2020.11.29 23:26 Frosty_Guest_4664 I accuse myself (21M) of hurting her (22F) seriously, it's been a year. She doesn't think I hurt her. Hell, nobody thinks so, even therapists and psychiatrists. But I still feel guilty, HEAVILY, and I don't know why. Help me please

VERY LONG POST WARNING --- available TL;DR at the end of the post
Hi. This is gonna be a rather long post, so, sorry for that in advance. Also, this is one of my many accounts, the post’s not gonna be published from my real IP, simply because of safety reasons. Even though a part of you guys will probably at least sympathise with me regarding the dilemma, there´s still going to be some of you who will love to get me doxxed, or me being hurt in some way (even though that´s not necessary, since I´m more than willing to hurt myself because of the issue I´m about to address).
Another important detail: English isn´t my native language, I hail from a small country in central/eastern Europe (pick one!). Therefore, my wordsmithing isn´t the finest, so my apologies for that, although I can say that I learn this language for more than a decade and I also know several other languages… so it´s more about my insecurities, I guess.
This story will be all about mental health and most importantly, sex-ed related issues. Why did I decide to post it here? Because I seriously can´t live with it and I need to hear a wider opinion, an opinion of total strangers I haven´t even met. It seems like a stupid idea, doesn´t it. But even though I´ve already told it to many friends, family members, acquaintances, psychologists AND psychiatrists and even some totally unknown people (around 40 people in total), I just feel this urge to hear a wider opinion, especially from foreigners, who aren´t from my country.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So, I´m a young guy studying at a university in a small city. I´ve met a nice girl in August 2019 via Tinder, who seemed kinda cute, although we hadn´t much to talk about and we were definitely different personality-wise, me being a neurotic diagnosed with OCD and her having a borderline personality disorder. Let´s call her Linda (using fake names, again, for safety reasons). We had sex the first night me met. It was perfect. We started seeing each other and we were satisfied with the fact that we´d date each other. The relationship was relatively stable, although I did sometimes have obsessive thoughts that she might be pregnant (remember – I am diagnosed with OCD and we didn´t have sex with a condom).
At the end of October 2019 the academic year has already begun and we usually just drank every other evening with my roommate. One evening, we went to a pub, had few beers and smoked some weed, all three of us. Then all three of us went from the pub to our apartment to have some rest. There I went to the loo, totally stoned out of my mind, whilst they were already getting ready to sleep, her in my bed and the roommate in his one. Since weed acts a bit strange sometimes, I heard some lip smacking and weird sounds coming from the bedroom, while I was peeing. Remember, I was high af, so after I went to the dark bedroom, I just whispered to them “you guys were kissing here?” and they just were a bit perplexed by my paranoia and told me that nothing happened. Linda then told me to lie down and she just told me to breathe, she then smiled and made sure that I´m calmer. She then lied down next to me, on that small bed. We all just were ready to have some good sleep.
Then I can´t remember much, being drunk and stoned and the same time (she was almost sober since she definitely isn´t a light-weight when it comes to partying). After a while, I just started to touch her a bit and I wanted to have sex, although it was almost impossible, because of weed related reasons. She then whispered that she isn´t in the mood (at least that´s what she told me the next day, I couldn´t remember shit) and I just still was trying to put myself in her (yes, not having the consent), and we had sex for, like, a minute and a half, or something like that, like I said, it was barely possible to even have sex for both of us. She then whispered that we really shouldn´t have sex (two other guys sleeping in the bedroom) and we just… stopped having sex, we covered ourselves with another blanket and then we went to sleep.
The next day we all woke up, some of us with a hangover, and she just was acting normally as usual, joking, smiling, etc. When we went out for a walk, I asked her, “did we have sex last night?” And she just giggled and said “yeah, we did. By the way, you also were paranoid af. And you didn´t ask me much, when we f*cked back there, too,” and she just laughed about it, but I just stood still and was shocked. “Did I just actually commit something horrible last night?”, I asked. She insisted on the fact that she doesn´t acknowledge it as a rape and she just held my hand, told me to stop panicking and we went for a lunch. I forced myself to forget about the evening. By the way – we had sex many other times, until she decided to see someone else in July 2020.
Next month, I started to see something change in me. My heart started to beat fast randomly, I also felt a weird, dull pain in my limbs. I´ve told Linda that I have these weird problems and that I probably have some heart problems. It was later revealed that it was all psychosomatic, all cause by repressed thoughts being linked to that evening.
In late January 2020, I couldn´t resist thinking about that evening. I started to think about it all the time, literal THOUSANDS of times a day. I started to do some research on the internet, because me, being a liberal young guy, already was influenced by some western (mostly American or British) sex-ed websites, having information that non-consensual sex is in 100% of cases counted as a rape. I started finding more and more similar websites. Then I was fully convinced that I, a guy who would never hurt a woman (also being from a family where my father did beat me, my sister and my mom, therefore hurting women and kids), am actually a f*cking rapist.
So, I called Linda. I cried, a lot. She couldn´t really understand me well, because I was in an absolute shock, that I hurt sexually someone I love and appreciate. “So, I actually did rape you back then, didn´t I?” “No, you didn´t, calm down, seriously.”
The next few months were just a terrible mess. Almost every time I met her and I couldn´t hold back my guilt, I just broke down crying, screaming, scratching my hands. She was often trying to calm me down by gently kissing me, caressing me and holding me, but nothing happened, nothing worked. I was just screaming hysterically at her that I´ve raped her and that she has a Stockholm syndrome. After some time I even claimed that she is just an eastern-european hillbilly who apologizes rape, caused on herself. (Little did I know, that she was reluctant to tell me that she did very well know, what a rape is. She was forced to have sex by a stranger at a party – I think she told me it was a party – several years ago. That, she truly acknowledged as a terrible harm, caused by a guy, on her. She told me her experience at the end of spring this year. )
It was in February 2020, when I started to see my new psychiatrist and my new psychologist. The psychiatrist, a guy with a stoic face unimpressed by nothing I said, simply said that he doesn´t see it as a rape and presented some loose arguments, including “if she doesn´t see it as a rape, why do you see it as such?” He prescribed me some benzo´s (Neurol), shook my hand and I left the psychiatric ward of the hospital. This meeting repeated a few times.
Then I´ve met my psychologist. A genuine, nice young guy, who did acknowledge my suffering and told me the same. He, at least, seems a bit more empathetic than Dr. Stoic (another fake name). Nothing helped, even though he was kind and I appreciate his effort. To this day (29th November 2020) we had at least fifty therapies together. Nothing worked to solve the debacle.
The situation didn´t get better, obviously, the cause of the problem simply wasn´t solved. I started to type Linda long messages in chat, that she must tell about “our situation” to the police, that she must solve this situation in a court with me, or I´ll kill myself, because I can´t live with this feeling of guilt anymore. Linda´s opinion didn´t change, however, Linda´s started to lose hair after a while, caused by the stress of the whole… thing. She felt terrible, because I´ve felt extremely terrible.
In March 2020, I got prescribed some antidepressants by Dr. Stoic. SSRIs, Sertraline, to be more precise. I started to use them, because they diagnosed me of having OCD. They also said that it will bring me a relief from thinking about the same thing over and over – remember – SEVERAL THOUSAND times a day. The first days, well… They were just straight up trash. My moods were swinging all over the place, not even taking into account all these “nice” things such as diarrhea, dizziness, nausea and other well-known side effects. To make sure that I won´t kill myself, since I was really thinking about it at this point, I got myself locked up in a psychiatric ward for a few days.
The SSRIs then started working. The spring of 2020 was strangely interesting and funny at the same time. The coronavirus stared its outbreak in my country and I just stayed home at my mom´s place (she had to endure my crying and screaming all the time as well, btw), ate my pills, played video games, sometimes Linda came to visit me, because she still cared about my well-being and I didn´t just give a shit about f*ckall. It was all very, very, lazy. But yes, the pills kicked in after a month of weird feelings and so and so on.
It didn´t also cause the fact that I didn´t give a shit about the issue no more, it also caused that I didn´t give a shit about anything. So, I just kind of layed weeks and weeks in my bedroom and watched some Youtube videos. I also told many other friends the story about “me, in my opinion, raping Linda” in a calm manner. Everybody - in the same calm manner - answered, that I totally overthought the dilemma. I thought about it, didn´t change my opinion at all. But I did have this artificial calmness in me caused by SSRIs, so I just went on my life during the summer, meeting Linda sometimes, our relationship became then more and more loose and then she decided to move on and she started dating a guy who she really loves and he does love her. I´m happy for her, she is much happier now. I also have a new girlfriend now, who I don´t bother with my personal problems too much and I still visit my psychologist.
I´ve stopped taking SSRIs in late September this year, two months before recommended. I also used to drink alcohol often even though I used the meds, but hey, that´s the mentality of our country for you.
I´m still stuck with the issue of accusing myself of being a rapist. Nobody gives a shit, nobody DID give a shit, nobody told me shit, that would help me to stand straight again and stop myself from crying and breaking down all the time, because this is in my eyes a vicious cycle. I WILL eventually kill myself if this issue will not result in ANY way, I just need to make this shit stop.
For the last month, I also started to feel a dissociative tendencies (look up depersonalization & derealization) caused by the stress and my subconciousness unwilling to admit that this really is a reality and it isn´t just a bad dream/a coma (yes, my brain is childish like this).
So… feel free to write down your opinion on this mess, guys and gals. Anything, good or bad. Just remember one thing – I´ve truly suffered for the whole past year.
TL;DR: Sex between me and a girl I used to see (SEE DETAILS ABOVE BEFORE WRITING A COMMENT), girl who I dated and liked, me then accusing myself of rape, she thinks the opposite, I go crazy, she is sad that I go crazy, nothing helps, she just wants me to feel better, new pills just numb the mental pain, still stuck in the same place for a year, she sees now another guy and I see an another gal.

2020.11.29 23:16 WiseCake13 I (23F) need LDR advice for myself and bf (24M) desperately, please read advice needed!!

I re-submitted this as no one saw it before, I changed the title to help describe my situation better. TLDR; I'm having communication issues with my ldr bf who I'm seriously in love with, I want to do everything possible to make this work, what can we do? My (23f) boyfriend (24m) and I are in a ldr and have been for 3+ years. We lived together briefly during the pandemic until school started. He lives about 5-ish hours away and lives at the dorms on campus, I share an apartment with 2 friends and walk to school.

