatever reason neither Arianna or Francesca seemed to think the same way. Francesca smiled shyly at the ground, that way that women do when they’re being hit on by an especially ravishing fellow, while Arianna met him with a lifted eyebrow and a smile that was less pronounced but still alluring.
“This is my stepbrother…”
“Derek.” He said.
“I’m Matt! Hi…”
Matt wasn’t always the best at starting conversations with girls he was attracted to, but he was usually pretty good at keeping them going.
“Matt Kooter.” Jack laughed.
“It’s Couderc.” Matt corrected him, seemingly making sure to pronounce his last name as exotically as possible.
“Is that French?” Francesca asked.
Here we go…
“No, actually… no it isn’t. It’s Occitan.”
“Like… Occitania?”
Wait, how does she know that? I mean, thank god she does.
“Yeah, actually.” He sighed and smiled with relief, “You’re the first person I’ve ever met that I didn’t have to explain that to.”
“Francesca, cos’è questo?” Arianna said, almost whispering.
“È uno degli dialetti francesi, come bolognese.”
“It's actually its own language... but yeah.” He said.
“It's ok.” Said Arianna, “We're from Bologna. We have our own dialect, or… language there too. Nobody really speaks it anymore. That's so interesting, though. Most Cajuns we met in Louisiana didn't speak any French... and you only speak… Occitan... is it?”
“Yeah... well... there's a few of us.” He shrugged.
“Have you ever been to France?” Francesca asked.
Matt shook his head.
“Nope. Never.”
“Wooow.” She looked at Arianna and then looked back at him, “That's really cool though.”
“We speak it at home. It's my first language.”
“Really? Not English?”
“I didn't speak English until I started going to school as a kid...”
“That's sooo interesting.” Why is that interesting? “So many young people in Italy barely speak any dialect at all...”
This was cool and everything, but what did the guys intend to do with two girls? If all parties concerned were going to lose their virginity, we needed three... right? I immediately started to scold myself for having my mind so deep in the gutter…
“And, where are you all from?”
“We’re from Washington. He's not.” I gestured at my stepbrother.
They seemed to be a lot more taken by him than they were any of us, but then, they were obviously closer to his age than ours.
“I'm from California.” He said.
“And... how old are you all?” She asked.
We all said 'eighteen' at the same time. Derek waited until we were done to say he was twenty-four, and to correct the record.
“They’re sixteen… except for Trynian. Trynian’s fifteen.”
“Dude!” We all said at the same time.
The girls just laughed, though.
“You're all so yoooung!” Arianna smiled, “But so handsome.” She reached out and pinched my cheek like I was a little kid.
“Trynian's gay...” Jack coughed.
Guess somebody needed to get that out of the way. Arianna looked a little bit uncomfortable, like she thought Jack had made a gay joke.
“I am.” I told her, trying to salvage the situation for my friends.
“Really?” She seemed surprised, “You don't look like a gay.”
“Awe!” Francesca pinched other cheek, “All the more reason to pinch his cheek!”
I never quite understood why women thought being gay was so 'cute'.
“Are all of you gay...?”
“NO!” Everyone else answered as quickly as possible, “No, we're not.”
The girls laughed. They had the three of them, and arguably the four of them when you included my stepbrother, wrapped tightly around their fingers already... and they knew it. I kind of thought it was a little pathetic, really. There was a lot of complaining back then about men supposedly viewing women as nothing more than sex objects, but that street went two ways in more ways than just one. While the topic of their age never really came up, anyone could tell that the girls were quite a bit older, maybe even older than Derek, but… probably not. How many guys had these two been with on their trip across the country? A few, I guessed. And they definitely could've had pretty much anyone they wanted, their own age, or a lot older. But guys in their twenties might have been a little harder to get, and my friends at 16, still in high school and ready for some action... they were easy pickings. They were playing Jack, Connor, and Matt like little fiddles. The guys of course thought it was the other way around, but sitting as the third party observer, well... it definitely wasn't.