A little bit about our relationship: he and I are each other's firsts, I did have two 'relationships' in hs that were really awkward and never got passed a kiss each. We met in community college and were aquatinted as we shared a lot of classes in the same major, we ended up becoming friends and then dating. I fell in love with him hard, I'd never been in love before and neither had he. I've always dreamed of getting married and having a big wedding celebration with friends and family, and he isn't sure he wants to get married. He's said in the past I'd be his wife one day, and things like he wants to change my last name. One thing we also can't agree on is space, he'd prefer a studio apartment while one day I'd like to have a big house with enough room for entertaining and guests, maybe some children. While I daydream and pinterest about these things they aren't my top priority right now.
Now onto the issue.
I'm not sure how to start. He used to send me good morning messages everyday, with little emojis and sometimes stickers, and he'd call me beautiful. He gave me attention and made me feel listened to and loved. He's always been a gentleman, I've been up and down with jobs before our relationship began and he's always taken me out for breakfast, lunch, dinner etc. and paid for me. When I was furloughed during the pandemic and didn't at first qualify for unemployment he took care of me and supported me, he bought groceries, a phone, ordered food and paid for our internet bill once (not just for me, but for my roommates too, and when I did qualify I bought him a gaming chair and some other things, and paid for everything then on out including ordering food). He's an amazing man, he's kind, gentle and sweet, and very talented in his major. I feel so lucky to have him in my life, and so I want him to be a permanent fixture.
I think the long distance has been hard and we've both been bottling things up, I can be clingy and he needs space, so this semester I tried to text him less and let him message me first. It would be hours into the day before I heard from him, and we'd do one vc a night but it's not like we had before, I'm not sure how to describe it. I had a vc with him last week and I mentioned he was "it" for me, which he admitted scared him. He came up the day after Thanksgiving (we both tested negative for c) and I mentioned moving in and he said he wanted more time to think about it. Last night we finally talked about our relationship and put everything out in the open. He told me the amount of communication we had this semester was great for him and I broke down, because it's been really hard for me. I told him that while I was happy he was making friends and working on new projects, I've been jealous that they get so much time and attention and I feel like I've been pushed away. He told me that I scared him when I said he was "it" for me, because he wasn't sure if he was ready to settle and wasn't sure if he knew that the love he was feeling was real love. He told me he loves me, but he wasn't sure. I cried so much hearing that. He said we're so young and that there's a lot we haven't done yet, which I agree with. We talked more and I asked if he thought we could save our relationship, and he said that he thought we could make it through this. I told him we don't have to move in together next fall, that we can wait on it, and he seemed relieved. I want to make it through this, I want him to be happy,I don't want to push him into anything he doesn't want to do, and I want to be with him. I'm willing to do whatever it takes to keep this relationship. I'd really like advice from people who have been in LDRs before. We're going to talk more about our relationship today, but I want advice on somethings I can bring up to help improve our relationship. What are things we can do to improve our communication and get on the same level?
Obligatory LTL, though I comment on posts occasionally, also sorry for the long read
I do NOT give permission for anyone to use this as a story in a reddit related youtube video or to repost on any other website in general.

2020.11.29 22:51 Pastelware My (F/33) room mate’s (F/30) boyfriend (M/29) is acting scary?

So my room mate (F/30) has been dating this guy (M/29) since July-ish, & I’ve always got pretty bad vibes from him. I’m F/33.
He’s outright admitted to stalking an ex who he got engaged to VERY soon after meeting, & when she broke up with him, he internet stalked her until he found all her updated info (she’d changed her number & moved - NOT A GREAT SIGN!)
Anyway, currently I am VERY creeped. Apparently he was really hungover this morning after partying with his bros who live nearby, so he drove over, checking to see if my car was in the parking lot (I don’t like having him over randomly - small apartment, little privacy) to see if he could crash at our place for a few hours before work. Which would have been fine but he went about it in the CREEPIEST way ever. I was gone (thankfully) & my room mate was sleeping, so this dude used his phone to TURN OUR TV ON from OUTSIDE THE APARTMENT & played a bunch of videos of dog’s barking to alert her dog up so my room mate would wake up & let him in???
Am I overreacting or is this a complete violation of privacy? I shouldn’t have to unplug my TV (note: it’s MY TV - not my room mate’s) whenever I’m not using it, fearing this dude will just pop up & start streaming loud, terrifying videos off Youtube to scare me half to death.
I told my room mate to tell him that was not okay & to never do it again, but I still feel pretty freaked out.
TLDR; Room mate’s boyfriend is controlling our electronics from outside our apartment to get our attention. Is this crossing a boundary?
Thoughts?

2020.11.29 22:07 _higglety [cheesemaking] A Small Cheesemaker in Australia vs The Consortium for the Protection of Grana Padano Cheese

G'day Curd Nerds! I'd like to tell you about a bit of hobby drama that is not so much a tempest in a teapot as it is a bit of a ripple in a teacup. It's drama that's so small, in such a peaceful little corner of the internet that I almost hesitate to bring it here- except, the resolution has such a unique blend of petty and wholesome that I thought perhaps others might find the story diverting.

The ingredients:

First, the Cheeseman: On youtube, there is a man whose entire channel revolves around cheese. His name is Gavin, and telling you this is not doxxing because that is literally his channel name. You can find his channel here: https://www.youtube.com/c/GavinWebbefeatured However, in the spirit of not using real names (even ones so thoroughly public), I will be referring to him here as The Cheeseman.
I came across his channel in March and got hooked on his videos because literally all he uploads (aside from Q&A livestreams) is videos where he walks through cheesemaking recipes, explaining the process the whole time in a very mellow, soothing voice, and tasting videos for the cheeses he's made. His videos are very calming, and exactly what I needed because, y'know, pandemic. His channel has 251K subscribers, which is nothing to sneeze at, but also not enormous. It's also home to one of the most generally positive comments sections of any I've seen; I don't often read comments sections so it's very possible I've missed things, but generally all I see is positive comments and conversations among folks who have attempted to make the cheeses in the videos.
Next, the cheese: Grana Padano
Grana Padano is a type of Italian cheese similar to Parmigiano-Reggiano. It's a hard cow's milk cheese with a grainy, crumbly texture. It's also PDO, that is "Protected Designation of Origin", and has been since 1996. Essentially, just like champagne is only champagne if it comes from the Champagne wine region of France, otherwise it's just sparkling wine (and Destiel is only Destiel if it comes from Supernatural, otherwise it's just sparkling bury your gays), Grana Padano is only Grana Padano if it comes from the Po river valley in northern Italy, otherwise you cannot use that name to describe a cheese.
Which brings us to: The Consortium for the Protection of Grana Padano Cheese
This is a legally-recognized group whose purpose is "preserving Grana Padano and its Protected Designation of Origin (in Italian, Denominazione di Origine Protetta or DOP) status; in promoting it, supporting its development and taking care of its interests and in providing correct information to the public." You can view their website here:
https://www.granapadano.it/en-ww/the-consortium.aspx
They have all kinds of detailed explanations of exactly who they are and so forth, but the salient details for the purposes of this drama are that 1) these are the people who make the cheese, and have a vested interest in keeping tight control over the name, and 2) they do have the legal authority to do so. For the purposes of this writeup, I will be referring to them as The Consortium.

Step 1: Warming The Milk

So a while back, the Cheeseman had uploaded a video entitled "How to make Grana Padano Style Cheese". I don't have the exact date the original video was uploaded, nor can I link to it, because it has now been taken down, however I can deduce that it must have been uploaded about 15 moths ago, which would have been sometime in August 2019. Because most cheeses take time to age, the Cheeseman generally uploads an initial preparation method where he makes the cheese, and then after aging for the prescribed length of time, he uploads a second tasting video where he shares the results of aging the cheese. The tasting video for the Grana Padano Style cheese went up October 17, 2020, and is viewable here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z1Qj2i3PMy4 The video description indicates a 14-month aging period.
In the original video, the Cheeseman makes it very clear multiple times that the cheese he is making is inspired by Grana Padano, and is intended to be as close as he can get to the style of this cheese, but no matter how close he gets, it can never be called Grana Padano because of the PDO status. However, that wasn't good enough for the Consortium.

Step 2: Curdling

Three days ago on November 26, the Cheeseman uploaded a video, viewable here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M_AzMLhPF1Q&t=2s
In it, he shares that he was sent a cease and desist letter from "an intellectual property company" on behalf of the Consortium, wherein they declare that the Cheeseman's video "is a clear infringement of the Consorzio’s intellectual property rights." They go on to say that "Indeed, your video seems to describe how to create counterfeited replicas of Grana Padano."

Let us all take a moment to contemplate the implications of counterfeit cheese.

Ok moment over.

They conclude by "kindly asking" for the removal of the video within 5 days of the receipt of the letter, and caution that if he fails to comply, they "will not hesitate to take the necessary steps to ensure the protection of its trademark rights."
The Cheeseman included in the description of the video a link to the PDF of the letter, which you can view there, if you're so inclined (there's not much more there than what I've included, though). I've chosen not to include it here directly because even though he posted it himself, it still includes some personal information and I'd prefer not to link to it directly.
After reading the letter out, he talks a bit about the letter and the original video, playing the snippets where he specifies that he is not and cannot make true Grana Padano cheese due to the PDO nature of the cheese; however he theorizes that he must have gotten pretty close with his recipe based on their concern over "counterfeit replica cheese". He concludes by encouraging his audience to go check out his original Grana Padano video soon if they're interested, because he does intend to comply with the takedown request and remove the original video exactly within the timeframe requested (and no sooner).

Step 2: Pressing and Draining

This is where things get interesting, because at this point, the Cheeseman shares that the Consortium has actually apologized to him.
The very next day on November 27, 2020, the Cheeseman uploaded a video (viewable here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Xy_KkZDiTE ) updating his audience on the Grana Padano situation. You see, he received a letter from the Director General of the Consortium in reference to the cease and desist letter, and the Cheeseman's video on the subject. As with the previous video, the Cheeseman linked to a PDF of the letter right in the video description, and although I will pull some quotes from it, I will refrain from linking it directly here. Basically the gist of it is that they were aware of his video and were going to let it slide (and indeed, it had been up for over a year unchallenged), however the video had been "reported to us [...] by our direct superiors at the Ministry and the EU Committee."
The Director General went on to say "We had not intervened before because your good faith is clear from your video and we are very sorry to see you and your community so angry towards us."
The Cheeseman responds: "Well personally I'm not angry, but the community has spoken I suppose, [Director General], that's just what they do on the internet" (This is, quite possibly, the most understated and true description of the internet that I have ever heard.)
The Director General adds a postscript:
"Ps. On a further note, you didn’t quite get the “real recipe” of Grana Padano...it is “slightly” different [smile emoji] So if ever you come to Italy, once this awful pandemic is over, we would like you to be our guest and we will take you to one of our dairies, where one of our master cheesemakers can teach you all the tricks of the trade."
The Cheeseman's response to this is gracious, but reaffirms that he doesn't believe he's in the wrong, and shares his intension to re-upload a "grainy Italian hard cheese" video.

Step 3: Aging the Cheese

As promised, yesterday (November 28, 2020), the Cheeseman reuploaded his Grana Padano cheesemaking video under the name "Chease & Desist Style Cheese with Taste Test. To Italy with Love 💛" viewable here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vqPP24IU1to
It is, as promised, exactly the same as the original video, except he's dubbed over every instance of "Grana Padano" within the video with "Chease and Desist". He's also combined the making video with the later tasting video, although the original taste test video was not specifically mentioned in the original cease and desist letter, nor was it ever requested to come down. Indeed, as I mentioned earlier, that original tasting video (with the name of the cheese unaltered) is still up, and as a matter of fact, it shows up in the first page of google results for Grana Padano!

Tasting Notes:

If you've read all this, I hope it's brought some amusement. I know it's not as dramatic as most stuff in this sub, but a small-time home cheesemaker getting communication directly from an international cheese consortium was a level of absurd that I had to share. If there are any further developments and if people are interested, I will be happy to provide updates.

2020.11.29 20:48 Frosty_Guest_4664 A VERY, VERY SERIOUS POST, TL;DR AT THE END (BUT YOU SHOULD READ THE DETAILS)

VERY LONG POST WARNING --- available TL;DR at the end of the post
Hi. This is gonna be a rather long post, so, sorry for that in advance. Also, this is a throwaway account, the post’s not gonna be published from my real IP, simply because of safety reasons.
TL;DR: Sex, (SEE DETAILS ABOVE BEFORE WRITING A COMMENT), girl who I dated and liked, me then accusing myself of rape, she thinks the opposite, I go crazy, she is sad that I go crazy, nothing helps, she just wants me to feel better, new pills just numb the mental pain, still stuck in the same place for a year, she sees now another guy and I see an another gal.

2020.11.29 20:40 Tinkerballz1 Console gamer switching to PC. $1000 budget. ASAP!

What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.
Gaming while also browsing the internet and watching youtube. Games include GTA, COD Warzone and Black Ops, Cyberpunk. I would also like good wifi support and would like to be able to game easily at 1080p/1440p.
What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?
$1000 USD
When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.
ASAP
What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (ToweOS/monitokeyboard/mouse/etc)
Just the tower
Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?
U.S. and no access to Microcenter.
If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.
I have a logitech keyboard and mouse as well as a 1080p monitor. I will upgrade the monitor later on.
Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?
I'm not too sure what this is.
Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)
SSD forsure, 1tb would be nice but isn't needed at the moment.
Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-towefull-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?
I really like the look of the NZXT h510 or Fractal design meshify
Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?
I don't have it but I heard I can get it for cheap.
I am extremely confused and frustrated as everything recommended is out of stock and I just want a solid pc!! Thanks in advance!!

Site: http://oyster.libsyn.com/
Synopsis: In a not so distant future, due to overwhelming carbon emissions, The Earth is on the brink of becoming uninhabitable. These conditions are made far more horrifying because the available housing shelters (that can produce sustainable air quality) will only be able to house 80% of the world’s total population. To try and save the human race, every person has a government-mandated microchip implanted in their brains to attempt to facilitate the migration of a portion of the population to an underground shelter. In order to decide who gets to be protected and who must stay above ground, the government implements a value scale they have determined based on “usefulness” to future society. If you are valued at a 50 or above, you will be chosen to enter the bunker, and, if not, you must stay above ground and face the end of days. “Neuron” (which acts as both a prestigious brain implant and also a software company) is folded into a sanctioned branch of the government called, “The Ministry of Experience.” Their job now is to develop technologies and software that can replicate the human experience above ground. But what is far more pressing is The Ministry must find a way to reduce the use of resources, or they will run out of all survivable assets before being able to relocate to “Eden” - the one place above ground that might be salvageable in a few years time. Whether Eden will be ready in time remains to be seen, but its existence is literally the last hope for the human race surviving. In a drastic effort to cut emissions and resource usage, “The Oyster” is created. The Oyster is Nirvana - A state absent from the mind while being filled with complete pleasure and bliss. What, then, happens when reality begins to fade and The Oyster is all that remains?

2020.11.29 18:29 BernieAnesPaz Cyberpunk 2077 release/game info and common answers

CTRL+F to search for stuff or, if you're on a phone, just be sad and scroll.
-- (DIGITAL) WHEN IS CYBERPUNK 2077 RELEASING?--
December 10, 2020, at midnight UTC (Not Polish midnight, it seems). It is a GLOBAL RELEASE, which means everyone gets it at the SAME TIME. The VPN trick is pointless. As far as we know, pretty much both PC and consoles have confirmed the unusual times (most developers don't use UTC). This is also the same time Witcher 3 launched.
EDIT: PS4 reportedly showing standard local midnight release for some. Likely a mistake, as I seriously doubt Sony would make their fanbase wait while everyone else is playing.
Google itself will tell you when this is for you. Click here.
Alternatively, you can manually calculate it here.
This should translate to 1 AM in Poland, 4PM PST, 7PM EST, etc.
--(Physical) WHEN IS CYBERPUNK 2077 RELEASING?--
Really shocked this needs to be answered, but since it's been asked: yes, most carriers will deliver it on the 10th. The PC "physical" version is just a code for a GOG download. VERY few distributors will send you the code ahead of time, but some will if you ask, so try it. You MAY get it early, but likely will get it whenever you normally get mail on the 10th.
Some places may do midnight or earlier releases for physical copies, but because of the pandemic it's unlikely to be many (and is ill-advised anyway).
--Is the game DRM Free? (ON PC, obviously)--
Yes. CDPR is vehemently against DRM, and the DRM-free nature of Cyberpunk has been confirmed by journalists. Whether it's Steam, GoG, or Epic Game Store, you will be able to run the game without any of them open, and YES, you can technically just copy and paste the game onto 20 computers if you wanted. That's just what DRM-free means, but PLEASE support the developers.
Again, this obviously doesn't include stuff like consoles or Stadia which are inherently locked by nature.
--Difference between Steam and GoG?--
Ultimately, no differences. Both are DRM free, both have achievements, both will update at the same time. CDPR, the makers of Cyberpunk 2077, own GOG, so if you buy it from there the devs get 100% of your money. Every platform will get its own comic and on Steam you get an exclusive short story; they'll all probably be all over the internet in 5 seconds though, if you really care.
--PC Performance or "Can I run it?"--
Here are the official hardware requirements, but I'll tell you now that no one really knows how it'll actually run in reality because they've given us no information about FPS targets on PC (we can probably safely assume 60, as that is the standard on PC).
Anyway, here is the RTX ray tracing gameplay trailer for the 30xx unicorns.
AMD and thus next-gen console raytracing will come eventually, but right now it's limited to Nvidia GPUs.
--Will there be official modding support?--
CDPR has been inconsistent with official support for their games. Their official word for Cyberpunk 2077 specifically is "not at the moment" because they want to focus on the core game, which I guess isn't a no. Witcher 2 actually had RedKit for official modding support, and Cyberpunk 2077 uses an upgraded version of the same engine, so it's possible a new RedKit will be released someday.
However, even without modding support at the start, Witcher 3 still had a ton of modding. Most notably, the infamous nudity mods that gave gamers the world over the joy of seeing Geralt's buttery buttocks all the time instead of just in a few scenes, because no one cared about anyone else's buttocks, obviously.
With the popularity of the game, though, CDPR would be bonkers to not officially add modding support, and honestly, the modding community probably won't care even if they don't.
So that's kind of where we're at: A solid WE SHALL SEE.
--Next-gen Patch? How does it run on consoles?-
Note that CDPR hasn't said a single thing about FPS/resolution targets on any of the consoles either, sorry. IMO this is really something they should revealed already, but meh.
Next-gen patch is planned for next year; CDPR has not given a date. The game runs a bit better on next-gen consoles, but will not have any next-gen features or graphical enhancements until this patch.
Here is the official X Box One X and Series X gameplay.
Here is the official PS5 and PS4 Pro gameplay.
Note that outside of these videos, all gameplay has been on high end PCs, so please don't let your expectations get out of hand due to the trailers. No gameplay has been shown on the base models. CDPR says it runs fine, but, again, I'd seriously taper my expectations.
--GoG Account Link Freebies?--
CDPR hasn't actually spoken about this, but they have mentioned there will be shirts and swords and other goodies if you own their prior games, and that it doesn't matter where you own them. Expect information this week, likely.
--Multiplayer--
This will be free for anyone who already owns the base game (so half the world, I guess). There's no release date, but it was expected in 2022 and may now release in 2023 instead. We don't have many details other than it's being headed by some MMO veterans and is a separate AAA project according to CDPR.
For people asking, it's actually old news that it'll be free (sorry couldn't find the original interview), but I guess they could change their minds over the next 2 years, and the way they worded it makes it sound like you will also be able to buy it as a standalone, but we don't know for sure. Plenty of journalists have confirmed this. (random example).
--Reviews?--
CDPR again tightlipped here, and a foreign journalist has stated they're not allowed to say if they got review copies or when, but take that with a grain of salt. CDPR said we'll have reviews before release though, and trust me - those sites will definitely let you know when they arrive.
My guess is next week, on the 7th.
--Rapidfire Answers for the Questions You Keep Asking--
Not sure if I forgot anything but feel free to ask and I'm sure me or someone else will answer, and I'll add it if it's worthwhile.
Hopefully this will cut down a bit on repeat questions as we ramp up toward release and more and more newer folk join us.
All right folks, I'm off to bed, but I'll read any more suggestions/corrections you have when I wake up and try to answer whatever questions I can.

2020.11.29 08:48 lazigi Rising Storm 2: Vietnam Mouse lag fix

===ENG===
Good day. The other day we were distributing the game Rising Storm 2: Vietnam at Epic Games and decided to play this game, as there were a lot of positive emotions from Rising Storm: Red Orchestra 2.
And here's the bad luck when moving the cursor, the frame counter dropped to zero. I was shocked, because the computer is not the weakest, but the FPS is down to zero; the characteristics are shown below. After reading articles on the Internet, I realized that from the conspiracy theory to aliens, everyone in the district is trying to harm the poor RS2: Vietnam, but I caught one essence - the essence in the Mouse and its drivers.
After conducting my own investigation, I realized that the old mice will return to fashion, only because of RS2: Vietnam and because of their DEVELOPERS.
Mice that can work (The list is small, well, excuse me, I don't have many mice in the house):
===RUS===

2020.11.29 03:22 icropdustthemedroom CVIMCU RN here & author of this subreddit's sidebar megapost. Very proud of this new BRAIN SHEET I've made and thought I would share it all with you here for FREE! Also making a "the best nursing school supplement on the internet" YouTube channel for FREE and accepting video ideas!!