We spent the rest of the day with them. We toured the Joseph Smith Building, then we checked out City Creek, which had apparently been built in place of the old ZCMI Mall that I remembered from my trip there with my parents. The girls felt obligated to spot everyone’s dinner based on the circumstances under which we met, but since I was the one contributing the least amount of money to the trip, I stood firm on the ground that I had to pay, and I did for everyone but Jack. I regretted it as well, cuz we ate at a place that was more than a little outside what the range of what I expected to pay called BRIO Tuscan Grill and then desert at The Cheesecake Factory. I was actually very surprised at the girls' behavior the entire day though. Every time I went to pay for something, they offered to pay for themselves, or split the bill. Not only did they gorge themselves on the food I bought as well, but they hadn't a word to say about the calories or how it was going to go straight to their asses. Or at least... not in English. There were a few Italian dialogues between the two of them that none of us really understood, but I don't think that's what they were talking about. They were SUPER chill. They were down to do pretty much whatever, and seemed to be going out of their way to make everyone feel comfortable and entertained. Their humor was... a little bit different for sure, what with Arianna’s joke about a deer with no eyes and its sequel about a deer with no eyes and no legs, but they were, all things considered, a lot of fun to hang out with.
The Twilight Series Concert happened to be going on that week, which... well, that was certainly something I didn't expect. There was this odd stereotype floating around in those days that Salt Lake City was some sort of a rural backwater. In fact, I distinctly remember people referring to places like Salt Lake on the national news stations as a ’fly over' location that year, which was an election year. I of course knew better; I was raised in the 'fly over' portion of the United States, but for some reason, when I thought of a vibrant big city, I thought of Seattle, Portland, or San Francisco. But, the Twilight Series Concert was like any other concert you'd expect to see in a hipster city like Seattle or San Fran. It was absolutely fuckin' packed with the most gorgeous people ever. It was almost as if they had sent the tickets out by invitation to beautiful people only. I also found it to be somewhat remarkable how many of the people fit the stereotype of the gorgeous blonde that once dominated people's views of the population of California when my parents were my age. Blondes, blondes, blondes, and more fucking blondes. There were of course some Polynesians, Latinos, and Asians as well, but it seemed like everyone who could be classed as White was a blonde, or maybe a dirty blonde. It was also funny how many people we met that had German last names. In Washington, it seemed like English, Irish, and Scottish last names were the most common by far. But Utah, or at least Salt Lake City, was almost like Little Germany - except without the wiener schnitzel. Scharnhorst, Becker, Bauer, Richter, Mahrt, Wagner, Meier, Hartmann, Weiss, Hoffmann, Wolf, Lehmann, Lang, Mueller, Beck, Hahn, Schubert, Albrecht, Brandt, Sommer. I half-expected to see someone in lederhosen, but I didn't. Just a bunch of really hot guys, most of whom had taken off their shirts because of the heat.
It was so packed with people that you could actually barely move, and the music seemed like it was a mile away. When we got to it, at long last, it was some lame hipster band singing I could barely make out. Or, maybe it was that they were just too dumb to remember? I don’t know. There was a lot of art though, and the art was actually pretty cool. I remember this one lady painted typical scenes of nature with random duels between Boba Fett and a Tyrannosaurus rex [7]. Her art was unfortunately a little too pricey, especially after I had spotted dinner. The girls loved it, which, I thought was pretty cool. A lot of the girls in high school had been too snobby for something like that, and so this whole adult scene where people could release their inner nerd was a little bit odd for me. I was still really used to hiding the fact that I spent hours on end reading about biology and history and writing alternate history timelines. But then, when I think about it, high school was really just a giant dick measuring contest where stupid people were somehow popular, so... yeah.
“Do you guys smoke?” Arianna asked as we lounged next to an art stand where Jack was looking through paintings with Francesca while Derek flirted with the artist. He seemed to be feeling like quite the lady’s man.
“Cigarettes?” Connor seemed confused.
Arianna laughed.
“No...”
“Oh...” He smiled at her, “Yeah. But not here. It's not legal here.”
The correct answer to that question was no. The only time any of had ever smoked weed before was with Derek after my mom found out I was gay, and it was in the privacy of his apartment.
“So?”
“So... we don't have any...” He looked down at the ground, a little disappointed.
“I do.” And then she pulled out a fucking Mierschaum pipe. Right there, in God's eyes...
“Whoa...” I laughed, “Where’d you get that? From Sherlock Holmes?”
“From Dr. Watson, actually.” She winked at me as she searched her backpack for her weed.