Hey all. I am the author of one of this subreddit's mega posts in the sidebar SEE HERE which helped hundreds of you previously, and I'm back to share something else that I hope many will find useful!
I'm now an RN BSN with 1.5 years' experience on a Cardiac Intermediate Care Unit at a Level 1 trauma teaching hospital, and I've been working on the perfect brain sheet for myself ever since I became an RN. This below is the real brain sheet I use daily at work and love, and I thought I'd share what I've come up with with you all for free! I see not just cardiac patients, but patients of all kinds and acuities, so I'd think this brain sheet would be useful on nearly any hospital unit (probably even pediatrics though I don't see peds).
GOOGLE DRIVE LINK TO THE PDF HERE.
Before I explain my brain sheet below and how I use it, I also wanted to announce I'm also making a YouTube channel!! I know there are many nursing-related YouTube channels out there...My goal is to make one that is the VERY BEST NURSING SCHOOL SUPPLEMENT on the internet. I will do my very best, for FREE, to teach you everything you ever wished you were getting out of nursing school but maybe aren't. It'll be similar to my megapost linked above in terms of quality content and real-world nursing tips, but much more.
I'll focus on things like: getting into nursing school, paying for nursing school (budgeting, fin aid tips, long-term considerations, and traps to avoid), how to land the best clinical placements in nursing school, thriving in clinical (real, tangible, actionable tips & tools, like this brain sheet!), best side jobs while in nursing school, Pharmacology (all the reliable and MOST USEFUL Pharm content you could ever want to know) and memorization tricks, NCLEX prep to rival some of the best NCLEX prep content out there (but for free!), skills review, specialty routes and how to pick, interviewing for RN jobs (choosing jobs to apply for, warning signs for jobs, the questions they'll ask in interview, how to respond, and what you should ask them), what new grad nurse orientation is like, devices you'll see in the hospital and how to use them, surviving your first year and thriving at it (real, practical tips), certifications (why/when to get them & how), intro to critical care nursing (enough to significantly prepare you if you go on to the ICU), unions, travel nursing resources and considerations, advanced practice routes, and more! Nothing in my YouTube channel will be content that I wouldn't be interested myself in watching even now for review as a working RN...I'm not going to be focusing on me or my life or "nurse lifestyle." I'm going to be focusing on content that to the best of my ability would be useful to ALL of you, and would rival the best nursing programs out there. In my past life I was also an HR Generalist & Manager for 2+ years and did about 1000 interviews on job applicants in that time, so I can help greatly with your job application prep. :) I ALSO WELCOME VIDEO / CHANNEL SUGGESTIONS AND IDEAS in the comments below! I'm starting filming soon.
Now back to this brain sheet... A quick walkthru of how I use the PDF each shift/work week, line-by-line to maximize your use (if you're interested in reading this part in detail): First of all, I typically work 3 nights in a row each week, and I use a multi-colored pen like these. On night 1, I write in black ink. When I come back the next night, for any updates on the patient I get, I write in a different color (e.g. write in blue for night 2 updates I get, write in green for night 3 updates). I typically use red only for things that I need to do urgently after receiving report. I print off 2 of these brain sheets on my night 1, because even though I only ever get a max 1:4 ratio, sometimes I'll get discharges/admits.
Line 1: Each night I write the name of my "buddy" RN, the other RN I'm paired with for the night. This is the person I handoff to when I go on lunch and vice versa, and the person I call first when I need another RN's help.
Line 2: The "Full Lookup Done" thing is for confirming I've FULLY looked up everything I need to know in the Electronic Health Record. I do this FULLY, and have a set list of things I look up for each patient at least on my Night 1. That list is for another post, but once I've done this for a patient and written down what I need to I check that box. I typically don't dig so much in the EHR on nights 2 and 3 because I typically know the patients pretty well by then.
Line 3: I write down my assigned CNA for this pt / room.
Line 4: Pt age/sex
Line 5: Code status. THIS IS BOLDED, IN WHITE TEXT AND BLACK HIGHLIGHT because I want to be sure to let anyone know of this info if I hand off this patient to them (like on my lunch). Same goes for every other box on the brain sheet: if it's a section that's BOLDED, WITH WHITE TEXT AND BLACK HIGHLIGHT, it means it's typically critical info to tell others if you're handing off the patient to them (e.g. CODE status, COVID status, primary diagnosis/why they're here, recent vitals, calls appropriately... etc.). Rows/boxes that are shaded fully grey are typically less-critical info...things that are less important (usually) to focus on to make sure your patient doesn't have a terrible outcome or die on your shift. :/
Line 6: Allergies (notice it's in grey, meaning it's important enough to write down, but I've not yet had a patient have a life-threatening allergic reaction in 1.5 years of nursing, so it's probably not critical to tell this to my buddy on my lunch so it's in grey)
Line 7: Weight and BMI (typically the admit weight or weight on my night 1, also in grey/not critical).
Line 8: Team (critical because I want to know EXACTLY who to contact and HOW [what pager #] if my patient starts deteriorating fast), so it's white background and not greyed meaning "critical" but not as critical as, say, CODE or COVID status.
Line 9: COVID or other isolation status (again, it's a white row but with white text and black background for the text with a warning icon because this is some of the most critical info to communicate to others)
Line 10: Admit date (not critical)
Line 11: Primary Diagnosis... what is the MAIN REASON this patient is here? This is super-critical, as whatever they're here for, there's a pretty good chance it could happen again usually (e.g. is the pt post-STEMI?), and whatever they're here for has undoubtedly certain unique risks associated that you should be trying to identify and thinking about.
Line 12: Admit Hx: What has there whole trajectory been since admission? Yeah maybe they came in for STEMI, but then what happened? Did they go to ICU for a while? Why? Did any other problems arise? Did they require surgery? PCI? Imaging? Pressors? How long have they been out of ICU? Etc.... Critical info (which is why this row is white and not greyed-out), but usually not quite as critical as their primary diagnosis, and the whole trajectory might not be critical to communicate to your RN buddy when you go on break.
Line 13: Relevant PMH. Oftentimes you can find like 30+ items of past medical history for your patient. Look at all those things, and then look at your next 12 hours with the patient, and consider their primary diagnosis and admit history. Write down generally only the things that you think will / could likely affect the patient in their next 12-24 hours. E.g. it might not be relevant that they had their appendix removed in 2005. But if the patient has sleep apnea, is congested, and is receiving sedatives?...that's probably very relevant. You get the idea. Write down what's probably relevant to this admission.
Line 14: Vitals. Very critical but I typically only write down stuff that is non-WDL, meaning "not Within Defined Limits." I don't write down if my patient has been typically getting blood pressures in the 110s / 80s...but I would write down if they're hypotensive, febrile, tachycardic, etc., and the relevant notify parameters set by the providers.
Line 15: Neuro. I work nights. Bed alarms are king. I mostly want to know if the patient is alert, oriented, calls appropriately, needs a bed alarm. This is the super-critical stuff your buddy RN mostly only cares to know too, unless your patient is experiencing acute/new neuro changes. RASS / CAM / GCS scores are helpful for giving data to all this but the actual data scores aren't typically critical for your buddy to know when you're only going to be gone for an hour.
Line 16: Amb/Device/Muscle/Falls. How does your patient ambulate, if they do? Do they do it independently (if not, again, do they need a bed alarm?)? Do they use any devices (like a front-wheeled walker)? Are they weak? Do they have a history of falls? Do they have bedrest orders due to a recent procedure / incision (sometimes pts can't get up for like 6+ hours or else risk bleeding)? Critical info to give on handoff even just for your break to your buddy RN.
Line 17: Pain. Does your patient have any PRN meds available, and if so, what and at what dosage(s)? Where's the pain and why? Any concerns for them getting/becoming oversedated? Critical info even for your lunch break.
Line 18: Cardiovascular. What rhythm is your patient in, if you know, and are they on telemetry? Are they having any known perfusion issues (peripherally or centrally), and are there any things we're watching out for related to those? Are they having any signs/symptoms that their heart is becoming more irritable/more prone to dysrhythmias (e.g. increasing in PVCs, runs of VT, increasing QTc length)? This stuff is critical to tell, ANYTIME you give handoff, if it's known.
Line 19: Respiratory. Is your patient using/needing any respiratory devices (e.g. nasal cannula, mask, CPAP)? Are they on continuous pulse ox at bedside or remotely? Are they taking off their respiratory device without telling you and falling asleep / any need for continuous pulse ox (e.g. OSA pt that declines respiratory devices)? All of this is critical to tell, even for a brief handoff while on lunch.
Line 20: Diet. Can your patient eat anything if they call? Are they NPO at 0000? Is their a limit on how much more fluid they can have? Have they had really high or really low blood sugars that your buddy needs to know?
Line 21: Other GI. This is less-critical to tell your buddy in a brief handoff, except for maybe how the patient voids (e.g. BSC) if they call.
Line 22: GU. How are they voiding (e.g. urinal while in bed)? Are they having dangerously low UO ( < 0.5 mL / kg / hr), and if so is team aware? Are they having retention and need to be catheterized soon? All critical info.
Line 23: Skin. Do they need to be turned Q2 or sooner to prevent/heal any ulcers? When were they last turned? Possibly important for your buddy to know on your lunch, but less critical.
Line 24: Active wounds. Do they have an ulcer? A skin tear? A groin site that's been oozy that we're watching? Misc Devices means things like wound vacs, chest tubes, or other miscellaneous devices that, if knocked over or messed up can often hurt the patient pretty quickly.
Line 25: Drips. What do they have running now / soon, why, and at what rate(s)? Did you verify the concentration of the drip and rate? Is the bag going to run out soon?
Line 26: Labs. Not TYPICALLY critical for your buddy to know while you go on lunch break, BUT share it if it provides insight: "Frank has been having more PVCs this shift than usual, but I called the team and we think it may be because he has a K+ of 3.5 right now so I just gave him 40 mEQ of K+ 15 minutes ago so hopefully that will improve soon. Team wants to be paged if he starts having more than 10 PVCs a minute or becomes otherwise symptomatic."
Line 27: Pt-specific / family. Any patient characteristics or patient / family preferences that are critical for your buddy to know if they have to go in the room? E.g. "This patient is comfort care but the family has not yet fully come to terms with it so PLEASE don't directly or indirectly refer to death and dying if you go in the room."
Line 28: Hospital plan and discharge plan. Not CRITICAL for your buddy to know usually when you're going on lunch (which is why it's greyed out), but you should look at the doctor, RN, and Case Management notes and talk with your other RNs and Charge RN to try to figure this out!
Line 29: Risks. Now look at EVERYTHING above and ask yourself, "What are the greatest RISKS for this patient over the course of my shift? Falls? Hypoxia? Another STEMI?" etc. etc. THIS STEP IS CRITICAL, otherwise someday you will be caught off-guard. Every good nurse does this step each shift!!!
Line 30: Day 2 3 4 RN. This is just where I write down who I'm giving handoff to on Day 2 (i.e. at the end of my Night 1 shift), Day 3 (end of my Night 2 shift), and Day 4 (end of my Night 3 shift). At the start of each shift when receiving handoff, I ask the other RN "are you back tomorrow?" If they say yes, I write their name down for that next day so I remember the next morning that they had this patient and don't need to hear EVERYTHING again, they only want to hear the updates.
Line 31: Gave Handoff. I just use a checkmark here at the end of every shift to absolutely confirm I gave handoff at the end of the shift. Your brain can play tricks on you at the end of a long 12-hour shift!
Backside / Page 2: This is a stripped-down version of page 1. This is just for RECEIVING BRIEF HANDOFF from my buddy RN when THEY go on lunch, during which time I will briefly have 8 patients (their 4 and my 4). These are the absolute need-to-know things I make sure I always know about their patients. The first table is for my Night 1 receiving my handoff from my buddy. The duplicate tables below that are for my Night 2 and Night 3, in case I have a different buddy with different patients (or if I have the same buddy but with some different patients due to admits / discharges).
And that's it!
I love this brain sheet because it makes life easy for me in a number of ways: 1) I know what to ask about when receiving report (I especially look for boxes for the patient that have no text in them yet), 2) it helps me with what to look up for my patients in the EHR and do it more quickly, 3) it helps me give a fast handoff by giving only the critical info when I'm going on break, 4) it helps me RECEIVE a FAST handoff by using page 2 on the back to get only the critical info on my buddy's patients when my BUDDY is going on break, 5) it helps me not to forget to give handoffs on all my patients when leaving after a long shift (nurses have done this! forgetting to give handoff on 1+ patients!) :/, and 6) it helps me give a SUPER thorough, system-by-system handoff when I am leaving a shift, knowing that I am giving a very organized and thoughtful handoff without forgetting anything. This system-by-system approach is also great practice for ICU if you ever intend on working in one as that's what they do up there! Using color-coding for your day 1, day 2 updates, day 3 updates takes this all to a whole new level, at least for me.
Anyway, hope this helps you all. I know my brain sheet might not be for everyone, but I would guess many here would like it and I put so much work into this that I couldn't not share -- and I welcome any suggestions or ideas for the YouTube channel! Thank you!

2020.11.29 03:21 throwRA_ccobsessed My (26F) LDR boyfriend (23M) won’t stop obsessing over Chris Chan

Sorry in advance for any typos, I’m writing this on mobile.
I have been talking to my boyfriend for 6 months but we’ve been officially dating for almost 2. We text and video chat just about every day. This hasn’t become an issue until only recently and I’m starting to become more concerned with his interest in this person.
It started out a couple of weeks ago where he told me about how he started watching a YouTube documentary series about someone named Chris Chan. I asked about the videos and he told me the episodes were about an hour or so long and there were at the time 44 of them (there have since been more added). He was on like episode 6 when he started talking about it with me, and he is currently caught up with all of these videos.
It started slowly and he would start talking about what happened in the documentary episodes he watched recently when we would video chat at night. At first I didn’t mind when he brought it up, and was trying to show interest and support him as he was excited to talk about it with me. He would watch multiple videos a day, because I’d ask him which one he was on when we talked and it was generally a lot further than the last.
This started progressing and happening more frequently. It came up every single time we would video chat (without me asking about it) and he would send me links to articles or memes about her throughout the day. We play PlayStation together sometimes and I could even hear him listening to the documentary episodes in the background as we played together. Once he was caught up with the one series, he played others at random to listen to conspiracy theories revolving around Chris Chan and her beliefs. Since then he’s been talking about the merge???
Within the last week he has started to speak like Chris Chan during normal conversations when we’re video chatting or playing PlayStation together. He’s even doing this around other people that we play with, and I’m not sure they even understand it. That part gets kind of embarrassing but I’ll just try to ignore it when it happens. He’ll say quotes in her voice and call me his “heart sweet”, or joke that he’s lucky he found a “boyfriend free girl”. He’s also lightheartedly made comments about becoming official trolls, and I usually just laugh it off, but I think he’s being serious.
He brought up how he wanted a medallion for Christmas. It was the one thing he absolutely wanted. He tried to show me her ebay and etsy page to show me what he’s talking about but it looks like they’re both taken down currently. He was really upset about this and ended the call that night because he was so frustrated about it and said he needed time to himself to process. I’m having a hard time trying to be empathetic about this because it all just confuses me.
What really put the nail in the coffin for me was yesterday when he proposed us meeting up and taking a vacation somewhere which seemed random. After some questioning he admitted it’s the town she lives in.
Whenever I try to talk to him about this and suggest that maybe he’s gone a little too deep into this, he gets really defensive and says I should be more supportive of his interests. I’m trying to be, but I feel like there should be a line and that he’s crossing it.
I’m not really sure how to process all of this, or what else to do. He wasn’t like this when we first started talking, or even when he visited me last. I just want my boyfriend back. I’ve opened up to him more than I have with anyone else and other than this recent issue, we have a really great connection. I don’t want to let something like this destroy our relationship. Since we are long distance, we generally have really good communication but this is something I’m at a loss for how to approach.
How do I talk to my boyfriend about this? What can I do? I don't want to breakup with him.
TLDR; My boyfriend is gaining an unhealthy obsession with an internet entity, Chris Chan, and he gets defensive when I try to talk to him about it.

2020.11.29 02:00 TylerbioRodriguez The disappearance of Anne Bonny, legendary female pirate from the Golden Age of Piracy. Perhaps solved after 300 years?

Anne Bonny was a female pirate from the Golden Age of Piracy. She is a name you will almost always find in just about any book on the subject, academic or otherwise. A lot has been said and a lot has been written about her. There are minor questions, such as when she was born or why she became a pirate. But the most famous question, is what happened to her? She vanished after a trial on November 28th, 1720, 300 years ago as of today. Well since May I have been searching for an answer and I might have actually figured it out. This story was published in the South Carolina Post and Courier today, and mostly draws from a 71 minute video I wrote for my YouTube channel. The video and article are here but I have written a broad summary of the video if you would like to read it. Sources are all listed at the end.
Video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KOiUgXyk0Fs)
Article (https://www.postandcourier.com/news/a-22-year-old-youtuber-may-have-solved-anne-bonny-pirate-mystery-300-years-aftearticle_78fc0a2e-2914-11eb-a5f5-03b65f4d281a.html)