I was more than a little nervous about getting caught. It was the summer of 2012, and while there was a bunch of discussion of the legalization of marijuana, that wasn’t going to metastasize for another few months. It was only legal for medical use, and even then only in a hand full of places. I knew you had to have a proscription from your doctor, and that you had to be 21, and I... well I kind of obviously wasn't 21. That was in fact the reason we had compromised with the fake IDs saying we were 18, there was just no way in hell any bouncer worth his salt was going to let me in a 21-and-up club. None of that stopped her, though. She pulled out a baggy with five nugs of some very strange, frosted-looking weed, each one easily the size of my thumb, and commenced breaking one up and loading it in the bowl. She even offered one of us greens, but I was a little too scared to take the first hit, and so I said I'd go last while I surveyed the surrounding crowd for cops. Connor took a nice long hit, and he, like most people our age did, tried to hold it in his lungs to maximize the effect.
“Don't!” Arianna laughed, “You don't have to hold it in...”
“You don't?” Connor said, smoke puffing out of his mouth and nose as he spoke.
“No. That's how you ruin your lungs.”
“Really?” Matt tilted his head, perplexed, “That's a relief...”
Indeed. I thought to myself, suddenly reminded of how he and Connor had practically choked to death the only other time we had smoked. Connor promptly passed the pipe to Matt, and Matt acted like he didn't know how to smoke so Arianna would help him.
“Put your thumb on the carb like this.” She instructed him. Then she lit the bowl.
Matt only inhaled for a couple of seconds before he started coughing up smoke. I was a little afraid that the noise of his coughing was gonna draw attention, especially with all the common stereotypes about the area. We got a couple of looks, but to my surprise, most of those were smiles. One guy even said: “Smells delicious.”
Then came my turn. I was still pretty nervous, but seeing the positive reactions from the people around us helped. I suppose I was more nervous about acting like an idiot, since I’d only ever done it the one time, and I had forgotten how to speak English, so I ran around speaking Polish to everyone instead.
“I'll pass.” I said as Matt handed the pipe to me.
“Dude, come on. Don't be gay.”
“He is gay!” Arianna chuckled.
Anxious, I took the pipe in my hand and lit up my first hit. I had this stupid feeling that as soon as I had had some of the weed that a cop was going to show up and ruin all the fun. Fortunately my paranoia was just that, and quickly faded as the almost chocolatey-mint smoke sent a relaxing sensation throughout the whole of my body. Immediately it seemed, my head felt so light that it could've floated off my shoulders, and I was rooted to the spot. I'm still not entirely sure what kind of weed that was; all I can tell you with certainty was that it looked frosty, and it was good.
“Well then...” I said, squinting my eyes lazily, “... that, madam, was a proper hit.”
The three of them laughed.
“Already?” She seemed surprised as I offered her the pipe.
“Already...” I nodded.
“He’s had the pipe for like, five minutes…” Connor laughed.
Has that much time gone by already?
As soon as I looked back up at her, I noticed a very large black dog seated in behind in the distance next to a tree. It was silhouetted against the orange light as it came down through the branches, and there was something about the look of it that seemed… off. It was large, but thin, emaciated even, with enormous, almost bat-like ears, a long snout and short hair. Not sleek like a doberman, but still short enough that its hair didn’t seem to add any extra weight to it. A sudden stinging pain raced through my chest, and I swear I could hear a faint jingling sound, but when my eyes returned to hers it all stopped.
“Is this... is this laced with something?”
“I don't think so. Why?”
“Where'd you buy it?”
“In Denver...” She squinted her eyes almost suspiciously at me, but I was still keeping my eyes locked on hers for fear of focusing on the silhouette I could still see in the background.
Oddly enough, as soon as I looked up again, it was gone, and then we both laughed.
“What?” Connor smiled.
“Nothin'.” I said, “I'm just a lightweight...”
“A very cute lightweight...” Arianna told me, “We need to find you a boy for the night.”
I liked the sound of that.

2020.11.02 02:35 cococolaa Looking for song!

Hellooo everyone!
I was at a restaurant yesterday and heard this song, but it was too loud to Shazam or anything like that. The song was like a Korean ballad sung by a male.