Anne Bonny was a violent lesbian sailor. Anne Bonny was a serial killer. Anne Bonny was a feminist hero. Anne Bonny was an inspirational LGBTQ icon. Anne Bonny was a mere child who didn't think her life through. Anne Bonny was a heroine of the people. All of these phrases have been said by someone. Historians, journalists, bloggers, all of these people saying something like this. None of this is true. She might be a famous icon of the Golden Age of Piracy, depicted in Black Flag, Black Sails, the Pirates of the Caribbean ride and so on, but she isn't a well understood figure of history. She was treated as more an oddity by contemporary writers, in the vain of a carnival barker saying come see the freaks. She is a prism to the past, a cipher. Everyone sees something in her that reflects what they believe. So what is the truth? Who was she and what happened to her?
Its a difficult question to answer. Documents are hard to find, mostly kept in libraries across the Americas and the West Indies. Most come in the form of newspapers and short articles, a proclamation from a governor here and there, and court transcripts. Anything written years later is already unreliable, and details that come from the 20th century onward is almost always nonsense.
The Golden Age of Piracy is difficult to define, everyone has a different opinion on when it began and ended. I picked the longest timeframe, 1650 to 1730. An era defined by Henry Morgan, Henry Every, William Kidd, Edward Thatch, and Bartholomew Roberts. In this time period of legendary criminals came a woman named Anne Bonny. Said to be from Ireland, bastard daughter of an attorney and a maid. She moved to the Carolinas, lived a life that included stabbing a maid and almost killing a rapist, before running away with a sailor to Nassau, the Pirate Republic. She falls in love with Jack Rackham, quartermaster for Charles Vane. Rackham seizes power, Anne runs away from her husband and they plunder ship after ship. Eventually Anne falls for a sailor who is really Mary Read, becoming close friends. The British navy eventually captures them, Rackham is hanged but the two women avoid the noose by way of pregnancy. Mary dies in prison but Anne is never seen again.
This is the story as told in Captain Charles Johnson's General History of the Pyrates. Who was Captain Charles Johnson? It was an alias, not his real name. Almost certainly taken from the playwright Charles Johnson, who wrote a play about pirate Henry Every. In the 1930s historians mostly agreed Johnson was Daniel Defoe, author of Robinson Crusoe. In the 1980s the general opinion changed to Nathaniel Mist, Defoes publisher. The popular suspect remains Mist, an opinion I agree with while fully admitting it could have been another writer under Mist. The mystery of who Captain Charles Johnson is cannot be solved beyond reasonable doubt, and its not the only problem with the book. Its full of claims without sources and when a source can be used to factcheck it, the facts don't add up. The book takes a true story and almost always twists it for more dramatic events or details almost certainly made up. Anne Bonny's story is the worst example, her chapter is mostly about her father's misunderstandings about silver spoons. It has quotes that were never said at her trial. It contradicts witness statements at the trial. In a book full of lies, Anne Bonny's chapter is perhaps the worst of the bunch.
So what is the truth? Well, Governor Woodes Rogers of the Bahamas first mentioned Anne in a proclamation recorded in the Boston Gazette. He said the pirate John Rackam, notice the spelling difference, stole a sloop called the William from the harbor. He did it with 14 people, 12 men and two women. He lists them as Ann Fulford, alias Bonny, and Mary Read. A key detail of Johnsons account is Mary dressing up as a man and not being discovered to be a woman until the trial. This makes it all very unlikely. There are some scattered papers of two female pirates on a sloop attacking fishing boats reported through September and October, no names are mentioned but we know who this is. The big document is the Tryials of John Rackam and other Pyrates. A pamphlet printed in Jamaica that functions like a transcript, its quite rare and very key to the story. The pamphlet mentions that they robbed several fishing boats, sloops and schooners until October 22 1720. On that day, Rackam was caught by the privateer Jonathan Barnet, who ironically had served as a pirate alongside Henry Jennings in 1715. He caught the pirate after a pathetically short battle and brought them to Jamaica. Rackam was hanged on the 18th. Anne and Mary faced the court and governor of Jamaica, Sir Nicholas Lawes, on November 28th in the court house of Spanish Town. Anne Bonny was called Ann Bonny, alias Bonn. There several witnesses were brought forward, captains of vessels they stole, and witnesses to there crimes. They described them as constantly swearing, giving powder to cannons, and boarding vessels with cutlass and pistols drawn. They even tried to kill a female witness at one point. They wore sailors regalia while plundering but dressed in womens clothing when off duty. They were called spinsters of New Providence, and they never said a word to save themselves at trial.
At the end they were condemned to death not far from Henry Morgan's favorite town, Port Royal. But before sentencing was done they claimed quick with child. Following a newspaper in 1721 that referenced the trial and some other scattered reports, they were never heard from again.
So who was Anne Bonny? Well I don't think she was Irish. The name Anne is an English surname, it was popular due to Queen Anne of Great Britains reign but also well known due to Anne Boleyn. The spelling of Anne or Ann also usually denoted social rank at the time. Bonny is a French English name, it comes from the word bon, meaning good. It was mostly associated with Lancashire County but popular in all of England. Those other names, Fulford and Bonn, were also found in England and not Ireland. Fulford was a popular surname in Staffordshire and Bonn is just a fancier spelling of the French word. Nobody at her trial made mention of an accent or red hair, hell she probably had brown hair if she was from England.
She is perhaps the same Ann Bonny who was baptized in St. Giles In the Fields Church in St Giles London in 1690. This Ann Bonny had several siblings and likely lived in St Giles, which was infamously a terrible place of poverty. St Giles was also close to the Tyburn Tree and Execution Dock, so its possibly if this is Anne Bonny, she might have witnessed William Kidds death in 1701.
Its possible if this is the same woman, that she moved to Nassau around 1716. 1716 saw a rise in prostitution in Nassau and if Anne was an adult woman without a husband on that island, odds are likely she was a sex worker. Mary Read was also likely a working girl. In 1720 Governor Rogers started trying to stamp out prostitution because of his stern religious beliefs. Around the same time he was doing this, was when Anne and Mary fled on the William. Perhaps this was the cause of her short piracy career.
Now as to what happened to Anne, well there are many theories. Perhaps she was executed after all, would contradict all the documents mentioning executions, so I doubt it. I doubt she escaped that would have been quite a public sensation. Many believe she escaped after her father paid for her release. This is false, the name often used for her father is William Cormac. This comes from the 1964 romance novel Mistress of the Seas by John Carlova. He made up almost everything, even stealing details from the movie Anne of the Indies, but somehow historians ended up quoting this. David Cordingly quoted it. Colin Woodard quoted it. Kate Williams quoted it. It might be what shows up on Anne's wikipedia page but its not true. We don't truly know who her parents were, I suspect they were probably just poor folk in England, nobody rich or powerful.
This begs the question, where did she go? Anne Bonny's fate is mysterious, Mary Read's isn't. Everyone agrees she died in 1721, but no document is ever shown. Sure some historians say there was a document, coming from a 1989 Clinton V Black book, but I couldn't find it on the internet. The library of Jamaica flat out sent me listings for a childrens book but not a document. I nearly gave up until I found a parish registry on a genealogy website. Mary Read died in April of 1721, the document mentions a Mary Read Pirate buried April 28th. It left me at a crossroads because I felt if there was no document for Mary, then maybe Anne died and nobody reported it. As a joke I typed in Anne's name to the genealogy site. By sheer luck I found a document listed as Ann Bonny, buried December 29th 1733, St Catherines Jamaica. Its the right area, St Catherines is where Spanish Town is. Its only 13 years after the trial, no family is listed and the spelling is without the phantom E Captain Charles Johnson added. There are other Ann Bonny's buried in Jamaica but all are from either 1710 or a far off date like 1790.
If this is her, then what likely happened is, the Governor took pity on her and let her go. There is a precedent, Mary Critchett, the only other female pirate convicted in the Golden Age, was never hanged and probably let go due to her gender. If let go, Anne probably went back to prostitution, no paper trail or taxes or owning a house. The child she had probably died or was taken, Jamaica was a rough place to live. Its what probably killed her, disease like yellow fever or tuberculosis. But she managed to outlive Governor Rogers, who died in 1732, and basically every notable pirate of the era. If she could read, maybe she even read her own legend be born with General History. Regardless, she is indeed a pirate legend, still going strong 300 years later and dare I say probably will remain popular in 300 more years.
She might be a legend now, but she was real once upon a time. She perhaps lived an unremarkable life after a remarkable two month time period. But its not what has been recorded, and it never will be. When the legend becomes fact, print the legend, so says a John Ford classic. Aye, a legend it may be and always be, but the truth can be learned if one looks hard enough. Buried treasure may not be real, but finding the real story behind a nearly mythical woman is nearly as sweet.

2020.11.29 02:00 TylerbioRodriguez The Legend of Anne Bonny, 300 years later. (Full essay, video and article)

Well here it is everyone. It started on May 30th and it ends today, the evening of the 28th, 300 years to the day Anne Bonny was tried for piracy and never seen again. I would thank everyone here but those who helped are featured in the credits of the video and this post. This subject was covered in an article today in the Post and Courier, and I intend to send this to several newspapers and eventually publish it in a historical journal. The video is 71 minutes long so this post is more or less a written summary of the entire project. All sources are listed at the end.

Marcus Rediker, Kate Williams, David Cordingly, reactionary bloggers, all of them.
It left me at a crossroads because I felt if there was no document for Mary, then maybe Anne died and nobody reported it. As a joke I typed in Anne's name to the genealogy site. 2020.11.28 21:40 b3ing0fsound Looking for recommendations for a HTPC/light-gaming/(GPU-accelerated analytics strongly optional) rig that is under US$ 1000

What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.
* It sounds cool to play something at 1080p @ ~60hz refresh rate, but 720p @ ~40-60hz is probably enough.
What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?
When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.
What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (ToweOS/monitokeyboard/mouse/etc)
Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?
If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.
Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?
Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)
Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-towefull-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?
Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?
Extra info or particulars:
I think that covers it. Thanks in advance for your help!

2020.11.28 20:42 ICutFundingNoRegrets Home Mini not accepting voice commands for music apps only.

NOTE: I posted this yesterday but it seems to have gotten lost, just trying to get a few more eyes on it. I won't post a third time, promise!
I've had a Home Mini for almost a year now and I love just being able to say out loud "Hey Google play ". It's simple, but it's by far my most used/favorite feature. Now, however, it's completely stopped working.
"Hey google, play my Daily Mix 1." "Okay, playing Daily Mix 1 on Spotify...sorry, I don't understand."
It acknowledges the command and then immediately says the same thing "Sorry, I don't/didn't understand."
This has extended to games (Akinator, song match) and also voice commands (stop music, volume up/down, what song is this) when I play spotify over bluetooth (e.g. playing on my computer and swapping the output to my google home mini).
I've power-cycled the Mini and Wi-Fi, I've unlinked and re-linked my spotify account, disconnected from Wi-fi and reconnected, basically everything but a factory reset. The same thing happens for YouTube music (which I don't have an account for), but every other function of the Home that I've tried (date/weather, phone calls, calculator, alarm, driving directions) works totally fine. I can also play music over the speaker by connecting via bluetooth. It just seems like the one function I used the most all of a sudden stopped working and every fix I've seen on the internet that people have said worked hasn't worked for me.
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Huge! Patrick Byrne, former CEO of Overstock.com just went public yesterday and revealed who was behind the sting operation to setup Hillary Clinton, Trump, Rubio and Cruz in 2016 -- Illegal surveillance and bribery blackmail operations. Patrick was approached by Peter Stzrok in 2015 to assist the FBI in setting up these candidates (he thought it was legit). He wrote about the Hillary Clinton sting on his website DeepCapture.com -- blog entry dated October 6, 2020.
Patrick now goes on to reveal many things in this radio show interview yesterday:

2020.11.28 17:28 Rsubs33 [Game Preview] Week 12 - Philadelphia Eagles(3-6-1) vs Seattle Seahawks (7-3)

Philadelphia Eagles (3-6-1) vs Seattle Seahawks(7-3)
Another week has passed and the Eagles notched another in the loss column, the saving grace now is after the Football Team won on Thanksgiving the Eagles are no longer kings of shit mountain. That title rests with Washington, though it could end up in the hands of the Giants by the team the Eagles kickoff on Monday night. Pathetically they could take that title back with a win over the Seahawks, though that appears to be unlikely. The Seahawks pack a potent offense led by All-Pro QB Russel Wilson who has made Jim Schwartz is bitch the past 4 years. What this Eagles team has in talent it completely lacks in discipline, heart and accountability which rests entirely on this coaching staff which repeatedly fails to get this team motivated and put them in the best position to win football games. Seattle has one of the worst defenses in the league especially against the pass, however I doubt Doug Pederson will come up with a game plan to exploit it, especially with Carson Wentz struggling to find any rhythm this season and leading the league in all the wrong categories. Both the coach and the QB will need to find some of that magic from the 2017 season if they have any hope of beating this tough Seahawks team Monday night.

Seahawks 17 – Eagles 9
The Eagles season ended with their first loss at home since Week 12 of the regular season, which was, coincidentally, also a 17–9 home loss to the Seahawks. They failed to score a touchdown for the first time since Week 17 of the 2017 season. Carson Wentz left the game in the first quarter with a concussion following a dirty hit by Jadeveon Clowney, where he led with the crown of his helmet into the back of Carson Wentz’s head when he was already going to the ground. No penalty was called on the play, and Wentz was later ruled out for the game. This was the Eagles' third straight home Wild Card playoff loss.

Stats to Know
Stat to Know: Bird is the Word
The average Bald Eagle's wingspan is considerably more than an Osprey's. The weight disparity between the two is even more pronounced, the male Bald Eagle doubling its counterpart's weight. So whereas Bald Eagles are known to harass Osprey nests and even steal Ospreys' food directly from them, this Philadelphia Eagles team is anything but average and is an embarrassment in the turnover department, currently third-to-last in turnover margin at -9, while the Seahawks are middle-of-the-pack at +1. A Bald Eagle is expected to be large, strong, agile, pesky, and majestic. The 2020 Philadelphia Eagles field 2 Cornerbacks 5'9 and under, they field undersized Linebackers and Safeties, and don't have a bruising Running Back to feature. They have been incapable of imposing their will on Offense or Defense. The only consistency shown in 2020 is in just how bad the team is, while still on top of the division. Some mornings I stare into the foggy mirror, with Lionel Richie's "Hello" playing on my Google speaker, and wonder what we've done to deserve this. Sad Eagles
Matchups to Watch
Russel Wilson vs. the Eagles Run Defense
This Eagles team has been woefully pathetic against the run this season, but even more so against opposing QBs who are not afraid to take off. Of the top 5 rushing performances against the Eagles defense this season 3 of them are QBs (Lamar Jackson and Daniel Jones 2x). Russell Wilson may turn 32 Sunday, but he is still a threat with his legs as he currently leads the Seahawks in rushing yards and is on pace for his second biggest rushing season in his career. Jim Schwartz has had zero answer the past 4 years against Russel Wilson and I don’t expect that to magically change on Monday. Schwartz best bet may be to spy Wilson with Rookie Davion Taylor, who has the athletic ability to keep up with Wilson, however Schwartz has failed to used spies on Wilson in the past, so if he makes a change in how it operates it will be a large evolution in his character which doesn’t seem realistic. I expect much of the same with Schwartz against Wilson on Monday, base Nickel defense with Cover-1 man and the corners playing 10 yards off to give easy outlets to Wilson.
A Moveable Object vs a Stoppable Force
If Philly wants to have any chance to win on Monday they are going to need to score points on the offensive side of the football, something they have failed to do regularly this season. Carson Wentz has been one of if not the worst QB in the NFL this season, at least the worst who hasn’t been benched yet. He has been a turn over machine and has been sacked the most in the NFL. But the offensive woes don’t lay solely at his feet, Doug Pederson has done Wentz no favors. Despite Wentz’s struggles Pederson has continued to lead on the QB, despite having one of the best running backs in the league who is averaging 5.7 yards per carry and has big play potential in Miles Sanders. It isn’t just that Pederson is abandoning the run, he is also calling a bland predictable offense which has failed to put his players in the best position to succeed. On the other side of the ball, the Seahawks have had issues stopping anyone this season, especially through the air where they rank dead last. They have given up an average of 343.7 yards per game. In recent weeks, they’ve been better in this area. They have given up over 300 passing yards just once in the last four games. If the Eagles have any shot to win Sunday, they need to win this matchup.
Carlos Dunlap vs Jordan Mailata
After Jason Peters gave up 3 sacks, 3 QB hits and 7 pressures in just 47 snaps before leaving the last game with an injury, he's thankfully moving to right guard somewhere he should have been after returning from the IR. This means Mailata will be back at LT where he was playing well before being benched for Peters return. He will face off against Carlos Dunlap who has 3 sacks in 3 games since joining the Seahawks. This is going to be the second time the Eagles faced Dunlap who in Week 3, had 4 pressures, 9 tackles, a QB hit, a TFL and a batted pass when facing Peters. If Mailata can play the way he was before he was wrongly benched by this inept coaching staff. Suring up Wentz’s backside should give him a little more confidence, something he has woefully lacked this season. This should be a good matchup against the young Mailata and the ageless vet in Dunlap.

2020.11.28 16:32 bigbear0083 Wall Street Week Ahead for the trading week beginning November 30th, 2020

Good Saturday morning to all of you here on smallstreetbets. I hope everyone on this sub made out pretty nicely in the market this past week, and is ready for the new trading week ahead.
Here is everything you need to know to get you ready for the trading week beginning November 30th, 2020.

Stocks on track to close out month of big gains as jobs data looms - (Source)

Stocks next week will come off one of their best months ever into a busy week of economic data and the ongoing tensions between the spreading virus and positive news on vaccines and treatments.
Another highlight of the week is expected to be Tuesday’s testimony from Fed Chairman Jerome Powell and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin before the Senate Banking Committee. They will be discussing the emergency measures taken to help the economy after the outbreak of the pandemic.
The Dow was up nearly 13% for November so far, and if it holds its gains into Monday’s close, it will chalk up its best month since January, 1987. The S&P 500 closed at a record 3,638 and was up 11.3% for the month. The gain is its best performance since April’s 12.7%, which was the third best month for the S&P 500 since its origin in 1957.
November was a big month also for market rotation, with investors favoring stocks that would benefit from a rebounding economy and showing less love for long-held favorites among big tech and internet names. Financials were up more than 17% in the past month, and industrials rose nearly 15%, as investors bet vaccines would help the economy return to normal next year.
Tech notched a single digit gain for the month so far and lagged the broader market. But some strategists expect big tech and internet names, stay-at-home stocks, to fare better in December.
“The death of big tech has been announced over and over again, and we see that the market doesn’t abandon them, but in fact migrates to big tech whenever there are concerns,” said Quincy Krosby, chief market strategist at Prudential Financial. “The post-pandemic question is whether big tech can co-exist with the small and mid-cap.” Small caps were one of the biggest winners in November, with the Russell 2000, up 20.6%.
“We did not see major selling in Nasdaq,” as investors put funds in cyclicals and value, she said. Nasdaq was up 11.9% for the month so far, slightly better than the S&P 500.
Experts have warned that there could an even bigger surge in virus cases, following the Thanksgiving holiday which could start to show up in the coming week. There have been more than 12.6 million cases in the U.S.

Jobs report

There are some important economic reports in the week ahead, the most important being Friday’s November employment report. There is is also ISM manufacturing data Tuesday.
“My thought here is the data is going to matter because if you listen to the Fed, and if you read through the Fed’s minutes, they’re in transition here. They’re becoming more concerned about the rise in Covid cases, certainly about the lack of fiscal support,” said Gregory Faranello, head of U.S. rates at AmeriVet Securities.
Strategists say another key report will be weekly jobless claims, which showed an increase in each of the last two weeks. “The employment data clearly has been weakening,” said Faranello. If it continues, it will keep a lid on Treasury yields, which move opposite prices.
Jefferies economist Tom Simons expects the elimination of Census Bureau workers to detract from the job gains in November, and he forecasts the economy added just 340,000 jobs.
“It is hard to envision a particularly strong report coming out on Friday,” noted Simons.
Bank of America economists forecast just 150,000 payrolls were added for November, compared to 638,000 in October. The private sector is expected to add 300,000, but expected government layoffs impacted total payrolls in their forecast.
Faranello said he expects the bond market to be much more active than normal this December because of the pending change in the White House, as well as the runoff election in Georgia Jan. 5 that will decide whether Republicans keep their Senate majority. The market has also been concerned about the lack of stimulus from Washington.
“The theme in the market right now is definitely hope and optimism versus the on the ground dynamic with Covid,” said Faranello. “The real question is can the vaccine rally hold up if we see the virus rise and we continue to see shutdowns. How does the market perform in light of that?”
Krosby said she expects the market to watch for vaccine news. “The question I think is now whether or not we see the emergency authorization given to Pfizer and followed by Moderna,” she said. “I think that is a catalyst to the market because that is when you will start to see the vaccine distributed.” The Food and Drug Administration’s vaccine advisory committee has a meeting set for Dec. 10 to discuss emergency authorization for the Pfizer
Analysts expect investors to continue to gravitate to value and cyclicals, since they could have the biggest gains compared to already high priced big tech. But tech is still attractive.
“We still see the Nasdaq leading,” said Krosby. “Whereas we enjoyed the vaccine related boom in the market, the fact is that investors and and traders are looking for big tech names to give them that growth in earnings and revenues.”

December Almanac: Small Caps Have Shined

December is now the number three S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrials month since 1950, averaging gains of 1.5% on each index. It’s the top Russell 2000 (1979) month and third best for NASDAQ (1971) and Russell 1000 (1979). In 2018, DJIA suffered its worst December performance since 1931 and its fourth worst December going all the way back to 1901. However, the market rarely falls precipitously in December and a repeat of 2018 is not highly likely. When December is down it is usually a turning point in the market—near a top or bottom. If the market has experienced fantastic gains leading up to December, stocks can pullback in the first half of the month.
In the last seventeen election years, December’s ranking changed modestly to #2 DJIA, #5 NASDAQ, but S&P 500 remains #3. Small caps, measured by the Russell 2000, have had a field day in election-year Decembers. Since 1980, the Russell 2000 has lost ground just once in ten election years in December. The average small cap gain in all ten years is a solid 3.0%. The Russell 2000’s single loss was in 1980 when the Prime Rate was 21.5%.

Sector Weights Rising and Falling

For most of the past year, one significant trend on a sector by sector basis has been the outperformance of sectors like Technology and Consumer Discretionary. The relative strength lines of these sectors have consistently shown outperformance versus the rest of the S&P 500 as a whole, but since August, other sectors have begun to take the wheel. As we noted in today's Sector Snapshot, just about every sector has had a banner month in November with some of the biggest month to date rallies of the past 30 years, but some sectors have seen much larger returns than others. One of the best examples of this has been Energy which has risen over 35% in November. Similarly, Financials has risen an astounding 19.5% this month compared to more modest but still significant rallies of around 10% from Tech and Consumer Discretionary. Given those large degrees of outperformance, the relative strength lines of Energy and Financials have taken a sharp turn higher in recent weeks. Similarly, they have seen a turnaround in their weightings in the S&P 500 as shown in the charts below.
Over the past three months, the Financial sector has gained a full percentage point weighting while the Technology sector has lost 1.36 percentage points with a decline in weighting in three straight months. For Financials, that is the largest gain in weighting in a three month span since January 2017. For Tech, outside of the reshuffling in 2018 that saw a large share of its weight change into Communication Services, the last time the sector lost this much or more in weighting in three months was November of 2008. Prior to this recent string of losing weight over the past three months, Tech had seen weight gain in every month from October of last year through August. Even though the weight loss has been significant, it has only put a dent in the increased share of the entirety of the past year as the sector's weight is only back down to where it was in May.
Similarly, looking at the other sectors, while Financials have added a full percentage point in share over the past few months, that follows nine months of declines running from last December through August. That brings the sector's weighting back above 10% in the S&P 500, but that is only at the highest level since March. Similarly, Materials and Industrials have also seen their weights rise for three and four months in a row, respectively. As for Energy, the 0.44 percentage point gain in November is set to snap six straight months of declines; the longest such streak since at least 1990. As with Financials, that turn around this month has only put a dent in the longer term trend of weight loss as Energy's weighting is now only back to its highest level since July. Opposite of Energy, Consumer Discretionary is on pace to lose weight for the first time since March.