The music video was of him singing on this scenic beach(iirc). For sure though, he had somewhat curly hair about the length covering his eyes and he was wearing a dark reddish, button-up long sleeve! Also the M/V had some close up portrait shots of different girls that were non-asian. The M/V consisted mainly of him singing and the other people as I described.
The singer's voice was somewhat deep and husky!
I hope I gave enough details 😢😢 Honestly I am not the best at describing things.

2020.10.31 11:33 sai_prasanna_05 Brett And Eddy's Adventure At Hogwarts and The Curse Of The 9th Symphony

DISCLAIMER: This is a fan-fiction I wrote, which is based on the Harry Potter book series by J.K. Rowling. I tried my best to make it short, therefore I had to cut down many scenes from the story. This is part one of the series and if there are any errors, I apologize beforehand. I hope you will enjoy it :))
It was September first and all the students were excited. They had changed into their black robes and were chatting elatedly. The first years had to cross the lake to reach the castle, their new home- Hogwarts, the school of witchcraft and wizardry. Eddy and Brett climbed in a boat along with Henry and Michael. They all kept quiet except Brett who was pointing towards the castle shouting, “Ohh- look, look!”
“You seem to be too excited”, Henry smiled. “Oh yeah. I mean this is the birthplace of so many famous musicians and composers. I didn’t know until I received the letter”, “my parents didn’t know that too. They thought that all the geniuses were born and not created, you know.” “Same here, dude”, Eddy added, his cheeks flushed. “I just want to be sorted into Gryffindor,” Michael sighed.
“What about you guys?”
“Well, I don’t know much about the houses at Hogwarts.”
Henry and Michael exchanged a glance. “You don’t kno-. Oh, so you both must be muggle-born. Well, there are four houses- Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slythe-.” But he couldn’t complete the sentence because they had reached the underground arbour.
They silently walked up to the oak door and waited. The entrance door opened and they were ushered in front of everyone by Professor McGonagall. The sorting ceremony began with the sorting hat singing a song that changed every year. “I like Gryffindor though, it sounds cool,” Brett whispered in Eddy’s ear. Eddy nodded.
The sorting ceremony began and the first years were called up in the front and had to sit on a stool while they put the hat on their head. The line thinned and finally, Professor called “Brett Yang”. Brett sat on the tool and wore the hat. The hat started to mumble, “Hmm, sensitive and loyal but daring…Hmm…Oh and hunger for music…Slytherin? But no…not c-….RAVENCLAW!” And the students sitting on the second table towards the left of the Great Hall burst into applause.
It was Eddy’s turn now. He walked nervously to the stool and his cheeks turned red. And the hat mumbled again “Hmm…very loyal and loving…. passionate about music…hmm…where should I put him… maybe in Hufflepuff?” “No…” he closed his eyes. “Why? Hufflepuff has had many good wizards…Why?? Because I put your frie- RAVENCLAW!!”
Eddy sighed in relief and joined Brett among thunderous applause.
After the sorting ceremony was over, the headmaster allowed the feast to begin. Eddy and Brett began to eat. Eddy was upset because there was no Asian food on the table. Brett understood and he said, “You got to eat something bro.” Eddy forced down a piece of roast chicken, which tasted good.
A tall blonde boy approached them and his badge gleamed on his cloak. “Hi boys, my name Is Robert and I’m the prefect of the Ravenclaw house. If you have any problems just let me know.” Eddy nodded. “Well I wanted to ask you something”, Brett said. “Uhh, I mean. Why were we sorted into Ravenclaw?” Robert smiled. “The sorting hat might have sensed potential within you. You might be wise or clever or musicall-”.
“Music?”
“Well yes. All the greatest composers in the world were Ravenclaws. Like Tchaikovsky, Beethoven…Even Bach.” “Really?” Eddy asked. “Yes except for one composer. Paganini. Well, he was sorted into Slytherin, but he….” “Well boys better eat fast or else you will be going to bed hungry”, Robert said and left.
At around midnight, Eddy woke up with a familiar sound. Someone was playing the violin. “Brett…Brett wake up.” Brett fumbled for his glasses and listened carefully.
“Can you hear that?” Eddy enquired.
“Is that Paganini’s Caprice no. 5?” Brett was breathing heavily now.
“But who is playing the violin, that too at this time?”
“Should we go and check?”
“No, we shouldn’t. It will become suspicious. We will ask Robert tomorrow, okay?” Eddy replied. But Brett didn’t say anything. Both couldn’t sleep peacefully that night.
In the morning they entered the Great Hall for the breakfast and found out that Robert was talking to the Gryffindor prefect. So, they went up to Henry and Michael who were sitting at the Gryffindor table. They exchanged greetings and Brett told them about the sound of the violin and asked if they knew anything about it.
“Oh, don’t you worry,” Henry said “My elder brother studied here before and he told me that strange things keep happening at Hogwarts. And many great musicians and composers have died here and have had uncertain deaths. Don’t worry.” But the information didn’t relax them a bit.
“Oh, and did you know”, Michael looked around nervously then in a quiet voice he continued, “Mozart, you know one of the greatest composers died here without leaving a clue. He was the headmaster. Nobody knows exactly why he died. Many people think that Salieri killed him and others think that he suffered from the Miliary fever. But nobody knows exactly why”, his voice faded into a stone-cold silence.
While eating their breakfast, Brett and Eddy’s owls flew in and dropped one parcel each.
“Oh look! My mom sent bubble teas for both of us,” Eddy exclaimed.
Brett had received a letter along with two steaming hot pots. Brett read.
“I hope you are having an amazing time at Hogwarts. But remember to study. STUDY FIRST. Excel in all your subjects And DON’T FORGET TO PRACTICE VIOLIN OR ELSE I WILL BRING YOU BACK HOME. I met Ling Ling’s father yesterday and he told me that she is a year senior to you and she practices violin 40 HOURS A DAY. Learn something from her and keep practicing. Send my love to Eddy too.”
After they finished their hotpots and bubble teas, which had filled them with new vigour, they both attended their classes. They didn’t have much problems in the Transfiguration and Charms classes but they feared Professor Snape who looked like Franz Liszt but they didn’t dare tell him.
At dinner-time, they went looking around for Ling Ling but nobody had heard her name before. Finally, they went to the Slytherin’s table. Eddy found Esther who he had remembered from the Transfiguration class. “Hey, I am sorry to bother you but do you know anyone called Ling Ling?”
“I’m afraid. No.”
“Boys, is everything okay?” the Slytherin prefect who was sitting at the far side of the table asked. Brett and Eddy went up to him and enquired.
“Hmm…Ling Ling. I haven’t heard of anybody named Ling Ling here before…”
“She plays the violin and is in her second year,” Brett said.
The Slytherin prefect stood up and looked for the second-year girls and asked them.
“Hey Li Mei, do you know anybody who’s called Ling Ling?”
“No. But why?”
“These two boys have been looking for someone named Ling Ling.”
“She plays the violin. Well, do you know?” Eddy asked.
“Ling Ling. Never heard before. Oh, Li, don’t you play the violin?” a girl with a ponytail asked her. Li blushed a little and said, “No. I play the viola.” “But then why aren’t you in the Ravenclaw? Aren’t all the musicians supposed to be in Ravenclaw?” Eddy flushed after having asked an uncomfortable question. Li blushed some more and said in a soft voice, “Only those who are truly musically gifted are sorted into Ravenclaw.” Jack, the Slytherin prefect who sensed the tension in air said, “But wasn’t a composer…uh…what was his name? Pa-ga…Paganini (Paganyni) in Slytherin?” Brett flinched at the mispronunciation.
Two weeks had passed and they didn’t hear the mysterious violin sound anymore. On September seventeenth, Professor Flitwick announced that there was going to be an orchestral performance on the fifth of November and the audition was going to be held on the thirtieth. Eddy and Brett were both excited and started practicing hard. Brett was going to perform Mozart’s String Quartet no. 21 and Eddy, La Mer by Debussy. After a week of practicing intensely, they both felt relieved that they were going to get through the audition.
It was the day before the audition and Eddy looked upset.
“Why do you look so pale?” Brett asked.
“I think I ate too much spicy food today. I think I will skip the afternoon classes. Don’t worry, you go and attend the classes. I will try to take some rest in the dorm.”
“Well if you say so,” Brett said.
After the classes got over, Brett quickly went inside the common room to look for Eddy but he wasn’t there. So, he went inside the dorm-room but he wasn’t there either. Then he found a torn parchment near Eddy’s bed. It read,
“Feeling ill. Madam Pomfrey. Hospital.”