A Month to Be Thankful For

Heading into today with just three trading days left in November, the average Russell 1,000 stock was up 17.44% month to date. As shown below, not one of the five largest stocks is up even close to 17% on the month. For a market that had recently been driven higher in large part because of the five mega-cap Tech names, November has seen the mega-caps stall a bit while the rest of the market has seen broad participation. This is the type of breadth that market bulls have been waiting and hoping for.
Of the 35 largest stocks in the Russell 1,000, Tesla (TSLA) is up the most so far this month with a gain of 43%. The other big winners include Chevron (CVX), JP Morgan (JPM), Bank of America (BAC), Disney (DIS), and Comcast (CMCSA). Not one stock in the top 35 is down on the month, but the ones that are up the least are Netflix (NFLX), Procter & Gamble (PG), Amazon (AMZN), and Home Depot (HD).
Looking at sectors, the average Energy stock in the Russell 1,000 is up 46% month-to-date but still down 27% year-to-date. Three other sectors have seen their stocks average MTD gains of more than 20%: Financials, Industrials, and Real Estate. Stocks in the Health Care and Utilities sectors are up the least on an average basis this month, but even these underperformers are still up more than 5%.
There are 37 stocks in the Russell 1,000 up more than 50% so far in November. Below is a list of this month's biggest winners. Coty (COTY) and Nordstrom (JWN) stand out the most with gains of more than 100%, followed by Spirit AeroSystems (SPR), Occidental Petroleum (OXY), Diamondback Energy (FANG), and Empire State Realty (ESRT). The list of biggest winners this month is full of names that got hit hardest by COVID in areas like energy, travel, retail, and real estate. Notably, while these stocks are up an average of 68.5% in November, they're still down an average of 23% on the year. On a median basis, they're down even more year-to-date at -31.55%.

Biden - Best Since Reagan

The market started off November on a positive note, and even after the election has continued to add to its gains. Through the close today (11/24), the S&P 500 is up 7.90% since the close on Election Day. Relative to every other Presidential election since the beginning of the S&P back in 1928, the three-week performance of the S&P 500 following this Election Day ranks as the second-best of all time. It came down right to the wire, but the only other US President to see a stronger market reaction to their election (or re-election) was Ronald Reagan in 1980 (7.97%). Behind Reagan and Biden, the only other Presidents where the S&P 500 experienced an upside move of 5%+ in reaction to their elections were Hoover in 1928 and Clinton in 1996.
On the downside, the most negative reaction of the market in the three weeks after Election Day was the 14.75% decline following President Obama's election in 2008. In addition to Obama, the S&P 500's four other three-week downside moves of more than 5% came after the elections of Truman in 1948, the election of George W Bush in 2000 (although at the time it was unknown who was the winner of that election), the election of Franklin D Roosevelt in 1932, and Dwight D Eisenhower's re-election in 1956.
In aggregate, the S&P 500 hasn't historically responded all that great in the three weeks after a Presidential election. For every one since 1928, the median return of the S&P 500 in the three weeks after Election Day has been a gain of just 0.35%. Breaking out returns by party, in the three weeks after a Democratic candidate is elected, the S&P 500's median performance is a decline of 1.11% compared to a median gain of 3.04% when a Republican is elected.

DJIA 1,000 Point Thresholds

What a wild year 2020 has been! With the DJIA closing above 30,000 today, it was the second first-time upside break of a 1,000 point threshold this year. While there have only been two new upside crosses of 1,000 point thresholds, due to the sharp pullback in March from the pandemic that briefly took the DJIA below 19,000 on a closing basis, there have actually been 12 different upside 1,000 point thresholds at some point in the year.
The table below lists the first time that the DJIA closed above each 1,000 point threshold in its history along with the total number of times the index has crossed that level on a closing basis throughout history. The thousand point level that has seen the most crosses on a closing basis was 11,000 (87 crosses) while 10,000 ranks second at 67.
Obviously, the higher the DJIA goes, the less impactful a move of 1,000 points becomes. At current levels, 1,000 points represents just 3.3%, which is really nothing more than a very bad day in the market. Given the diminishing impact of 1,000 points in the DJIA these days, their significance declines. Even still, the twelve new 1,000-point crosses since the 2016 election has given the President (who has publicly discussed the stock market more than any other President in history) plenty of ammunition to tweet about.

30,000 Reasons To Be Thankful

As 2020 winds down, it has been an extremely tough year on all of us. Still, there are many reasons to be thankful and today we will share some reasons investors should be thankful.
Stocks have had one of the largest reversals ever in 2020, something to be thankful for. In fact, this could be the first year ever to see the S&P 500 down more than 30% peak-to-trough and finish higher.
We should also be thankful that Congress was split in 2020, likely marking the 11th consecutive year the S&P 500 gained under a split Congress. Gridlock is good they tell us and that very well could be true yet again.
Want something else to be thankful for? We likely will have a split Congress for another two years after the two Georgia runoffs are official.
Let’s be thankful that it is looking like stocks once again will be higher the year a President is up for re-election. In fact, you have to go back to FDR in the ‘40s the last time the S&P 500 was lower for the year when a President was up for re-election.
Let’s be thankful that the fastest bear market in history (only 16 days) is officially a thing of the past.
We are thankful that we are in a new bull market, which if history plays out once again, could have a lot of life left to it. In fact, the average bull market has lasted more than five years.
“Let’s be thankful that the huge move off the March lows was a major clue of more strength,” explained LPL Financial Chief Market Strategist Ryan Detrick. “We noted at the time (many different ways) that the enormous move we saw off the March lows likely suggested significantly higher prices, while many ignored the market signals and instead looked for a re-test for months on end.”
The 20-days off the March lows was the second best 20-day rally ever and sure enough, the returns have been very strong.
We are finally seeing many stocks participate in this bull market, another reason to be thankful. In fact, the Value Line Arithmetic Index recently made new all-time highs. This index is a great look at what the ‘average’ stock is doing and is a sign that this move isn’t being led by just a few large cap tech stocks.
Let’s be thankful that the NYSE Cumulative Advance/Decline line is at new highs. This looks at how many stocks are going up versus down and new highs are a sign of very healthy participation.
Emerging markets have started to turn higher and we are thankful that this group could be on the verge of a major breakout to new highs, clearing their peak from 2007. As we move into ’21, this is one group we think could continue to do quite well for investors.
Global investors should be thankful, as the MSCI Global Index broke out to new highs as well, suggesting this rally isn’t only about the US anymore.
We upgraded our view on small caps in September and the Russell 2000 Index is currently on pace to have its best monthly return ever. Investors should be thankful that this group is finally participating, as there are many more small caps than large caps, another sign of improving breadth, while small caps are also more domestic by nature and could be suggesting a strong US economy next year.
Investors should be thankful for the incredible strength around the election, as the S&P 500 gained more than 1% four consecutive days. This is extremely rare, yet, extremely bullish going out a year.
As we showed in Frothy Sentiment Rides Bullish Technicals, the huge number of stocks in the S&P 500 making new monthly highs should make bulls quite thankful.
Earnings are expected to see a major bounce back, as the global economy gets back online next year, making many investors quite thankful.
Economic forecasts may not develop as predicted.
As shown in the LPL Chart of the Day, the final reason to be thankful? Dow at 30,000!

2020.11.28 16:24 bigbear0083 Wall Street Week Ahead for the trading week beginning November 30th, 2020

Good Saturday morning to all of you here on StockMarket.

2020.11.28 09:47 Grapefruitsushi1 My (F28) recent graduate partner (M25) is not willing to get a job

Me and my bf have been dating for 3years. I need some help deciding whether I should leave him or stay in this relationship.
When we have been dating for about a year my partner was working as a retail manager about to quit his job. I suggested him to go back to uni to finish his art degree while getting a house loan so we could live together.
House loan sounds like a big deal but I’m living in a country where a long-term housing rent with a deposit is possible. You get the deposit back when the contract is over so it is the best way to rent a house here for someone who doesn’t own one.
Anyway when he was still working I asked him to get this deposit loan which offers the lowest interest in the market. I own a small business so I wasn’t able to apply for this loan but I’ve covered remaining cost of the house and half of the interest. The condition of the loan is being employed when the contract renews and we have about 5months left.
It’s hard to get a job these days so I asked my partner whether he can start looking for a full time job or work at least for 2months around the time when the contract renews. He said he will because he needs to get a job anyway. So I helped him look for available jobs on internet etc but he hasn’t looked at single one of them.
The problem is after a month later he said he is going to apply for a masters degree while looking for a job. I said okay that is completely fine as long as he lets me know about his plans. Then few weeks later he says he wants to become a tattooist which he took off a year ago (he completed a short course). Then another week later he wants to pursue interior career and started studying for a certificate license.
Now he tells me he’s not going to get a job even for a month because he doesn’t want to waste time on a job he doesn’t want. But instead he wants to create an app related to art investments.
I understand sometimes there are multiple things you want to do or times when you can’t make up your mind. But the things he mentioned are all so out of the blue. I am not saying it’s impossible to achieve I’m saying it will take a lot of time and efforts to make it happen. So if I see him actually trying or if he is really serious about it I would support him 100%. But I have never seen him doing anything he says. He buys bunch of things like tattoo inks or interior books etc but I never see him spending time doing it. I said he is a recent graduate but most of his classes were done months ago so he has been just staying home watching youtube and netlix.
We had a talk about it again because his savings are getting low. But he still doesn’t want to get a job and he is willing to give up the current loan and get a loan with double the interest instead. He keeps saying I worry too much, everything is going to be fine and we can move in to a smaller house if things don’t work out etc. I mean I don’t think I can force him to do anything he doesn’t want to do. He is still young and he can choose his own life.
What worries me is will it be okay to invest my future in him. He is happy go lucky kind of a person with unrealistic thinking. He is quite bad with money and doesn’t know how to save money. He got scammed two times one small another not so small $1000 USD. But he doesn’t depend on me money wise he still pays half of the bills. I want to plan a future with him but I can’t. Sometimes I feel like I am parenting him.
And the money does get in a way a bit because if I leave him now I won’t be able to get the money I invested on the house at least until the house contract is over. so i’ll probably still have to live with him until then.
If I really must I can move out and get my own place and get the money later. But I’m from oversea I don’t have that many friends and family here so I guess I am quite scared to live on my own.
I don’t know whether I should wait for him to settle or leave. Sometimes I feel like I am sure he is not the one then suddenly I also feel like I am the one with a problem because I am thinking pessimistic about our future all the time.