Brett went hurrying up to the fourth floor, towards the matron’s office. He looked inside and found Eddy lying in a bed unconsciously. Before he could enter, Madam Pomfrey stopped him into a halt and put her finger on her lips.
“I have cast a healing charm on him, Lenio. He is recovering. You can go now,” she whispered.
Dismayed, Brett went inside his room. He couldn’t think of dinner now, his best friend was sick and he had his audition tomorrow. He tried to practice but he immediately dropped the bow down on the table, when he looked at the empty bed towards his left.
So, he left his room and went to the Great Hall which was nearly empty. He thought about bubble tea and hotpot. He was feeling hungry now. He looked around and found that Li Mei, the only person who he could recognize in the hall was sitting by herself and looking up towards the ceiling. He looked up too and amid thousands of floating candles, he could see billions of stars. He couldn’t name them but out of all the constellations, he could easily spot The Orion.
“Where’s your friend?”
“Oh hi, Li Mei. Umm, Eddy is in the hospital. He is ill,” Brett replied looking at his palms. “Why were you looking for Ling Ling?” Li asked.
“Oh, well our parents know each other and my mom told me that she was here at Hogwarts so, well I thought it would be nice to meet her,” Brett said slightly flushed. He added, “She practices 40 hours a day! And she can play all the instruments and excels in all her subjects!!”
Alarmed, Li replied “But I haven’t heard of anybody here who can play all the instruments and excels in all the subjects. Hmm…Interesting.”
“I know it’s quite bizarre knowing that someone practices forty hours a day. Well do you think that someone can practice for that long? I mean there’s only 24 hours. Isn’t it?” Brett asked nonchalantly.
“In the muggle world, yes,” she smiled.
“What do you mean?”
“Well,” she straightened her back, “Time is just an illusion, a mere vessel that people like you and me fill it up for our own purpose. Time is a concept created by humans and nothing in this world created by us is everlasting. But time, as it appears, is never-ending, it is immortal. Yesterday, today, and tomorrow is but a perception. There’s nothing as such but what we do have is…Now,” she smiled at him. “If Ling Ling can practice 40 hours a day, so can you.”
…………………………………………………………
After two days, Eddy returned to his usual routine. Brett hugged Eddy and smiled jubilantly. Eddy was surprised when Brett told him that he didn’t audition for the orchestra. “I thought I would mess up,” he said, “I had never felt so ominous about performing before but overall, it’s okay with me.”
Many days passed and everything went well. Li had managed to bring them bubble tea every evening, Eddy and Brett were excelling in all their subjects and Professor Flitwick was very pleased with them.
What if the forests and hills were a limitless mirror and reflected the infinite cover above? What if there was no disparity between the auburn skies and the russet terrains? Since when did sunsets become this beautiful that it was difficult to discern the limits? There was a thin silver thread that lined the horizon and divided the two realms: for otherworldly immortals and conscientious mortals. Eddy and Brett were watching the sunset with immense admiration. When suddenly, the silence was broken by someone’s scream.
All the students ran towards the sound which came from the third floor. Students and teachers had gathered around a body that was lying on the floor. Everybody gasped for it was Professor Flitwick who lay dead. Professor Dumbledore commanded the prefects to take the students to their respective common rooms. It was then when a fifth-year student screamed that he was writing his 9th symphony. Students whispered and exchanged terrified looks.
Eddy and Brett were conversing with Danny and Lucas in their dorm room. Lucas was on the verge of crying. Brett’s owl Bubbles, flew in and dropped a letter on his lap chirping delightfully.
“I have brought bubble teas for both of you. Meet me on the third floor.”
Eddy and Brett sneaked out of their common room and met li in the corridor of the third floor. They drank their bubble tea in silence and finally, Eddy spoke, “So, it is true that people die while composing their 9th symphony.” None of them spoke. Then Brett asked after having finished his bubble tea, “Hey Li, did you audition for the orchestra. I mean you play the viola, don’t you?”
“Oh, no I didn’t. I am busy with my school-work and besides, I’m learning new things.”
“How do you manage to get bubble tea for us?” Eddy asked.
“Oh, that’s easy. There’s a magic spell but I cannot tell you which.”
“But why????”
“It’s a secret. No more questions. You two better go to bed or Mr. Filch will give you detention.”
Although Eddy and Brett slept soundly but they woke up with a bad headache. This occurred every day and they both didn’t have a clue. The only thing that mattered was the bubble tea that waited for them on the third floor at the end of the day.
Halloween arrived and the Great Hall was decorated with yellow and black streamers and pumpkin lanterns. Hufflepuffs were extremely happy for they triumphed over other houses with 457 points. Everybody was looking forward to the feast. But Eddy and Brett looked like they hadn’t slept for years. Anxious, they both thought it’d be better to talk to Dumbledore for he knew everything.
They went to Dumbledore’s office without telling anybody but before they could figure out the password, he called them from behind.
“Oh Professor, umm…We…” Eddy stuttered.
“You both look unwell,” Dumbledore said calmly.
“Uh Dumbledore, we wake up almost every day with a headache. It’s like someone has been screaming shrilly in our ears,” Brett said.
“And sometimes I hear someone playing the violin too,” eddy added.
“Shall we go inside?”
Dumbledore’s office was interesting. He had collected very strange objects and paintings. Brett saw an eccentric violin at the corner, it had the shape of a violin but there were seven strings instead of four and the neck of the violin was extremely long.
“That,” Dumbledore pointed, “Was given to me by my colleague, Mr. Flamel. It’s a sacrilegious piece of art that I haven’t been able to play,” he frowned. “So, about the headache, why don’t you boys go to Madam Pomfrey’s office? She will surely know the cure.”
Eddy and Brett were both silent.
“Is anything bothering you these days?”
They both looked at each other and Brett said, “Well the first day we arrived, we heard someone playing the violin at midnight and we had no idea who was it. We even tried looking for my acquaintance, Ling Ling but we couldn’t find her and how Professor Flitwick died due to the curse-”.
“He is not dead,” Dumbledore said.
“But-”
“He was petrified. Someone had cast a spell on him and we are trying to find the person. And with the help of Madam Pomfrey, he is all right now. I have sent him home so he could gain back his strength.”
Eddy and Brett gaped at each other, bereft with words.
“And there’s no such thing as the curse of the 9th symphony boys. People invented this so the generations that followed were already prepared for their inopportune death. Once you have embedded in your mind that you are going to die then even the higher forms of magic will be of no use. If there is no will, there is no way and if there is no hope,” he trailed off “There is no another day.”
“But in the wizarding world, we never know who is getting weaker and who stronger,” he continued “All we know is that Magic and Music are the greatest mysteries in the world. And people who believe in music, believe in the existence of magic but they are unaware of it.”
“There is but one difference between Magic and Music…That is, Magic can transfer Soul into something which is often unheeded and seldom understood whereas, Music is itself the Soul which speaks in many different languages but understood by all.”
Eddy and Brett had never felt so at ease before, as now. They could feel the strings of burden loosen its grip from their head. Brett noticed something hiding behind Dumbledore’s table.
Dumbledore said, “Oh. These are known as Bubble Tea and is made by muggles. I often visit the muggle world to get these. Helps me pacify my mind. And, to quench my thirst.” Eddy and Brett gulped. “Want some?”
Eddy swiftly grabbed one from the pile and as Brett went for his, the bubble tea disappeared. Much to their surprise, two more bubble teas vanished into thin air. “Oh, it has been happening for a long time, I wonder who’s up to such mischief. I hope it is not a student,” Dumbledore sighed. “Here”, he gave one to Brett.
Back in the corridor, they met Li Mei who was searching for them, hugging three bubble teas in her arms. Li was shocked to see them holding one each.
“Where did you get these?” She demanded.
“Oh,” Eddy said, “We learned the spell ourselves.”
Li looked at them with disbelief.
All the students descended from the scarlet Hogwarts Express. Eddy and Brett carrying their luggage made their way through the silver fog, the train produced. They saw their parents at a far distance and there was a man standing beside Brett’s father. They made their way through the crowd, hustling, and bustling. In between hugs and kisses, Brett asked “Who was the man standing beside you?” Brett’s mom ruffling his hair said, “Oh, he is Ling Ling’s father.” Brett swiftly turned back but all he could see was white smoke and somewhere inside him, he knew that the answers were waiting for him at Hogwarts.
To be continued…
